It is with a heavy heart that I write this about Dr. Thomashefsky. Why? Because he is no longer…read morepracticing medicine. And as a patient of almost 30 years, I miss him and his amazing services deeply. He helped me in life-altering ways, changing the quality of life by essentially erasing significantly disabling lower back pain that dogged me most of my life. His treatment protocol involved only a few appointments for prolotherapy injections, and the results were almost magical. What success! What a great doctor! He brought profound and long-lasting pain relief for arthritis in my thumbs, this time with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections. They worked perfectly, with no side effects, leaving only the disappearance of pain and inflammation in their wake. A few things I learned about Dr. Thomashefsky in the 30+ years he treated me... First, he cares deeply about his patients and is willing to do almost anything for them. For example, in the mid-1980s, Dr. Thomashefsky was one of the first doctors in Santa Barbara who recognized, and treated, the diseases called 'Chronic Fatigue Syndrome' and 'Fibromyalgia'. He was the only doctor in Santa Barbara who took the time to not only learn about them, but to become by far the best doctor in Santa Barbara county do it, and patients flocked to him from everywhere, not only to see him in his practice but to also attend his free CFS and Fibromyalgia support groups. He was masterful, offering loads of support to very sick people, all at no charge. If you lived on the Central Coast and you had one of those diseases, Dr. Thomashefsky was your guy. Dr. Thomashefsky has a love for athletics, competition, and physical performance, and I assume that this is the reason why he began to focus more and more over the years on sports medicine. This is not surprising if you consider that Dr. Thomashefsky is a physical specimen himself; he's completed THREE Ironman Triathalons. To just to qualify is amazing in itself, but to finish three times, well, that takes a special person with almost limitless motivation. And a special kind of heart. And that's what Dr. Thomashefsky brought--an extraordinary motivation to solve his patients' health problems--and a lot of heart. He's was a special kind of doctor who deeply listens to his patients, a doctor who would always go the full ten yards for his patients, and all of his patients admired and respected Dr. Thomashefsky, and he loved and respected them deeply. Santa Barbara was lucky to have him.
