After spending a fun afternoon at Cambridge Kin Carnival at Riverside Park a couple of Saturdays…read moreago, I needed to get some grocery shopping done. In Cambridge, I typically hit a Zehrs. I enjoy shopping at this chain, mainly because you don't see it in the GTA. Heading to the park, I passed by this Farm Boy. I decided that I'd shop here afterwards, as I hadn't visited any Farm Boy for a while. My closest ones are Pickering and Richmond Hill. Markham needs one! I knew that I'd love this particular store. There was a lot of parking in a plaza. I parked fairly close to the main entrance and walked over. Bags of popcorn were by the automatic doors. It was almost as if this store knew me well. I then saw bags of baby spinach. I needed some and they were discounted. Perfect! The produce was fresh and gorgeous. I needed string beans and they looked impeccable. I also stood in front of an impressive mushroom display. The varieties were amazing. I missed seeing Mikey the monkey swinging away. I'm not sure how. I guess the produce off to the side was a distraction. I'll need to find him when I'm back at the store. I meandered over to the meat section. I needed chicken thighs and got some. The meat section was nicely organized and everything was nicely chilled. I needed coconut cream. I like the cans of coconut milk and cream from Farm Boy. The quality is excellent for my cooking needs. After getting what I was looking for, I checked out everything else. It was a delightful exploration of products that I haven't seen before. I have yet to try halloumi. I saw packages of them for the first time. They were chilling on ice. They looked fancy! The roasted garlic and herb mayo caught my attention. Once I'm done with my current jar of mayo, I will need to try Farm Boy's version to see whether I fall in love with it. The beer section at Farm Boy is always eye-opening to me. It still brings me joy to see alcohol at a grocery store, even though it has been there for years now. The craft IPA beers are cool, especially seeing the Octopus wants to fight IPA. It cracked me up that I'm sure folks were wondering why I was laughing. This store was fairly quiet compared to other Farm Boy stores that I have been to on a Saturday afternoon. I dig it. It was an enjoyable, stress-free shopping experience. I had a nice woman help me at the cashout area. I had brought a reusable bag, so I packed everything into it. You can also buy some that are branded. I paid with a debit card. The transaction was easy. I thanked her and left. I only had a handful of items. I ended up carrying them around in the store. You can get a cart or a basket. I simply didn't need one. This store was awesome. I will return to see Mikey and get more groceries when I'm back in Cambridge. (199)

Gibson's No Frills - Bait customers in with beef on sale that is never stocked

The beef round was…read moreon sale, so I run in on the first day of sale so I send someone from my house to get it, the come back home empty handed (after driving, dressing up for the cold) . I asked where's the beef? None in stock. Where's your rain check, So they run back in to get a rain check- no rain check issues because it's a limited stock item. So I went in again on Tuesday to see if it's in stock, that's two days before the new flyer comes, still no stock. So I asked around and they tell me "maybe." Well someone has basically travelled three times to this location and the limited stock item seems like they just had one in stock to validate advertising the item on sale BECAUSE ITS NEVER IN STOCK. I did tell one of the nice employees, this is unfair; I am just one person what about the family of four travelling with babies all to do a run in because no daycare on weekends going through all the effort to buy this on sale protein only to find out it's just a bait to get a customer in to buy a regular item on sale. This is the same as the sticker promo that ran from 2024 to Feb 2025, where every purchase of $20 got you one sticker and a full sheet got you a steep discount on pots and pans- but when trying to redeem no store had it in stock. I remember that promo, I went all the way to Collingwood checking for it in stock. Gibson, you gotta stop baiting customers in with items that will never be in stock, gas is an all time high, inflationary costs are high that it's just cool to play these "games." Anyone else manage to get the on sale beef in your city?

(So much for plans for Thanksgiving dinner.) The store manager apologized, sort of, and promised to do practically nothing about a loyal customer being assaulted by his employee. We are seniors. My partner, who is a very tough woman, was chased around, accosted in her face by a non-distanced man (not a kid), yelled at and followed when she tried to walk away. She was pretty shaken. The manager promised he would report to the union, who would do practically nothing. He offered us exactly zero, in even assurances we wouldn't be assaulted again if we came back. Just a smirk and an acknowledgement that we probably won't come back to the store. (We have done almost all our grocery shopping there since the pandemic started.) I'm thinking there are a lot of places that appreciate loyal customers. This sure enough isn't one. The manager was smiling when he told us there were things (union process) more important than protecting the safety of customers. Says here, if a customer has been accosted and is frightened by an employee, and the manager says anything other than that this is completely unacceptable and will never happen again, it's the wrong answer. This manager gave a *very* wrong answer.

We went to this location in order to purchase small sample size cups for an event. Their cup supplies were not very well organized and it took some time to find it. We went through the grocery section and noticed that the prices are basically grocery store prices. There is no wholesale. If someone was looking for much larger sizes of things for a restaurant, they could certainly find it there. However, I found it expensive they have fresh produce which could be purchased more cheaply at Costco at the cash register. We were asked if we would use our PC optimum card and that's when we realized this is a grocery store with some restaurant supplies, one of the big things that should have triggered that thought was that there's no membership required. In terms of the staff, I found people very friendly, and the location is quite good. If I were just reading the staff, they would get a five star.

I'm not sure if this is the boom in population in the region of Waterloo from the increased foreign worker population brought on by the temporary labour shortage. In the last year, I've had non colour people constantly ramming carts up my backside, even when I go in during the low traffic time. If this is now a thing to rage against coloured population at the Costco- I would ask the patrons to stop and talk to your local MP if you're feeling like a minority. Frankly speaking, targeting people of colour is wrong;as an essential service worker in the region of Waterloo for over a decade and schooling in the region, this is unfair to punish and target by race. My photo shows the self checkout and a prominent coloured person hater who take great joy in ramming coloured patrons. Hate has to stop. I hope Costco employees can better manage and even step in to these matters.
