On this day I was in Tuscaloosa and I decided to try Tony's Italian Grill with 3 of my companions…read more This location could use some work. It's interesting to me how some Italian places can get away with being a dive. Generally the food has to be excellent with lots of Italian's screaming at each other. This is not that place. This joint appears to have been a fast-food place prior. Two of us Frutti De Mare 1 & 2 Shrimp with chopped and Shelled Claims, mussels sautéed in a white wine sauce over homemade pasta. # 1 is over Linguini # 2 is over Fettuccini. This was good. I didn't think it was a $27.00 meal. The bread the give looks like a garlic know, and is excellent. I thought the food was good over. Two of My group had spaghetti. One with Vodka and the other with Mariana sauce. This too was good. I doubt I would go back, although it's not convenient location for me.

A Cozy New Spot for Italian in Tuscaloosa…read more Tony's Italian Grill is a new, family-owned restaurant in Tuscaloosa with comforting dishes and bold flavors. The space used to be a fast-food spot, but they're doing a great job remodeling it into a welcoming dining space. I've visited a couple of times now. The calamari is crisp and flavorful, especially with the fresh lemon and chunky marinara. The shrimp and lobster ravioli is rich and satisfying, with plenty of seafood. Most recently, I tried the Shrimp Cremara, a spaghetti-style dish with a spicy marinara twist--really bold and delicious. The service has definitely improved--they've brought on some new employees who were very attentive and welcoming. They offered dessert (which I passed on this time), but I've had the tiramisu before and it was light, creamy, and worth it. The ambiance is still coming together, but the background music is a nice touch. Portion sizes are generous and pricing is fair. A solid pick for casual Italian in town--I'm excited to see how they keep growing!

The ambiance has a cool vibe with fun arcade games. TV monitors plaster the walls with live sports events. The service was phenomenal with happy servers! Great staff! The food was some of the best Cajun food we ever had, with unique twists on some of our favorite dishes. Scrumptious!! I ordered the Voodoo Shrimp and Grits. So good! Sweet honey glaze bacon was wrapped over plump shrimp and cooked to perfection. And the Boudin balls were OMG fabulous, too! My hubby fully enjoyed his dish, a combination platter of catfish, crawfish and shrimp. Of course, I had to taste it... so good!!! The portion sizes were more than enough for a meal, and a late night snack for later. (Trust me, it won't last past the night.) The Service Manager, Latia Horton, took our experience to the next level!! She genuinely chatted with us about how the restaurant was started. As a former Operations Director, it was a pleasure hearing someone talk so passionately about their job and position. Her talent obviously has been recognized, as she mentioned that she had opened several other locations! Kudos to Latia and Walk-Ons!!! We are looking forward to visiting your location in The Colony, Texas!

Shiki Japanese Thai Sushi Bar

4.3(64 reviews)

1.3 mi

Let me tell you about our first rodeo at Shiki…read more We pulled up excited, walked in... and I ain't gonna lie -- the place looked a little drab. Not "health department issue" drab, just "could use a fresh coat of paint and a pep talk" drab. I started second-guessing all those glowing reviews like, "Did these folks eat at the same place?" Then came the entrance situation. The host stand was vacant. No "please wait to be seated" sign. Just us standing there like we were about to audition for a sushi commercial. So we start to seat ourselves when the lone waiter -- and I mean lone ranger -- glances over and says, "Just a minute." Oh. Copy that. We did the walk of shame right back to the door and waited properly this time. After sitting a spell, he got to us and took our order. Now bless his heart -- that man was running ragged. Every table was full and he appeared to be handling the whole dining room solo. Plates, drinks, orders, probably washing dishes in the back too. We waited... and waited... and waited. It was pushing 30 minutes before the food finally touched down. Now let's talk about the decor. The inside could use some TLC. Maybe a little facelift. Maybe some brighter lighting. Maybe a plant that's alive. But hear me clearly: What the front of house is missing, the chef in the back is absolutely making up for. From the first bite of that ginger salad to the last grain of rice, I started wondering if I'd accidentally walked into an episode of Iron Chef. That salad was crisp and fresh, the soup was on point, and then my salmon hibachi showed up like it had something to prove. And let me tell you -- that salmon was spectacular. Cooked just right. Flavorful. Tender. Seasoned like somebody back there cares deeply about their craft. That chef can flat-out throw down on the grill. Great food. Great flavor. Zero complaints about what hit the plate. Price? Outstanding. Party of two ate for under $50 at a sit-down restaurant -- and that's including a 30% tip. In this economy? That's practically a public service. So here's where I land: (4 out of 5 stars) If service had been quicker, we'd be talking five stars without hesitation. But I'm giving grace here because that waiter looked like he was one espresso away from levitating, and the place was packed -- which, by the way, is usually the surest sign the food's top-notch. We'll be back. And next time, we'll walk in with patience... and maybe a snack in our pocket just in case. Bottom line: Don't judge this book by its cover. The outside may whisper "meh," but the kitchen is singing hallelujah.

We started with the jalapeño calamari, which is always so delicious. We also ordered the spicy tuna tartare, and it was incredibly fresh and packed with flavor. I got the hibachi salmon, and it was honestly some of the best salmon I've ever had. My boyfriend ordered the hibachi shrimp, which was also delicious. The rice and noodles were so flavorful--I could honestly just eat those and be completely happy. We also tried the vegetarian lovers sushi combo, which came with a tofu roll, an avocado roll, and a cucumber roll. Everything was very fresh and super tasty. Another great experience, and it's no surprise that we'll definitely be going back!

This store deserves 0 stars with the level of professionalism shown by not only a crew member but also managers. I only caught two names Shanna and Jones the other i think was named Erika I couldn't tell, but these three ladies were sitting in the drive thru talking about some poor woman who was simply trying to get a refund to her card, and it seemed like they were making it so much harder than it needed to be and insulting her!! "If youre poor just tell us"And "I don't care if she calls corporate good luck finding the number " were just the PG comments. I don't know how anyone could be proud to work with/for such foul human beings the GM and owner should both be ashamed of themselves for hiring these people and allowing them to ruin the Zaxby name. read more
