Residence Palazzo Odoni - Our room at Palazzo Odoni.

    Residence Palazzo Odoni

My stay at Palazzo Odoni was absolutely wonderful. We were greeted not only by Alessandro at the…read morefront desk but also by the hotel dog, Maffy! Everything about Palazzo Odoni deserves an A+. Palazzo Odoni Location: A+ What a great location in the lagoon. After arriving at Marco Polo Airport, my husband and I took the ATVO bus to Piazzale Roma. From Piazzale Roma, walking to Palazzo Odoni took less than five minutes. Similarly, when we checked out of Palazzo Odoni and walked to the train station, we also had a five-minute walk. I loved the courtyard entrance into Palazzo Odoni. When entering the courtyard before walking up the stairs, you would never know that you're in a city with hundreds of people outside. The courtyard was so quiet that I could have heard a pin drop. Palazzo Odoni Staff: A+ I emailed Palazzo Odoni about a week prior to my arrival in Venice to inquire about making reservations for lunch at Enoteca ai Artisti after I experienced problems contacting the restaurant via phone. Alberto at Palazzo Odoni was very kind to call the restaurant on my behalf and schedule a reservation for us. (By the way, that restaurant was incredible!) Alessandro was very helpful with giving us directions and advice on getting around the city. We arrived about 45 minutes before our room was ready, and he provided us coffee on the house during our wait. One more note about the staff: Palazzo Odoni also comes with a hotel dog. That's an A+ no matter what. Palazzo Odoni Rooms: A+ Our room was small and quaint but very clean and lovely. The view from the room and bathroom were wonderful! The Venetian-themed decor was pretty and very fitting for the whole building. Our room was quiet, and we slept very well. Palazzo Odoni Food: A+ The breakfast at Palazzo Odoni was incredible! The croissants and small pastries were fresh and delicious. Also available were meats, cheeses and fruits, which were also fantastic. Even the morning coffee was wonderful. Everything about Palazzo Odoni -- the convenient location, courteous staff, Maffy, the wonderful rooms and the great food -- made our stay in Venice absolutely perfect. If and when I return to Venice, Palazzo Odoni will be my one and only choice for a hotel. I absolutely recommend it.

This place could be so much more... Let me start off by…read moresaying that this was not my first time in Venice, so I am very familiar with Canal and Venice life. Also, it's not my first time at a Residence style apartment, so we knew what to expect. We spent 3 nights in Venice before joining a cruise. We wanted a residence style apartment because we enjoy going to the local stores, buying fresh meats, cheeses, breads, and olives for breakfasts. A great way to taste the local fare. The building has a rich history, rooms are nicely decorated and spacious. HOWEVER!! What is not mentioned on the website, is that you climb 48 steps to get to the hotel entrance. Fine for us, but I saw several guests for the Residence and Hotel (same place, by the way) that were struggling to bring their luggage up and down. The attendant front desk to the Hotel, which shares the hallway as the Residence, refuses to help in any way. This was explained beforehand, however a friend that was traveling with us got a small cut on his arm from one of their glass lamps while checking in, and asked the attendant for a tissue to stop the bleeding. The man said no, because my friend wasn't a guest at the hotel portion. Shame. Also, in our apartment, there were 2 air-conditioning and heating units. Neither one worked. It was 85 during the day during our stay, and the sun heats up the rooms quite a bit, so at night it was miserably hot. So, the first night, we had the windows open to let the cool air in. We had a canal facing room, and EVERYTHING echoes up and down the canal, including boat noises, travelers and locals walking, talking, laughing, and singing. We finally closed the windows at 2AM and sweated the night out. And for the next 2 nights as well. Our friend's apartment didn't have a working air-conditioner either, nor did the 2 German girls next to us. All said it was too hot to sleep comfortably. Now let's talk cleanliness. I have included pictures. The air vent in the bathroom had a thick layer of dust. So did all the furniture not at waist height, such as the coat racks. There were stains on the wall from spilt wine from a previous guest that never was cleaned. The curtains were torn, and smelled of cigarette smoke. The floor between the living room and bedroom had chunks taken out of the concrete, and when you walk past, you step on little concrete pebbles. The place really needed a good cleaning. When you want someone to clean the room, you leave a note on the door, otherwise they don't come. This is fine, except when they do come, all they do is make the bed and empty trash. No clean towels, no clean sheets, no replacement of soap. My wife went to complain, but there was nobody in the Residence office, which was most of the time. So, she talked to the Hotel attendant (remember, they are separate, yeah right), and he thankfully went to the hall closet and got fresh supplies for us. This same Hotel attendant also came to our room at 9:00 PM, the night before we were due to leave, and said that Michele, the owner, sent him to collect the money for the rooms. Unbelievable. Michele, please put some effort into the Apartments. Like I said, this please could be awesome, but it failed.

RE: Mr. Roberto Degano, Airbnb Venice…read more UNPROFESSIONAL AND FILTHY APARTMENT Appartamento Mandola: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/4326411?checkin=03%2F03%2F2015&checkout=03%2F09%2F2015&s=lD9t https://www.airbnb.com/users/show/21056474 Candidly our experiences with Mr. Roberto Degano where less than thrilling. Yes he was timely in getting back to us to confirm our stay and sent us several texts, indicating how excited he was to be welcoming us to the apartment. He meet us the Vaparetto stop, and as soon as we disembarked told us that there was a snow storm resulting in damage to the apartment we booked which was located near Piazza San Marco. He assured us he moved us to a "better" apartment with a "better" location. Neither of these of proved true. First the major deal breakers: The apartment he took us took was filthy----with used towels hanging in the bathroom from the previous guests, they were still damp! The shower and sinks where filthy, in fact the entire apartment at this point was dirty upon closer examination. Additionally Mr. Roberto Degano did not show us around the apartment nor did he explain anything about Venice, which is confusing to a first time vistor. We found a local hotel which was very accomadating and I called Airbnb to report the situation with Mr. Roberto Degano. They were very appolgetic and issued a full refund immediately. Our hats off the Airbnb for their prompt response, thank you. We would have acquiesced to the new apartment; all it would have taken was sincerity from Mr. Roberto Degano. Clearly he never inspected the new apartment before dropping us off, rather quickly I might add.

CA' del Dose - Room balcony - not a nice view and very few rooms (maybe just one) have one

Basic no-nonsense hotel near St. Mark's Basilica…read more I have a few basic requirements for a hotel room in Venice: clean, comfortable, inexpensive and near St. Mark's Basilica. There is nothing like staying up late into the night listening to the dueling orchestra's in St. Mark's Square and then a 5 minute walk back to the hotel with a smile on your face. All of those requirements are met with Ca' del Dose. There are only 6 rooms in this tiny hotel and my party of 8 nearly rented out the entire place. You have to tell them when you're arriving at the hotel so they can meet you. After that you keep your keys and you can wander in and out of the hotel like it's your own private apartment. I love that feeling! Someone comes in some time during the day and cleans your room and refills the miniscule but surprisingly tasty breakfast. Someone is at the front desk during the morning and afternoon but other than that you have the tiny place to yourself. The rooms are all basic and some rooms even have a balcony. This is one of the easiest hotels to find in Venice. From St. Mark's Basilica walk towards the gondolas, turn left at the water, keep the water to your right, go over 4 bridges and then turn left at the next alley. The hotel is on your right. Ask if they give a discount for paying in cash.

Don't forget that hot water is a luxury and that the water heater above the toilet is all the hot water you'll get. Just something to get used to and be aware of so you're not all soapy and the water turns cold. The woman at the counter was very pleasant and wanted to help us with our Italian. We had our own apartment so we had our own keys, but be advised that someone is not at the front desk 24/7 but there is a phone number in case you need someone. Just not sure how available they are.

You'll love Paolo, his sister and the apartment. Found this place through Airbnb. Used the word…read morebefore today, but really a hidden gem. It's located in a quiet area. Both the St. Mark's Square and Piazzale Roma are on walking distance, about 10-15 minutes depending on the crowd. The appartment is located on the grond floor on a quiet canal. You can see the gondola's floating by from the windows. And the watertaxi can come to the front door. Inside you'll find a master bedroom with a double bed, two one person bedrooms with a bed/sleeping couch and two bathrooms. Both with toilet, bidet and a shower and 3 towel's a person. There's a little kitchen with al the things you need and a relatively big patio. Everything is very, very luxerious and spotless clean. You'll think you're in a one of those magazines. Beautiful. And everything you'll think you can possible need is there. Paolo had a cold bottle of Prosecco in the fridge, there were tea bags and coffee cups, toast, butter and jam and even shampoo (skin friendly) and shower gel. You'll also find magazines to relax and the tourguides if you forgot one. Paolo picked us up from the airport (although we had a very late arrivel) and took the time to show us around the apartment and the neighbourhood, pointing out the bakery (open 365 days), the supermarket (normal hours) and a view restaurants. He even took us for a drink and insisted on paying. Tip: La Zucca should be fantastic. Only....you'll have to make reservations way in advance. Probably before you arrive. During our stay Paolo was available for tips and making arrangements like reservations. He even send us a sms to remind us to put the garbage out on time. Check-out was between 09.00 and 10.30 by Paolo's sister who also cleans the place. Like the late arrival, we had a late flight. And even that was no problem. We had to leave the apartment to give Paolo's sister a chance to get it ready for the next guests, but we could leave our luggage in the apartment and even use the toilet when we picked it up again. I think we paid around the €200 a night during eastern for a place where 4 people can sleep. Great value for money. And note that Paolo speaks excellent English which makes the conversation easy and entertaining.
