What a surprisingly delightful end to our honeymoon! We had been traveling all over NZ for the previous three weeks, and the last place we were exploring was Golden Bay. Some of the places we had booked for the trip ended up not working out as well as we expected. We booked Zatori not quite knowing what to expect and we were totally stoked. Tracey has the place running like clockwork, and all of the staff was delightful. There is free, unlimited, and very good wifi included, along with all the other things you'd expect at a nice hotel. But they really knock it out of the park with the homemade bread, delicious food, and beautiful setting. Nothing's better than watching the sunset on the deck, enjoying a glass of wine, and playing the ukulele that they had in the lobby. Definitely a highlight of our trip. read more

Zatori Retreat is a brand new lodge/retreat/conference centre/wedding venue built in the old Joan Whiting Rest Home in Collingwood. Zatori Retreat is a new destination set in gorgeous Collingwood overlooking the village and estuary. Its an absolutely stunning site and now fully refurbished into four luxury suites all with private decks and plush rooms with private ensuites. All of the luxury private rooms have flat screen TV, Wifi and your own tea & coffee etc. The East Wing provides a selection of eight rooms all with awesome views & doors straight onto new huge deck. The East Wing provides rooms with bunk & queen bed options all with shared facilities...three new bathrooms and new kitchen and two lounges with TV & optional Wifi. All rooms have central heating, great views and a gorgeous decks. Zatori Retreat is well known for its sensational & addictive chocolate coming from Café de Chocolat in Nelson. Guests at Zatori Retreat luxury suites will get special fresh chocolate on their pillows. Lots of on site storage for bikes or sports gear. Kayaks & paddlebaords are available for rent

History

Established in 2014.

Joan Whiting has been a Midwifery, Hospital & Rest Home since 1940's. She is a grand old home that has provided a comforting place of rest & healing for most of Golden Bay. The residents of Joan Whiting moved into a fabulous new purpose built facility in Takaka at end of 2013 when Zatori Retreat purchased the property.

Meet the Business Owner: Tracey W.

Zatori Retreat is locally owned and operated by Tracey Walker. I am a local, born and bred in Takaka and have three gorgeous children, whom I have used two letters from each of their names to create the name Zatori Retreat. Zara, Tor & Ari...makes Zatori. My children are 5th generation Golden Bay, so it's a pleasure and honour to now own one of Golden Bays most special and prominent properties and bring new life into a gracious old gem.
