This was a great stop when we were approaching Yosemite and needed a little pick me up before arriving. The lattes were good, not too much milk so we could actually taste the coffee. The staff were friendly and helpful to make sure we got exactly what we wanted. The cookies were decent, albeit only vegan available, which is the only reason for four stars instead of five. While I am not really complaining about that, I would have liked to see an alternative for those of us who actually still appreciate a good old fashioned baked good with real butter, eggs and sugar. read more

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G little coffee shop! On our way home from visiting Yosemite, I was dying for some tasty caffeine to keep me awake for the long drive ahead, but was afraid that I wouldn't be able to find anything to fit the bill! Low and behold, a sign from God that read "espresso and drive thru!" And it wasn't a Starbucks. We pulled up to the quaint and cute lil' shop/drive thru and checked out their large and affordable menu of caffeine concoctions. With so many yummy choices like Milky way, Mudslide and White Mocha, I had a hard time choosing. Being that it was a hot day, I opted for the Iced Carmilla, my Mom ordered the Iced White Mocha and my hubby who doesn't drink coffee (and who doesn't know what he's missing) got a strawberry smoothie. My Carmilla was fantastic, just sweet and caramel-y enough but with a strong coffee flavor. I also tasted my Mom and hubby's drinks, they were both delish! You could taste the fresh strawberries in the smoothie and the white mocha had an awesome hint of chocolate flavor without being over powering! The girl who took our order at the drive thru was smiling, helpful and sweet! The drinks took no time at all and we were on our way with our flavorful and fulfilling drinks! What a great little independent coffee stop! Will definitely patronize again on our next trip up north. read more

I needed this place. My family lives in Coarsegold, doesn't drink coffee, doesn't even have a coffee pot at home, and doesn't have a clue that caffeine is vital to my existence. On the way to my grandmother's wedding reception, I spotted Zander's and jumped out of the car. The little girl at the counter was my saviour. I asked her for an iced mocha, but since I like my coffee super strong, with an extra shot. She smiled sweetly and asked if I wanted anything else. Yes ! Iced tea. She asked if I wanted green or black, and I was surprised. The coffee shops I've worked for never had green tea just ready to go. But green tea wasn't going to hit the spot, and I ordered black. There were an abundance of yummy-looking treats, including madeleines and muffins and cookies, but I actually don't like baked goods so I passed on them. I noticed the coffee was roasted by Mariposa Coffee Co. You can grab pounds of their stuff at Draeger's in Menlo Park, or for $10 a pound at Zander's. They also had a ton of cards and knick-knacks of the typical chintz often found in Valley homes. Eh, I'll pass. Whilst I was waiting (in an area about the size of my closet), another customer came in. I could tell he was a regular, because he carried with him a large print book and two pairs of reading glasses. But the octogenarian still had it going on; he said to the barista, "Hello, you young looker" and she replied "Hello you OLD looker". I love stuff like that ! I miss the old men who used to hit on me in coffee shops. They were such an ego boost. I got my coffee in good time (under five minutes), which was even more impressive because the barista was making drinks for the customers inside as well as for those in the drive thru. Yes, it has a drive thru window, which is sort of acceptable if you consider that mornings in the Sierra foothills can be alarmingly cold. The girl who rang me up and gave me my drinks even offered to open the door for me because I had two drinks in my hands. What a sweetheart ! I declined, because I had to to add some sugar to my tea. The tea was stong as any good black tea should be, but not the way my southern family likes to make it. It was still very good. The iced mocha was perfectly stirred, and the shots felt sweet but perhaps a bit too light for my taste. I believe the espresso that day was 49er Blend. Not my favourite (Peet's Garuda blend, oooohh my Goddddd), but still delicious. If I ever have to go back to that awful town, I will probably just sit here at Zander's and talk mystery novels with that silver fox. The enthusiasm and friendliness of the staff is what really made my experience great, so for that, I will forgive them for the tacky gifts. read more
