I'm reading reviews and most of the issues are because of Susan. That's why I left. Zach is great. Susan is rude and condescending. She's Zach's mother in law, so nothing will change. They would email me, text and call everyday to remind me of my appt. I asked them to just leave me one message. Susan, in her usual condescending tone, said I've put a note on your file to not contact you, I said one contact is fine not 15. She said "if you can remember" Fast forward. Was outta town. She called to ask if I was coming in. I said no, didn't know I had an appointment. No one ever called that one time. Susan was trying to make a point. That was my last interaction. I've found a new dentist. I told them it was so nice to deal with nice people. read more

Dr. Johnston and his staff are excellent! He was confident in his assessment that he could correct my dead front tooth with a veneer, after 2 previous dentists said it would be a waste of money and would not fix the discoloration. I was a bit nervous, but decided to give it a go and am so glad I did! My tooth turned out fantastic, my husband often cannot even tell which tooth was corrected. His hygienists are great as well, very gentle with cleanings and also personable. Highly recommend this practice. read more

Do not go here. They chipped my tooth and then said it was like that when I arrived. As if I wouldn't know if my tooth was chipped. Between that experience and the last time I went when they attempted to x-ray me and messed it up three times it really is just a poorly run office. read more

Dr. Zach is truly the best. Our entire family goes to see him and he is competent and delightful. My oldest daughter has had multiple cavities, despite our best efforts. Due to Dr. Zach's friendly atmosphere and capable hands, she has made it through every appointment without tears and is never afraid to go for her annual check up. We highly recommend him! read more

Less than a month later (after never having dental issues in my life!), the crown placed has come off. I was "dismissed" as his patient for daring to question their (illegal) billing practices, but not fast enough. It's really hard to believe that after contesting fraudulent insurance practices, my crown coincidentally popped off. So, we have one of two problems here: 1- This is a pretty rotten dentist who cannot place a crown 2- This is a pretty rotten human who poorly placed a crown after being challenged for violating a legal insurance agreement. read more

Update: Zero stars You know why... Update: To be matter-of-fact about the ordeal I never had an issue with my insurance benefits, the limitations of my dental insurance or co-pay portions. I had a procedure completed that was listed on the dental plan I received from your office with a price listed. The day of the procedure I paid a different price which I didn't realize until after I left your office, I called to ask Susan why the difference she became aggravated and very short with me and stated she could not tell me about anyone else's insurance she could only tell me about my insurance and that my insurance didn't pay the entire amount due for the last procedure. (If that was the case I never received any notice from your office.) Well I didn't ask about anyone else's insurance. Then she asked could she have a number to call me back, I stated no I'll call you back. She did call back and have the audacity to give a half-baked apology for being short with me due to your office being shorthanded. Even after this incident I decided to come back as I said previously I thought you and Susie were awesome. But after the last visit, and six months of contemplating on giving my money to an office that apparently could care less and your response to my review and reading your responses to the reviews that were dissatisfied with your office (They seemed a bit on the unprofessional side of things.), yes the route I'm taking is with a new dentist. Additionally, there are multiple reviews concerning Susan aka your Mother-in-law's negative actions on Google and Yelp. So, I did not imagine her non-customer skills behavior. God Bless... Yes, Dr. Johnston is amazing, Susie the Dental Hygienist is also amazing. Unfortunately, I have decided not to return due to Susan who is the receptionist/Insurance Specialist (allegedly) aka Dr. Johnston's mother-in-law, she apparently has no idea what customer service is in this day and time when the city of Memphis is full of dental offices. I have hated the dentist my whole life until now. Dr. Johnston was helpful and friendly. His staff was the best. This is customer service at its best. He made me feel at ease in a situation that I am generally very uncomfortable. For the first time in my life, I did not experience pain during dental work. This office is the real deal. My whole family goes here (including my 6 year old). Call this dentist! I had great experience...They get me to relax, and treated me great. I didn't have my insurance card for my first visti, and they help show me how I can pull it up on my phone. Dr Johnston was very nice and didn't try to sell me dental work, he did what I needed and ill be back. Beth was a supper hygienist and Susan was great at explaining what I needed and helping to get me set up payments. I recommend Dr Johnston and his entire staff. read more

I visited Dr. Johnston's office for a crown. The staff was friendly and kind upon my initial visit. However, when I went back because I was experiencing some pain the service was horrible!! I told the receptionist that I was in pain and needed to be re-checked because something was wrong. She told me that Dr. Johnston was "practicing medicine" and sometimes he gets it right and sometimes he gets it he doesn't. I cold not believe what I was hearing. I did not know that I was gambling with my health!! To make matters worse the doctor comes into the examination room and reprimands. He said his receptionist told him what I said. I could not believe this doctor was more concerned about gossip than my dental care. He was acting "mad" like a child, totally unprofessional!!! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE The thing is, I am a reasonable person. All I expect when I receive healthcare and dental services is to be treated with respect and good customer service. This has not been my experience at this dental office. Instead I have experienced incompetence and downright rudeness from the office/scheduling staff. *I would like to clarify that the actual dental hygienist and the dentist were both fine and I did not have any issues with them. It is the way I have been treated by the office in general that I have a problem with- specifically the snide and overbearing attitude of the office manager, Susan. First of all I made my appointment on Monday, May 22 and the appointment was set for Tuesday, May 23 at 1:45 pm. They said they had a cancellation and they specifically said I could come in "the next day". I keep meticulous notes about these interactions because I am a meticulous nurse myself. Anyway. I show up at my appointment time, and the receptionist tells me that "my appointment isn't until tomorrow" and I was a day early. Confused, I left, came home and checked my notes and confirmed, and called them back and asked why my appointment was changed. The receptionist said she "isn't the one who made the appointment" and she "didn't know" but they offered to squeeze me in at the end of the day. So I ended up going. After looking at my x-rays and examining my mouth, Dr. Johnston stated that I needed a crown, a filling, and a removal of a bite ramp which was placed when I had braces years ago (from Dr. Sherry in Yukon, OK, if you ever get out that way she is amazing!) Anyway he said that was what I needed, after telling me he had "never seen anything like that" and "maybe that was something they used to do years ago because he hasn't been practicing dentistry for that long." (Dr. Sherry, by the way, was and is on the cutting edge of cosmetic dentistry, but that is another topic.) OKAY! So, I'm all done, and the office manager, Susan, who has obviously already closed up shop for the day and is clearly ready to go, tells me that she will coordinate with the doctor's schedule and my insurance, and both EMAIL and CALL ME the NEXT DAY to get everything set up for my return visit. She did not in fact call or email me, at all. Now granted, later that week the dentist office closed for vacation, and that weekend Memphis had the big power outage, but that is still no excuse as they were open and running on Wednesday the 24th. Well, I didn't know what was going on, so I called two different times over the next week and left two voicemails asking them to return my call. Susan finally calls me back on the 30th and says "We got all of your messages" in a condescending tone, talks over me and interrupts me several times, and basically tries to blame the recent power outage for her incompetence, despite the fact that it happened AFTER she was supposed to have emailed and called me. But okay, I gave them another chance, and I set up an appointment. FAST FORWARD TO TODAY, I call and speak with Susan again in order to confirm how much the work I need is going to cost and if we can cancel the crown for the time being, and she tells me, "What I quoted you is just for the crown, because that's all you asked for." Which is incorrect. From the beginning I specifically said I needed all three things done that the dentist recommended. I was laboring under the misconception that the total cost was $636 for everything. No, the total cost for everything was going to be $1100, AFTER insurance. $500 just to pop the bite ramp out from behind my teeth! And none of that was ever explained to me. I tried to talk it out and I was at least going to do the filling. Well, she then began talking over me and interrupting me again, and she HUNG UP IN MY FACE!!! I called back and told her to cancel my appointment and told her she didn't need to be a rude bitch to customers/patients. And I meant it. This place is just not for me. I will be seeking an older, more established dentist office with friendly and competent staff who don't try to blame others for their failure to do their jobs. read more

The best dentist in town. Period. I refer all my friends to Dr. Johnston! I'm a problem patient--you know, the patient who hates going to the dentist but has a million dental issues--and he patiently deals with all my quirks AND is able to oftentimes fit me in quickly when I inevitably chip a tooth before a big event. Dr. Johnston is the best dentist I've ever had and I have had many over my lifetime. Since I started seeing him, I have needed major dental work over the past 3 yrs because my crowns, bridge and teeth in general are getting "old". I was extremely fortunate to have found Dr. Johnston because he works with great precision and skill; all the while having a warm and engaging chair-side manner. The entire staff are awesome, competent and patient. I have great esteem for their work ethic and have had all positive experiences and greatly appreciate their expertise. My husband and I really liked Dr. Johnston and went to him for about a year. After our first child was born, however, I was late to one appointment. (It was literally my first time leaving my daughter and taking her to a sitter and I got the time mixed up by 45 minutes). The receptionist called and left a message as I was on my way to my appointment so I called her back and told her what happened. She was extremely condescending and told me that they don't even schedule appointments at 8:45 or 9:45, they're always on the hour. Needless to say she made me feel terrible when I was already stressed about leaving my newborn. A few days later when I called to reschedule the appointment, she rudely told me to "now make sure you write this down in your planner this time, ok?" Again, needless to say, we've switched dentists and are very happy where we are. I also found out that the receptionist is the dentist's mother-in-law. read more
