Zaad had some solid food but the reason I gave it three starts versus four/five stars is because their TGTG bag is inaccurate in their value. You're actually better off sticking to the regular menu, more bang for your buck. Anyways, again the food here is solid but they need to be honest with their pricing on TGTG, that's all. Small restaurant with very little seating. It is quite cramped. Staff is very busy but they're nice and patient. We ordered the mixed platter and falafels and it ended up being $30 which is a little outrageous considering the portion. The meat hard to chew because some pieces had tendons and the rice was whatever. The hummus was not great but not bad. The falafels were crispy but did not have much flavor. Zaad might have my favorite falafel pita in all of NYC; definitely has my favorite in Manhattan. Fluffy pita, crispy falafel, and the flavorful toppings make for something that's so simple but honestly perfect. They're cooking throughout the day so everything has always been super fresh. Prices are super reasonable and the service is excellent, the folks working here are always so friendly. Sometimes there's a wait, but you can order online on their website ahead of time to avoid that. I've also had the baklava a couple times and that's great if you want something sweet, there's a walnut and pistachio one. We both had falafel sandwiches which were fresh with great ingredients and non greasy falafels. Prices were really reasonable for most things and the plated entrees look very solid. It's a tiny restaurant and really no place to sit but great food at really good prices. We came here after grabbing pastries at the Hungarian Pastry shop nearby and it was a win win on both places. Loved it, here visiting a relative who works at Columbia-needed fast and went to my reliable yelp...and did not disappoint. There are 6 seats tiny, like a take out place w delivery bike people buzzing in to get their orders- but whatever I sat alone got a coke and had a delightful meal with a fresh warm pita! Eating at Zaad is definitely worth it--the food was so flavorful, the prices are reasonable, and the portions are huge! The man there was also super nice--he gave us a free sample falafel and also checked on us to make sure we liked our food (which we definitely did; we were just eating slowly at first because we were catching up). I really enjoyed the combination of flavors and textures of the beef shawarma platter. There was a nice contrast between the fresh salad/cucumbers and the richer meat and creamy dips. Wow. Seriously wow. I am SO blown away with this place. It looks like they opened within the last 5 months which is admirable in this time. The inside and outside are fresh and clean. The menu is visible from outside and it's not overwhelming. While we were looking at the menu, the owner handed us a sample of falafel. Outstanding! One of us had to get the falafel wrap. Amazed by the portion sizes and price. He gave me so much beef in my wrap. And all of the toppings looked fresh in the display. The taste was out of this world - juicy and tender beef! And for cheap! The falafel wrap was just as delicious. Best Mediterranean food I've had in UWS and NYC. Hopefully this place stays in business and gets more traffic going into spring. Stop in for a tasty free falafel... then ORDER EVERYTHING ELSE!!!!!! Yesterday we ordered dinner for 10, pickup an hour and a half before out guests showed up. Oh my god the flavor!! This place is soooo good and I'm not a heavy shawarma lover and this place has made me change my ways. I'm also a Duzan/Zyaara frequenter and I like this place a lot better. Let me start off by saying the falafel here is delicious. Even when I ate my sandwich a few hours later it was awesome. The flavor was really great. One of the best falafel I've had in a really long time. The other order for someone else was also truly enjoyed, and this will most likely be a go to spot for us for falafel. However, I would have given 5 stars if it wasn't for the thing that most complaints I see here are for. We ordered the yogurt salad (cucumber, mint and yogurt) and were sent some kind of soup instead. I am NOT a fan of being duped or having someone else make decisions for me without me consenting.
