I was looking for a nonreligious community service opportunity that isn't just set up for people completing court-mandated service. and if you are looking for the same, I recommend volunteering at EPFHFB. If your schedule doesn't allow, then check out some of their food drive events, hopefully you can help. Volunteer tasks include cleaning, sorting, and packaging donations so that they may be distributed to those who need it. There's always something to do, and the folks who work here are tremendously appreciative of volunteers. Plus it's good Karma :)

This is one of those easy places. I almost stumbled upon the kitchen's entrance but I was kindly guided to the right path with some chuckles. The place inside is simple yet manages to catch your glare and attention to see every detail and every leaf on their plants...that you can buy!. The concept of order is kept simple as well. Pick your plate and sit down anticipating the unique taste that comes from vegetarian dishes. I left a happy customer once I got to taste those tacos you see in my image. Hidden but not for long. I found out about the local non-profit organization, Mija, Yes You Can last year. I like everything…read morethey stand for like...supporting women who want to go to college, Covid patients and various other El Paso non-profits. I had the pleasure of meeting Iris Lopez, the founder of the group last year. She's a nice and genuine person. She's also really down to earth. I enjoyed getting to know more about MYYC. Mija, Yes You Can was started on March 8, 2020, aka International Women's Day. I thought that was pretty cool! What a perfect date to start something that's so important in the El Paso Community! Iris is also on KVIA-TV. You can catch her giving weather reports and mostly fun stories, too. A mural was recently created of Iris in central El Paso because of her charity work. Estrella Jalisco Beer funded the project. They plan to create murals in 100 cities like Phoenix and San Diego. What does mija mean? It's a popular term of endearment in the Latino/Latina community. You hear your mom, abuela (grandmother) and/or tia (aunt) and other loved ones call you mija throughout your life. You're mijo if you're male. As old as I am, I'm still being called mija! Mija is kind of similar to being called dear or love I'd say. Since I'm really fond of the non-profit and the owner, I decided to buy a t-shirt and sticker to support them and their causes recently. All of the money raised goes to help out others so I was definitely in! The merchandise was received quickly, within two or three days! If you're in town, you can pick up your items for free at The Outlet Shoppes of El Paso. I can't wait to see what else is in store for Mija, Yes You Can. All Fort Bliss Community is very blessed to have access to Milam School Age Center. My kids…read moreattended for Summer Camp for a very affordable price due to the income relief guidelines and had a blast. The staff is caring, fun and very professional. All their activities are very well planned. The kids enjoy coming here and this means tons. I was surprised one day when I arrived to pick up my kids and one of them was carrying out a big trash can. Then she said... "Mom let me take it out because I am going to get a reward if I help" I loved that!! Milam School Age offers afternoon activities through Skies Unlimited, after school care, summer school, and Weekend activities. Please do call to find out about the weekend activities because as far as I am tracking the Saturday activities are free, you simply have to call ahead of time to register your kids.
