Amongst the many chavvy pubs and bars along Bromley High Street (including the Walkabout which is…read moreright next door), The Partridge stands alone as a friendly, inviting pub which has a warm and friendly atmosphere with nary a chav or teenager in site. Albeit, I'm only 33 and my husband and usually feel like we're amongst the youngest of the crowd, but it's worth the trade-off when compared to most of Bromley's other drinking establishments. The building itself is a former bank, and the owners of The Partridge have turned it into a very attractive place for a drink and a meal if so desired. While the food is slightly pricier than your average Wetherspoons, it's worth the extra couple of pounds for decent grub. The beer garden could stand to be a bit bigger as tables get filled quickly in the summer. That said, if you want a place to go in Bromley for a relaxing drink, decent music played at not too high a volume and without the fear of being beaten up by local yobs, The Partridge is your best bet.

In our case, whenever we go abroad, we have to check out the local Irish bar - because the Mrs is Irish and no matter where you go - there's an Irish bar. Whenever we go somewhere we know there's a gay bar - we have to go and check it out. So as you can imagine, we've been to a fair few not so pleasant gay bars in our time. Well done Bromley - you win our least favourite gay bar in the world competition so far. It's dark - so dark I couldn't work out what money I had in my hand to give over the bar. It's expensive - Over £6 for a spirit and mixer - I am not in a poesy soho bar. It's not a poesy soho bar - this of course would normally be a positive point, however it's so dated, dirty, falling apart that I begrudge paying so much for a simple drink. It also ponged - B.O. It's unfriendly - in a 'you're not from round here' kind of way. I'm sure if we had gone there at night it might have had a different atmosphere and wouldn't have been so awful. I so wanted this to be a new regular for me since moving further south, but I think I'll keep Bromley for shopping rather than drinking.

That's because, away from the very pleasing Otter Ale, they serve some pretty great looking food. On the boards, I saw pig's head, which according to my chum who had just eaten it, was amazing. Alas, I can't personally vouch for it as I was only drinking and staring at the various mounted animal heads on the wall (great boar's head folks). The vibe inside is all wooden and dimly lit, which personally, I think makes for a perfect drinking den. If you're a stalker of some kind, it might be worth putting this place on your stalker map (stalkers, I assume, have special maps with pins in and the like). Known drinkers here include the not-so-impressive Adrian Chiles and the properly famous Hugh Grant, who I'm told is a fan of Twiglets. There's a small smoking section with seat which is pretty cool and an especially rude cat called Lily who I found rather endearing in its aloofness. Basically, this is a bit of jewel of a pub, although, some of the prices for beer can be a little off-putting. Definitely worth a trip though.

Also..bar snacks - the anglesey has taken lead and provided the standard pub classic like 'a pint of prawns' - the good old sausage roll and a list of other variables.... The outside area is always mobbed in the summer and is complimented by heaters for the days that are slightly chilly. It's an excellent spot for afternoon / early evening drinking - and is particularly busy with lots of young locals on a sunday evening!

Their Sunday roast is really solid, with options of Beef, Lamb, Gammon and Turkey (sorry, no chicken oddly). I've also had a really good burger here and have been impressed with both the cost, service and quality of food. In terms of being a pub, there is a good selection of beers, including some good ales and quite good selection of bottled beers. Additionally, they show most sport events, so it's good to come and watch a big game. This is definitely a place I will be frequenting!
