The outside sign is in Welsh, Tafern Llew Goch. I would never have found this without the locals who took me there, and I have to say it was friendly, warm, and comfy. But I go to pubs for meals, and the menu wasn't entirely to my taste, a little precious and fussy: perhaps the chef is a little too upscale for the venue. I had a burger which was all right.

Yes the clientele is slightly on the rougher side, but really what do you expect in Merthyr Tydfil. But now, let me tell you a few things about the Wyndham that may come of surprise; the bar stock pretty much everything and anything, prices are god damn reasonable, the music is good and the place is generally very clean. So clean, customers even take their dogs there. Rough, scary looking beasts that once patted are as cute natured as a new born pup. The pub itself is big and airy and in general, a nice place to be. OK, the customers usually have no teeth and are completely plastered before the shops open but let me tell you now, what a bloody educating place the Wyndham is. Be warned, everyone will turn and look as you make your grand entrance, but once again, welcome to Wales! If your lucky enough to not get stared at and actually get involved with the conversation, i can guarantee, hands down, you'll have one of the best little afternoons of your life!

I love this pub - I suppose it's more like an Inn really, but it's a great place…read more It's practically in the middle of nowhere, on the edge of the Brecon Beacons. It's full of all the locals, and everyone knows each other, but they are always friendly and welcoming to anyone who goes there. It's tiny inside, just one small bar with one barman/barmaid, an old coal fireplace, a TV and some seats/tables. A very homely atmosphere, and cosy - truly lovely!

It really is perfect for a summers day, although drinks are pricey and your pretty much miles from every-bloody where so make sure you book a taxi! Food is cheap and cheerful and not that special, service along the same sort of lines but the character of the building and dark yet pleasant décor inside make up for any of the crap'ness these chains seem famous for. All in all; brilliant for families, brilliant for sunny days and brilliant for something to do if super bored. Although; there is a height restriction on the play area inside so don't go getting any ideas!
