There are 4 words i can describe my overall time here at Roxbury prep from 6th to 12th grade:…read moreDepression. Anxiety. Humiliation. Anger. Before i get into any of this, i want to say some of the things i include here are based off of my personal experiences. In other words, in the aspect you will see, I'm speaking for myself. Another very important thing is this: The review i've written is like an essay. So if you are willing to read ALL of this, then...enjoy. If not, then keep on scrolling...idk. Let me just start off with the tip of the iceberg. I understand that this school is much more affordable than most others in this area and that's one thing that i do like about uncommon schools. However, its not always about the money, parents. Pay attention. The communication is TERRIBLE. It takes a miracle for somebody to answer an email. A text message at that. Before that, at the mission hill campus, they were more consistent in that area. However, as of now, not so much. Another major problem is the FOOD. I understand that school lunch isn't supposed to be the best cuisine ever. I hate to sound like a Karen, but whatever kind of things they serve here are just unacceptable. I highly doubt the things they serve here are even healthy at that. The hot dogs are GREEN, the pizza is SOGGY while the cheese is a completely different color. The mac n cheese is BURNT. I don't know how they were able to afford constructing a brand new building with even upgrading the food. An even BIGGER problem is the fact that every single morning we would have to wait outside the school all the way until 7:30. However, the teachers get to go inside before us. It doesn't seem that much of an issue until i tell you that we stay out there whatever the weather. We shouldn't have to wait that long just to enter the building. We should be let in when the school opens AT ALL. They should have enough time the night before, to prepare everything for the next day. And then you know its bad when your parent regrets putting you in a school like this. Its good to know i was right about complaining. Their PHONE policy. It hasn't been much of a problem up until the new building came around. Now, i know what you're thinking: "It's good for them to take phones away for the day, it provides less distraction and concentration!" I agree with that. But at the same time, it provides hazards. Something can happen, lets say a school shooting, a fire, or an emergency (god forbid) and then the students wouldn't be able to contact a parent or guardian. I'm talking about this because of the fact that these people were doing this from the start. And i personally just don't like it when my property is taken from me. But that's not the only reason why I'm talking about this. Now i will admit this happened because of me.. Because this school were having us put our phones in phone boxes, lots of people started to bring in burner phones. And of course i was among them. Long story short, i forgot to get my burner from the front office last day before winter break. So two weeks later, i returned back and asked for it. And when i did, i was able to get it back. For a second. Now they had to make sure it wasn't a burner. Me, not knowing if that device worked anymore, admitted it was indeed a burner. Next thing you know, these people are over here telling me that they cannot give it back just because. Now i understand its a fake phone, but Burner or not, that phone is still my property and should be returned to the rightful owner. During the last few days i tried asking the front office for the phone back due to the fact that it was the end of the year. Then they're over here telling me that they need to speak to the principle, which is STUPID. I remember when i was first enrolled into this school, i said i was gonna sue this school. So thanks, RPHS, now i have a reason to. Environment Now I'm sure any good parent wants their children in a safe learning place (i know if i was a parent myself, i would), where they don't have to worry about protection and safety. Especially if your children have been in good places before. If that is a big deal for you, DONT ENROLL THEM. During the 25-26 year, OVER 60 fights have taken place. The kids here are VIOLENT. People like them school a dangerous. Throughout my time, I've treated badly by other kids, at one point severely bullied to the point where we had to have a meeting with the dean, and gotten into fights. Authenticity They claim to do their job but they don't. Their so called "mission" is sending you to college. They only want to help you if it benefits THEM. They only help you if you go to the college they WANT you to go to. That's what they don't tell you. They keep all this a dirty secret So Roxbury prep is a good, strict disciplinary school that works hard to put you into college, right? And a fucking dangerous, ghetto, and pathetic excuse of an organization that deserves nothing but downfall.

Five reasons why this school is outstanding and why we send our child to GUS…read more 1. Student to teacher ratio is amazingly low due to the co-teacher model. In addition, there are five other special subject teachers and the children attend these classes biweekly. I have observed extensive one-on-one teaching and each child is given individual mentoring and coaching. In addition there is time to attend to the all the students, encompassing their own unique developmental needs. 2. The schools policies are top notch - including safety, honesty, and respect for each individual. A super important and wonderful policy surrounds the use of technology. It is not relied upon to fill in due to lack of school resources, nor are cell phones allowed to be powered on by students within the school grounds. 3. A focus of the curriculum is on teaching kids to communicate and understand one another using honesty and empathy. The children have certain times of the week they focus on social and emotional growth and development. When situations arise that require attention, a great deal of effort is made to help children work out their own solutions with support. 4. Children learn to advocate for others and for themselves. The curriculum integrates time for learning to speak up for and stand up for those who need additional support. 5. A really special highlight is that our children learn to speak and perform individually and collectively in front of groups - ranging from their peers in small groups to assemblies in front of the entire school. We are very fortunate that we chose GUS and that we can send our child to GUS!

It is an academically open minded and encouraging place, and thanks to GUS, both my kids have found their voice in ways that pleasantly surprised me. GUS is forward thinking in its mindset, but old fashioned in its process. Trustworthy and creative. It is a very good place.

The program is primarily play based (many studies point to play as the primary format in which toddlers learn) which doesn't mean the teachers let them roam free all day - interactions and activities are always thoughtful and intentional both to expose and develop motor skills, social skills, etc. The children are very much ready for kindergarten and graduate to many top elementary schools as I've seen with my oldest. As a parent, the teachers feel like my partner in my child's development and they are a wonderful resource and support as we've gone through different phases. Most importantly, I feel that the staff really love and care about my kids - you can see it in the attention they give them everyday, their genuine interest to hear about their lives outside of school and their shared joy in new milestones. I've noticed a negative review here on Yelp and I'm surprised to see that. Our experience has been wholly positive even as the school has been through director transitions in the past two years (there was a (wonderful) interim director for a full school year). The families have all been warm and friendly too - more so than I even expected.

Classes were small, no more than 23 students per teacher. Each grade had only one class, which allowed all students efficient time in the classroom to build learning skills and friendships. Children's Early Learning Center of Danvers is that type of place. For context, and full disclosure We've had our son here from before when it was under previous ownership. We loved a lot of his teachers, but we also noticed that the quality of the school was going down. That was due to the previous ownership (Northeast Montessouri of Danvers). When the new owners were announced, We were happy if cautious. The sun rises and sets with our son. We wanted to suss them out and hoped we would have a chance to do it before they took over. Weeks before the new owners took over they were there available to talk to and discuss how they would be running the daycare. I found them to be super personable and I noticed that my son really liked them too. I also am a stickler for "The rules" aka the standard regulations and they are too. They officially took over on October 1...and it was like going from Black and White to an HDTV or when you see a movie in IMAX and they play the sound differences. (I can remember telling my wife it reminded me of when Dorothy pushes open the door after she lands in Oz and the movie goes for black and white to color) Immediately you noticed the difference. Proactive owners means proactive directors which means proactive staff. My son is happier than he was before (and I think everyone there knows he's a pretty happy kid baseline). he loves the owners and center director. The rooms are great and there is just a much more fun vibe there. (In our case a shout out also has to go to Ms Emily, our son's teacher, who is just awesome!) Look, we all HAVE to send our kids to daycare. With that in mind, the goal should then be to find a place you WANT to send your child. Children's Early Learning Center of Danvers is a place where you WANT to send you son or daughter.

I have a bachelor's degree in Child Development from Tufts University, and am Preschool Lead Teacher and Infant/Toddler Teacher certified by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education & Care. That said, this preschool was, by far, the most dynamic, caring, and stimulating preschool I've ever had the privilege to work for! New Covenant is a preschool motivated by the Christian faith. Grace is said before snack, and positive Bible stories are often shared in the morning circle. The Christian faith inspires the school's dedication to thanksgiving, forgiveness, and honesty. The classrooms are well-equipped with a variety of stations and activities. They are clean, meticulously organized, and children-focused. The schedules are intentionally built to foster creativity and support learning while maintaining a four-year-old's attention span. The teachers are extremely well-qualified and deeply compassionate. There is intentional and frequent communication between teachers and parents, and teachers are seen as partners in the development of the children. Academically, the school thoroughly prepares its pupils for kindergarten and beyond. Besides the essential social skills that every kindergartener needs in order to succeed, New Covenant teaches age-appropriate mathematics and literacy, adapted to each child's individual level. Student progress is recorded and analyzed to maximize the efficiency of lesson plans. The arts are a priority, and music is often included as a tool in the lesson plans. I would highly recommend this school for parents of all faith backgrounds.
