SAFETY CONCERNS, PARENTS BEWARE: We joined the YIM South Shore in January 2019. We knew going into it that the gym was located in an older building but still felt it could benefit our family as an affordable place to work out take classes and spend time being healthy together. We very quickly realized that the aquatic dept. has some serious issues, specifically their lifeguards. Over the past 6 months I have personally observed lifeguards buried heads in their cell phones, chatting with friends and other lifeguards with their back completely to 1 or both pools. One lifeguard was running her side business from her cell phone while on duty. IT IS ABSOLUTELY UNSAFE! Mind you, the above listed instances all happened while adults AND CHILDREN were swimming in their pools. Parents send their kids to summer camp here, which includes pool time each day. I can promise you parents have NO IDEA how inattentive, unprofessional and downright unsafe their lifeguards are. I would never allow my child to swim in their pools are attend swimming lessons without being present with eyes on my child because their lifeguards are that unaware. In the 45 minutes I was in their adult pool (with a deep end mind you), the lifeguard took 1 (ONE) lap around the pool, IN 45 minutes, it's only a matter of time until something tragic happens. I have spoken to the front desk staff and Saif, the "owner" 5 documented times in the past 6 months and nothing has changed. In fact, when I alerted Saif today as to their poor behavior he suggested I let him know next time while it is happening by asking the lifeguards (the ones being inattentive) to call him to the pool so he can observe their behavior. WHAT?! He clearly lacks management skills and doesn't seem very serious about changing the safety of the pool area as I have been saying this for 6 months. I filed with the Dept. of Consumer Safety regarding this ongoing issue but parents PLEASE BEWARE! Visit the pool for an hour or 2 yourself and you will very clearly see the problems read more
