The St. John Catholic Club is like stepping back in time and finding yourself in a hidden treasure…read more Yes, it is part of the church and is used for church-oriented events, but it's also able to be rented out for whatever situation you think you want to have and believe me, what you want to do you can do it in glorious fashion. In my situation, a friend decided to rent the club for a New Year's Eve celebration, which went smashingly. The club itself is stuck in the 1970s. You walk in the door to old church league posters, trophy / plaque winners, etc... After walking through a small hallway you find yourself in a mini bar complete with wood panel walls, old neon, fold out tables and chairs. There are a couple of tvs in the corners that you could tune to whatever your heart is set on and a decent system that can pipe in some tunes. We chose to listen to an old classic rock radio station because it seemed to go with the theme. The club does offer some small bar snack-type food for sale, but does allow and recommends that you bring whatever food that you want to serve. Also of note, he club's liquor license allows it to sell beer (they had a decent selection, Bud, Coors, Boulevard, Heineken and some obscure Bosnian beers because the church is an old Bosnian church,) however since they're not allowed to sell hard liquor they did allow us to bring it in. The crown jewel of the club though has to be once you're inside and you look to your left... there's a six lane bowling alley. Yes, you read that correctly. We basically transported ourselves into an old 1970s bar and bowling alley and since we rented the hall we could play unlimited games. Feel free to let all the Lebowski quotes fly because we did and I/we would willingly do so again. The St. John's Catholic Club is a perfect small event space for your celebration needs and I simply cannot sing its praises loud enough.

This review is for the BSF bible study & the church building & grounds only. NOT the church…read moreservice. The church is a big building way larger the it appears from the outside. The grounds are kept very nicely. The inside of the building is always clean as well as the restrooms. Everything is always very tidy & in excellent working order. I attend the BSF bible study group at this location & everyone is extremely friendly. The groups & fellowship are welcoming & great in educating you. The children's class rooms & programs are awesome. The kids are learning just as the adults are but they have some play time worked into their schedule. The adults play time is during groups. The 'play' the the adult get is the interaction talking about the bible & learning from it. Even though it has a leader it is really more group lead. The attendees talk with each other & help you understand & expand your Bible knowledge. To me this is the best way to learn & it is very fun & informative.

Quaint Roman Catholic Church! Beautiful services…read more I have only been to the weekday Masses (Lenten and Easter Time), but it is truly a Roman Catholic church, celebrating a traditional Mass. During the week, people are quiet but nice. Love having a 5:30 PM Mass, so if you're looking for one after work, this is a great location! Very pretty inside; not sure how parking would be if the service is crowded. Make sure to park in the lot, as it can be tricky backing out on the street on the south side. Located just north of Shawnee Mission Parkway and Mission Road.

It needs to be shut down. It's a deceptive business. A CULT! I checked it out about 18 years ago to…read moresee what it's all about. What we discovered was VERY intense pressure to take their EXCESSIVELY expensive "classes." One fellow named Eric tried to get me to stop going to my doctor. We finally were able to leave, after a neighbor came to get us. Yes, these people tried everything to stop our leaving. It was close to kidnapping. I got home and started researching them, and discovered that adherents go into debt to Scientology to pay for those classes. Some cost $20k, no kidding! All those classes are in the quest of their sect, to get a person's mind to a "clear" state, clear of little beings named "thetans." Ridiculous, isn't it? Well I also discovered that celebrities are treated very well, pampered actually, so as to lure regular folks to join. Regular folks are outright abused, and forced to work off the prices of their worthless "classes" for YEARS in various Scientology locations. And if anyone ever tries to leave, Scientology's warped lawyers will come after them tooth and nail, trashing that person's reputation, as they did with Leah Remini. That's IF they are able to escape! Look up what Scientology did to Lisa McPherson. Scientology is NOT any type of Christian sect, so the "cross" atop their buildings is just for show. There's statues and busts of their founder, a science fiction writer all over the place. And I've repeatedly, over 16 years, ordered them to have no more contact with me. And they have not respected my orders, and repeatedly contacted me--even after I moved more than 200 miles away and changed my phone number. AVOID THIS PLACE AND THE ORGANIZATION LIKE THE PLAGUE. Because in many ways, that's what they are.

Brian has been there from almost 10 years and from "the word on the street' has helped Parkville Presbyterian become a really healthy and vibrant community of faith! If you want a larger church, with a solid theological perspective, put it on the list. DISCLAIMER: Yes, I give every church FIVE STARS not because every church is superfantablous, but every church that I will review can certainly be a FIVER to someone. I will never review a church that I would not be willing to try myself if I were looking. No need to bad mouth freaky-scary churches because they are uh, well, freaky and scary.

If you like "modern" church construction which is really…read morejust an amber-frozen snapshot of the worst of 1960s architecture, you will love this "worship space." Done in the round, which is an extreme innovation in Catholic architecture (but decidedly "normative" after Vatican II), St. Ann's doesn't really know which way it is facing. Such a dilemma was always obviated in the ancient tradition of "ad orientem" construction and architecture. St. Ann's is "too cool" for this millenia-old tradition and as such, will always be stuck in the 1960s. They mistook novelty for nobility and were left with banality. I can't stand street parking but I arrived early enough to avoid parallel parking of any kind. There is a residential street to the side and again, get there early enough. From the time I bought an ancient Buddhist text from a bookstore when I was 24, to now, I've read several of the Buddhist studies and meditate daily. I had an idea what I was walking into..as I've visited the other Buddhist temple near the Plaza, It didn't resonate with me. I've attended conferences or other events. Enter the monk event. I had to go, I couldn't miss it. I thought Rime was in Westport, it's not. It's right off of I-70 and I-35.That's a plus/plus cause of the ease of getting there from my house. There were several things going on, and lucky for me, I got there early to be introduced to the monk who was teaching the class. I found a comfortable group of people who were kind, welcoming and wonderfully grounded. They were alot like me. (yes, sometimes I'm grounded as well). The room I was in is beautiful. There are pillows for floor postures but also chairs. The alter is stunning. There's rooms upstairs which I didn't visit. They have classes throughout the week, a retreat coming up and a weekly Sunday service. On Tuesday night, they have a half hour service. They have meditation classes also. With all their events and classes, I'm excited to discover a place such as Rime.
