Miracles can happen! After a force quit on my Macbook Pro, it decided not to turn on again. Myself, Apple support and the Genius Bar couldn't get it running even after First Aid, reinstalling OS unsuccessfully and diagnostics. They essentially said good luck trying to get your data out and it needs to be factory reset. I asked a few other companies and didn't get the confidence I wanted to get this fixed. I was praying to the Apple Gods that by some miracle I could get my data out. Doug came and in less than two hours (mostly install time) it was back up and running with all my data saved. I was in a panic! Christmas card time and my Bento Box database disappeared!! Or so I thought! I have worked with Your Mac Guy, Doug Cox, since I switched to a Mac computer in 2010. He is always prompt, fair, and patient (and has great advice about films and theater in town). He also coordinates, last I checked, the Apple User Group in Fresno. This week, Doug saved my ass. My laptop refused to boot up -- dead as a doornail, except for the fan, which ran, and the power supply, which charged. Two persons at the Genius Bar at our local Apple store declared that they could run no diagnostics on it because of its vegetative state. They concluded it was a hardware problem, and because my Mac (a late-2011 MacBook Pro) had recently become too old to service, there was nothing that could be done. I was both alarmed -- as I had just spent three days on an urgent project -- and skeptical. I called Doug, who came to my home the same day. He ran through his diagnostics . . . and bingo! The laptop came to life. It runs fine once again. The Apple store staff didn't remember, or didn't know, to purge the PRAM. A routine check. I had spilled water on my laptop and went to the Apple store to see what could be done because I hadn't backed up any of my files that I had needed for finals in a couple of weeks. I was told that they wouldn't take a look at my laptop because it was water damage and that my laptop would no longer work. I ended up buying a new laptop and calling Doug to see what he could do with my now old laptop. He came over, was able to take out the hard drive and put it in the new laptop. He then tried to fix the old laptop but I had done so much damage to it that even he couldn't save it. Without Doug, I would have been completely lost.
