After patronizing about all of the chain barber shops in the area, I found one of those quaint neighborhood barber shops right here in Florence that I used to go to years ago . Jim's Barber Shop must have been a house at one point in time and you walk in what was probably the front door/porch area, into a large room with a maze of five barber cubicles to the right and straight ahead and an open waiting room to the left with plenty of chairs in case you have a long wait. The wait was minimal for a Saturday afternoon, a mere few minutes. But it was long enough to watch the large flat-screen TV hanging on the wall or read a magazine before I was taken back to one of those oak stained cubicles. The guy who cut my hair (didn't get his name) was very friendly and efficient. He took his time and it was an overall nice experience to not feel rushed amid the din of loud TVs and giggling girls. The unique thing about this barber shop is each barber is responsible for his/her own cash drawer, as there's no pay counter with the traditional cash register. As I paid and was on my way out the owner (Jim?) bid me a good weekend. I will definitely be back! read more

The comfort of an "old school" barber shop. However, they offer classic and the latest styles of haircuts. The best flat-tops in town. I get complimented and teased that my hair is consistently perfectly flat with every cut. The running joke at work is that Matt cuts my hair into the perfect drone landing pad every time. Everyone there is an old friend. I have been going to Young's Barber Shop for 24 years and have never been dissatisfied. They cut my four boys hair, also. My sons all received their first haircuts at Young's, and I can't wait until I can take my future grandchildren there for their first cuts. This is a Man's Barbershop! Having been in the military I feel I am perfectly qualified when it comes to knowing what makes a good barbershop. They have it all and are very talented. The finishing touch is the warm shaving cream and straight razor neck shave. I recently brought my 2.5 year old son in for his first cut and they warmly welcomed him. It turned out to be a challenge at first and he was slow to cooperate. The barber pushed through and did a helluva job and gained a little friend. I will always come here. Thanks Craig! read more
