As a parent I truly appreciate the level of professionalism and community that this youth theater encompasses. By far... the Best in Show all around. Questions I get often: "Kids are lip singing?" We've already seen "The Jungle Book Kids" and "101 Dalmations" at J*Company Youth Theatre at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center in UTC. I was surprised at how professional these performances were! The kid-actors range in age from about 7 years old to 18 years old. They are surpisingly very talented in acting and singing! The stage decor and costumes were delightful as well. We got a group of 20+ to go together as "Family Day at the Theatre." All mommy's and daddy's enjoyed the performance but most importantly ALL OUR CHILDREN WERE ATTENTIVE AND EXCITED! Our children, ages infant to toddler, really enjoyed the performances ... imagine that! We plan on continuing to attend the plays in the 2008-2009 Season (and beyond) and maybe later...enroll our daughter in classes (beginning at age 4). The J*Company 2007-2008 15th Season included: High School Musical; The Jungle Book Kids; AIDA; and 101 Dalmations. Next season, 2008-2009 includes: Pocahontas; Into The Woods; and Fireflies. Plan ahead! I have one more hint ... each ticket is $16.50 (for anyone older that 2). However, if you get together ALL your friends and buy 20 tickets at one time ... the tix are ONLY $10.50 a piece! Good deal! There are also student discounts available but group ticket prices are the most affordable. Enjoy!

The girl that sang with them sounded slightly off key most of the night. The show would have been much better just letting the Neil Diamond guy sing by himself. I did enjoy spending time with friends but I don't think the overall experience was worth $104.

Where do I start. My daughter danced at Jeans for 6 years. She was on their competition team and…read moreone of their best dancers. We dealt with teachers who didn't know how to teach proper technique, didn't know how to cut dancers from competition dances before comp, and didn't know how to run a proper class. The icing on the cake for us was the solo that was drafted for her to perform doing competition season this last season. My daughter being sixteen was given a solo that was fit for a 12 year old. If you cannot pay for multiple classes, 5-6 per week, then your child will not receive priority. She will not get the training she deserves and needs. Actually I don't think the instructors have the proper technique at all, as they are volunteers from the community without any proper real training and the performances show just that. Year after year we sat through two recitals (that you are forced into paying for $60 recital fee twice per year) where each dance had the same dance moves and technique, it was nauseating. The dance costumes have a markup of at least 50%. I will never forget the time I was given a $1100 bill for competition fees and costumes to be paid 2 weeks before Christmas and I was given this on 12/01. Not much of a heads up. I would highly recommend to avoid this studio at all costs. There are many more studios around who offer proper training and technique and do not price gouge with costumes, recital fees, etc.
