We've been to two other produce places in south Florida before and each place has been a bit different. In one of the places, you could also purchase some veggies (or fruits) individually. One other place was okay, but some of the products in the box were a bit past their prime. This was our first time coming to Mecca Farms. This was such an easy experience. $10 cash only. Pull up, pay the money, and they put the box in your car. Everyone was masked and so were we. There wasn't a line at all when we came -- just one car ahead of us. When we got home, everything in the box looked like it had just been picked off the vine or bush. It was a gorgeous array of colors. Our box today had: eggplant, zucchini, green peppers, Cubanel peppers, poblano peppers, yellow squash, red tomatoes, yellow tomatoes, and a pound box of strawberries. I had to taste one of the yellow tomatoes right away -- sliced with a touch of salt. It puts those grocery chain tomatoes to shame. So much flavor. After dinner, we had some of the plant city strawberries for dessert. The ripe red berries were huge and so sweet. They doing this again tomorrow should you be in the area. Mecca Family Farms is offering a drive through. They have partnered with Fresh Start Produce Sales, a grower based company in Delray Beach. When you pull up you get a menu of what they have that day, place your order, and then pop the trunk and the workers who are masked and gloved put the boxes in. Payment is cash or Venmo. All boxes are $10. There were maybe 15 cars in front of me and the line went very quickly. You can follow them on Facebook for updates on what they have and recipes so you can use your produce. All of the vegetables are locally grown. My vegetable box included 2 green bell peppers, 2 poblano peppers, 3 green chili peppers, 3 cubanelles, 3 ears of corn, 2 zucchini, 2 cucumbers, 3 Kirby cucumbers, an eggplant, 5 red tomatoes, 4 yellow tomatoes, a head of iceberg lettuce, and romaine lettuce. You really get a lot for only $10. Some of the things I am going to make are a salad, BLT's, and zucchini bread. The peppers, especially the hot ones are a little more challenging since I don't usually cook with them. If the mangoes from my tree ripen in time I will use the jalapenos for salsa. Maybe I'll make stuffed poblano and green bell peppers. I am taking it as a challenge to find recipes to use the peppers. The $10 fruit box is usually mixed but they only had blueberries left and they gave you four pints. I use a ton of blueberries so they will go fast. I throw them into my smoothies and if I have enough I have a recipe for blueberry cobbler I have been wanting to make. There are so many reasons to come and get produce. A portion of sales goes to the Restoration Bridge International, a Lake Worth charity that provides food to the needy in Palm Beach County. You are helping local farms during a time when many of them are having to leave their crops to rot on the vine due to lack of demand. Most of all you are getting a great deal that can spark your cooking creativity and improve your health. There is nothing better tasting than a fresh box of farm fresh vegetables and fruit.

Which will run you $5 for five minutes or $10 for 10 minutes. Just do it, they're perfect. There are two cows they are so sweet. They are named John and Boots. You also get to hold the bunnies for free. You get to feed the goats for free and you get to go into their enclosures and literally just hang out with goats for like 10 minutes. It's all self paced too! Make sure you try the pizza place as well it was elite! My kids spent the whole time pointing at things they saw. In the front, there is a table with paper products and pizza fixings. You don't have to eat inside though - there is also eating outside. A small backdoor is the secret entrance to their amazing backyard space- full of tropical plants, statues, some covered tables (although not covered during heavy rain). To go beyond this, you must pay a fee- to see their animals. A very old school florida spot! It was raining so we weren't able to go this time, but my kids loved looking at all the vintage things and drooling over a million candies, that it was fun just being there.

The garden hired an outside company to decorate it and I thought they did a a very nice job. My favorite lights were the plastic palm trees but I thought all of the decorations were very classy. Not all of the garden was open but a good portion was. I went in with very low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. As we strolled Christmas music played throughout the garden. I enjoyed taking pictures and getting to wring out a last little bit of the holiday season. Our visit took an hour and then we headed over for snacks and drinks at Old Key Lime House. I didn't mind the $10 entrance fee because I know it goes to support the garden. The best way to visit is definitely during the day when you can see all the plants and flowers. A new exhibit called TWISTED: Patrick Dougherty Entwined is opening in January. It was still very nice to see the garden lit up at night too. I definitely enjoyed my visit to the night garden.

The 100 Foot Christmas Tree located in Old School Square is always on my holiday must see list. The…read morelighting of the tree has taken place around the end of November or the first part of December, every single year ever since 1992! Santa always personally shows up and it attracts thousands of people every year officially launching the holiday season in Delray Beach. Every year on January 1st the tree and carousel are dismantled and packed away for next year's fun. The 3,000 branches of the 100 foot treeree are decorated with 39,000 ornaments and the top is crowned with an 18 foot high star. At night it is lit up with 15,000 LED lights. The city sets out photo opportunities around the tree and you can walk inside the tree and see replicas of four historic buildings in Delray Beach, The Sundy House, Cornell Museum, Spady Museum, and the Delray Train Depot. Each building has a holiday scene reflecting the historic building it is in. The Sundy House has animated reindeer and elves, the Cornell Museum features penguins, the Spady Museum has children singing carols, and the Delray Train Depot has a train display. While it is free to visit the tree a $1 donation is suggested. The city also sells $3 tickets at the Gingerbread House for ice skating and the holiday carousel set up outside. Visiting the tree is a great family outing and there is a parking garage next door and many great restaurants, ice cream shops, shops, and art galleries within walking distance along Atlantic Avenue. You can make a whole afternoon or evening of visiting the famous 100 Foot Christmas tree.
