As a fan of history and architecture, the Hollywood Women's Club certainly caught my eye as I was…read morewalking along the exercise path that runs along the historic Hollywood Beach Golf and Country Club across the street. Like many women's clubs in Florida, the Hollywood Women's Club was founded in 1922 during the Florida Land Boom years. In the 1920's women's clubs were formed to give back to the community. They became a way for women to get out of the house and assert their independence. They allowed women to get involved in politics and launched the women's rights movement. The Hollywood Women's Club predated the founding of the city and in 1924 they joined the General Federation of Women's Clubs. The first club members were the wives of officers in the J.W. Young Organization which was the development company building Hollywood. They met in the first clubhouse that was built on land donated by the founder of Hollywood, Joseph W. Young in 1927. Early club projects included donating hundreds of books to the first public library, holding tag sales to pay for health screenings for children, giving migrating farmers assistance with housing and welfare, getting the Miami Telephone Co. to bring the first telephone line to town, and collecting $12,000 during a war bonds drive. Today the club supports literacy programs, funds a youth scholarship, participates in the Hollywood Historical Society, supports the neighborhood crime watch, and provides financial aid to many state charities through the General Federation of Women's Clubs. The original plans for the clubhouse included an ornate Mediterranean Revival style. After the collapse of the land boom due to the Great Depression and several hurricanes the design was scaled back to a more affordable $25,000 Classical Revival style building in 1927. The building was listed as a a local historical landmark in 1985, and added to the National Register of Historic Place in 1995. Between 2012 and 2014 money was raised by the club and added to a grant to prevent the clubhouse from sinking into the sand. Other cosmetic work was also completed on this charming historical building. In 2022 the Hollywood Women's Club celebrated their 100th anniversary. During this time further electrical improvements and upgrades to the kitchen were made. Today the clubhouse is available to be rented for private events. The 1,200 square foot main event room has hardwood floors and a grand piano and can accommodate 60 people. There is also a catering kitchen. Information on how to rent the clubhouse and join and volunteer with this important civic organization can be found on the club website. If there are any upcoming events you can find that information as well. For instance they hold 2 round bingo nights for $10. The next bingo night is May 30th and they serve inexpensive drinks including alcohol and snacks. For over 100 years the women of Hollywood have been coming together to improve their local community as well as the state of Florida. Women's clubs have a legacy of helping their communities and it's nice to see that this one is still going strong today.

There are a few organizations that host such parties here (at the time of this writing, a couple nights I particularly enjoy are the monthly Salaholics and Noche Divina socials). The space itself is very aesthetically pleasing, thanks largely to the nicely done ceiling drapery, the dance floor is great, and there is plenty of table seating (with white tablecloths... classy!) around the perimeter of the floor. The parking situation perhaps isn't ideal, as flow into and out of the grass lot across the one-way street can be a little awkward, but it's not a big problem.

He took time out of his extremely busy schedule to make sure I had all of my questions answered and even set up meeting times so he could give me his undivided attention. I had approximately 130 invites sent out, note that Club Tropical can fit that many people more than comfortably and you'd still have plenty room for a dance floor. Elvis coordinated the 3-course Haitian Caribbean meal. My family is Haitian-Bahamian and the feedback was the food was spot on! I'd agree with that sentiment, the food was delicious! He took his time in going through decoration options down to the dinner napkins and what was all included in my top package. Not only decor, but the floral arrangements were included and coordinated too. He was such a blessing in helping me honor my mother's life I am forever thankful for him and his team! He exceeded my already high expectations. Elvis added extra pieces to my event that truly set it off and set it a part. My family said it will be a night they will never ever forget and they're so glad we didn't go with a traditional funeral. Special thanks to his event coordinator, Caroline, who basically waited on me hand and foot as the host to make sure I could do what all I needed to do as smoothly as possible and that the event transitioned perfectly. Joe is good to work with. But more importantly you need a great planner. Ours was Jessica G. Events. Was very disappointed in a few of their vendors, I'm posting here because they were recommended by the venue and don't have their own yelp page. Belkis floral- beautiful flowers but forgot the tall floral at the alter and the petals. Forgot we didn't want boutonnières. Very aloof when inquired after the wedding. Sagno catering: The apps were not like we had the tasting. The bruschetta was a tiny bit of tomato topping. Looked very sparse, the dates and walnuts were tiny, only saw the coconut shrimp once in the passed apps. The steak on the main course of the plated dinner was very small nothing like the tasting we had at secret gardens. Chicken Alfredo tortilini was not plated as we tasted. Everything was smaller portioned than our tasting. We did not go with Sagno for the cake since I did not like their cake. We ordered tiramisu, the tiramisu was not made with marscapone instead cream cheese, obviously cheaper and not the right taste. The Miami events- awesome all the way around! The violinist was amazing, the dance floor beautiful and great DJ. Drinks by us- great to work with but only around 8 bottles that were average brands. For a full open bar not sure it would be enough for a lager crowd. There are a lot of additional costs to the all inclusive price. I did feel a little nickeled and dimed about the early access for the brides room. 765.00 to get in the room 7:30 instead of 10. The room is empty and I thought that to be a pricey add on. Beware there is construction on the grounds and the bride and grooms rooms need some updating. All in all the wedding was amazing and like the backdrop of Secret Gardens.
