Our family had one of the worst experiences imaginable at this veterinary office. We brought our 2-year-old cat in because he was having pain while urinating. He was diagnosed with FLUTD and prescribed a pain/anti-inflammatory medication. We were told this was a lifelong condition that would require prescription food and carried a risk of recurring urinary problems. Five days later, he wasn't improving, so we brought him back. At that visit, he was prescribed an additional pain/anti-anxiety medication and a topical treatment. Up to that point, everyone had been kind and helpful. Four days later, he suffered a complete urinary blockage. We were told he would need to be unblocked at York Veterinary Hospital and then transferred to an emergency hospital for 3-4 days of hospitalization, with the total cost being several thousand dollars. Unfortunately, this was simply not something our family could afford. Before making our decision, we called local rescues and the animal shelter to see if we could surrender him so he could receive treatment, but no one was willing to take him because of his condition. After exhausting every option we could think of, we made the heartbreaking decision to have him euthanized. Instead of compassion during one of the hardest moments our family has ever faced, the veterinarian became visibly upset with our decision. Despite my husband repeatedly explaining that we could not afford the recommended treatment, she began crying, accused him of being rude, and stormed out of the room. This all happened in front of our 15-year-old son, making an already devastating situation even more traumatic. Another veterinarian then came in to help us. She explained that even if we had proceeded with the blockage treatment, there was still a possibility our cat might not survive because of the trauma his body had already endured. With the exception of one staff member, who was not a vet, our family was made to feel judged and guilty during an incredibly painful experience. No family should be treated that way while making such a heartbreaking decision. To make matters worse, we were charged over $500 for the euthanasia. These people are the perfect balance between professional, compassionate, and competent. I have been a client for several years now, and the staff as well as the doctors are always keen and responsive to my pets' concerns and my (sometimes dumb) questions, respectively. York Veterinary Services' administrative systems are very modernized, with a straightforward process to make / modify an appointment (through website, phone, or email), ask a follow up question (through text message), or order medications (through their custom website). Very poor experience. The staff were very cold and very unprofessional. When I expressed concerns about affording expensive treatment, I was told they would do the treatment and give my pet to another family. :( after paying for the procedure, my pet never recovered. I was asked to bring my pet back so they could check her. When my family member dropped her off, she overheard the technicians gossiping about how I was told earlier if I couldn't afford the treatment, they would take the pet from me. When the doctor called me about possible issues, she said she hoped that she had done a good job closing my pet during surgery and that her work wasn't the issue. After more examinations, it was determined the surgery was coming undone, and there was a little likelihood my pet would survive. I had to put her down. A very traumatic experience from the first visit, made worse by callous and unprofessional staff. I regret choosing this facility and would suggest finding another vet for your pets' needs. read more

My son and I got a dog who needed a family . He only weighted a couple pounds and looked as if he needed us. I immediately took him to this vet. The entrance to the door welcomed us with smiles and assured us they will help our little two pound dog. We saw the doc and they gave our little pet everything he needed and showed so much love and concern. We were very very happy with everyone from the time we walked in to the exiting. DO NOT USE THIS VET PRACTICE! We took our 18 month old shepherd mix, Remy here in December & they grossly misdiagnosed her. We left a review, which you can read for yourselves & chose because of the gross incompetence to file a complaint with the South Carolina Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. Once York Vet was informed that they were being investigated they started searching for the Orthopedic Surgeon we used. Contacted her & misrepresented themselves as our dog's veterinarians requesting the specialists consult notes. They are NOT our vet & after we made an appointment with a different vet practice & had Remy's records forwarded, we received a letter from York Vet stating they would no longer consider us as a client. Dr. Bell couldn't be bothered to give Remy a full exam, in fact the exam only last less then 2 minutes, but they charged us full price for a sick comprehensive exam. In the response to our review, York Vet states that Remy "presented with orthopedic clinical signs", though they refused to give us a referral to an Orthopedic Specialist. York Vet states in their response, they could not discuss what Dr. Ritter said because "(you) left without us being able to have a productive conversation". They admit the appointment was with a vet tech, so who was going to explain to us what Dr. Ritter had said? The vet tech? Office Manager? Neither are qualified to give that information or answer questions. And let's remember, York Vet is claiming they got a diagnosis from a Specialist that never spoke with us or examined our dog. So, while they couldn't be bothered to give our 18 month old dog, that was in severe pain & deteriorating quickly proper care & proceeded to blame us & our attitude, they had the time to misrepresent themselves & request information that did not belong to them to cover their own gross incompetence. Now it is up to the State of South Carolina to investigate their actions. DO NOT USE THIS VET PRACTICE!!! read more

Do NOT trust York Vet with your furbabies. Their gross incompetence regarding a misdiagnosis was so egregious that had we listened to them & not gotten her additional care, our 18 month old Shepherd mix Remy would have lost her life. Remy saw Dr. Rachael Bell for severe pain in her hind area. She had been perfectly fine & 2 weeks later could barely get up on her own. The vet immediately wanted to muzzle her, though she showed no signs of aggression. I told Dr. Bell that I thought she might have an UTI because she was licking a lot, however, no test or follow up was ever done. Other than getting Remy's weight when she 1st arrived, no other vitals were taken. The entire examination took less than 2 minutes & she only looked at the right leg. Dr. Bell stated Remy needed x-rays then proceeded to drag a scared & clearly stressed dog down the hall, while callously & dismissively chastising me saying, "if you just stand still, she will eventually follow us". She proceeded to wrongly diagnose her with "severe" hip dysplasia. I said I wanted to talk to an Orthopedic vet, no referral was given or offered, she stated "it was nonsurgical. It was really bad & would only get worse". Instead, Dr. Bell callously dismissed me with a "why". I asked that Dr. MacDonald look at the x-rays. She did & instead of informing us that x-rays were not done properly & should be redone, she instead doubled down on the diagnosis of "severe" hip dysplasia. The next 5 days Remy's condition deteriorated to the point she could not stand on her own without help or lift her head above her shoulders. I called to make another appt. They said Dr. MacDonald instructed that Remy could get a shot of Librela. We took Remy in only to find out the appt was with a tech & not Dr. MacDonald. No other vet at York, other than Dr. Bell, ever examined or looked at Remy after the hip dysplasia diagnosis. We asked to speak with either Dr. Amanda MacDonald or Dr. Ashley Goforth & they refused our request. We left after being told by the office manager, Amanda, that Dr. Goforth did not like our attitude. We made an appt for the next day with another vet at a different practice that showed me Remy's x-rays. You could clearly see that the dog was not straight & they stated that a proper diagnosis could not be given with these images. You could see, in the 1 image York provided of her knee, that Remy had severe inflammation. Remy saw an Orthopedic surgeon the day after that & verified she did NOT have hip dysplasia. Both the Ortho & attending vet believed she had autoimmune disease & should see an Internist immediately. They ran bloodwork to rule out any bacterial or viral infections, put her on an antibiotic to be safe & increased her Carprofen. The Internist verified that she has autoimmune disease & started her on the proper medication. After we sent Remy's records to the 2nd vet, York Vet sent us a letter stating they would be unable to retain us as clients given our "displeasure" with their services & healthcare team. The sheer negligence & gross incompetence shown by not just 1 but all 3 vets at York Vet Specialist was nothing short of malpractice. Their callous indifference to Remy's pain & our pleas for help were ignored, causing her undo pain & suffering. Not to mention they attempted to blame the client for misconduct versus accepting the blame themselves for refusing to listen to the concerns of the client, showing any degree of compassion & professionalism by actually examining Remy as her condition deteriorated resulting in a deplorable level of inadequate care & medical malpractice. Because we did not listen to them, Remy received proper care & diagnosis that she has a very treatable condition of autoimmune disease & will a long happy life with us. You cannot trust the wellbeing of your babies with this practice. Their indifference towards animals & their humans is unconscionable. read more

They refuse to give you a prescription for the food they recommend so you can get it cheeper online because they inflate the price so much no one can afford it. Today was my first visit to this vet. We had a cat that had gotten out and was gone for two months. After he finally came home he had lost about half of his body weight and ended up having an upset tummy. I was able to get him in today and the staff was awesome! After an exam, fecal sample and three different meds(flea treatment being one) I was anxious walking up to cash out.... oh my gosh! Under $100!!! That included a mani pedi for our other cat! Being new to the area, this will definitely be our new vet! The price is one thing but the staff is what puts them over the top! read more

I don't know what these people's problems are but I called and got a quote what needed to be done and the lady said around 106.00. I said OKAY and had to do a drop off of my pet. Vet called me told me what she thought and thought nothing of it. Well, I pull up to get my dog and she brings me the bill it went from 106.00 to 199.06 and I was upset. I think everyone would have been especially if you have not worked since 11/2020 and was only receiving only 700/month since May 2021. Well, I needed to get my dogs flea tick and heartworm medication. I usually got them there for both of my dogs for a year and had asked for my dogs' prescription. Well, that is 5.00 I said what I have never paid that before. She said order online and it will be handled. It is so sad that they want you to order their stuff which is higher, and I can get a year but beings I am not ordering from them I get a 6-month prescription for 5.00. Well, needless to say they don't want to do business with me after 3 years, but it is okay because I was not going to go back after that. Vet called me said she was on other line when I was talking to her person on the phone. She told me she would match the price from who I would get it from well Chewy for a year was 286.00 so I emailed the information, and no one replied so I called, and the story changed she told me the total price is 355.00 higher than the one I had already looked at and it was 324.00 for the year. I have recommended this place for years. I have heard lots more complaints since I put this on facebook. I am sorry to anyone that has had issues that I recommended. I am totally surprised how this people acted because of me being upset when I was quoted 106.00 and the bill was199.06 and I did not get my dogs prescription because the 5.00 I had to pay. This was my dogs first visit...she resisted being weighed but yet they tried to DRAG her onto the scales. I explained that she was afraid if the scale but they persisted only to lose. Then we got back to the exam room and they didn't have the right shots ready. I hit up to leave and explained that I had NO confidence in their service. Today was our first appointment with this vet. We drove 30 minutes to come here with 3 dogs. At the time I made the appointment I was told one person could come back with the dogs. When I arrived they told me no one can come in with the dogs. However no one in this office is wearing a mask so they must not be that concerned with social distancing...It's Friday and they said I could come in Monday....you know because Coronavirus will be over in 2 days ‍ I would have never made the appointment if I couldnt come back with my dogs especially at a new vet. My dogs get super anxious at the vet . and 2 of my dogs are older so I wanted to discuss specific treatments with the vet. One dog has several tumors that I needEd to make sure the vet noticed and discussed options directly with me. I was told the vet wouldn't come out to discuss the dogs one of the assistants would. I'm not paying hundreds of dollars to talk to an assistant and possibly have a tumor missed by the vet. It's important to be able to discuss the care directly with a licensed vet not an assistant. The assistant said Dr. Emily would come out to talk to me. But then I get a phone call from Dr. Emily while waiting in my car outside of the office. When I voiced my concerns to DR. Emily on the phone she was very rude and said she was calling to hear about the dogs issues. How can I show someone the tumors over the phone?! I decided to leave and not have my animals seen due to the poor business and wellness practices. I wouldn't trust people like this to take care of your animals. A few minutes later I received a call from the owner/ office manager Ashley. I told her my concerns and why I needed to speak directly to the vet, the response I got was astonishing. She did not address one concern for my dogs instead she said "I wasn't a good customer and I was rude to her staff." When is it rude to ask to directly speak to a vet? Isn't that why I'm there and why I'm paying you hundreds possibly thousands of dollars?! If the staff acts like that imagine how they would treat your animals. After speaking with Ashley the owner I now understand the incompetence and lack of business skills of the staff. Ashley should not be in practice. The unprofessionalism and lack of common sense is just the tip of the iceberg! The receptionist....words escape me......scatterbrained is the nicest thing I can think of. The vet "says" she microchipped my dog, but forgot to put it in the computer. She told me this after I had stood there for 30 minutes with the receptionist trying to call her to find out about the microchip and whether or not some baby teeth had to be pulled (also not in the computer) and she finally showed back up with the vet tech. My dog is still so sleepy she can hardly walk, leaving me to think she hasn't been out of sedation long at all. I am not happy and will NEVER go back!! read more

This is one of the most caring vet clinics I've ever taken our girls. We've live in a lot places and have had many dogs over the past 30 plus years therefore visited numerous vet practices. Everyone is friendly and helpful it's clear they care about your pet. Their fees are beyond reasonable as well. We couldn't ask for a more dedicated group of animal lovers to care for our fur babies!! Often times our girls are shy or a bit timid walking into new places especially our little beagle, she willingly walks in on her own. The fact that she loves kitties and there just happen to be a few that hang out in the front area likely doesn't hurt! Our girls have seen two different doctors at York Vet Clinic and we've been very pleased with them both. We've never felt rushed in or out of the clinic even when they are clearly busy as an be. Anytime we've called with questions our calls are returned in a timely manner. Clearly the folks at York Vet are in this business for their love of animals!! Dr. Ashley is a great vet! My whole family has started using her and she does a wonderful job. Unfortunately, our kitten died after his neutering surgery(allergic reaction) and we were heartbroken. She was heartbroken with us. She was so sincere, when we went to pick up our other cat who was there for the same thing she spoke with us and even made a clay imprint of our cats paw. She asked us if we would like to take him home and bury him but I couldn't even bear the thought. She immediately offered to take him home herself and bury him on a hill outside her house. And when I looked at the bill she didn't even charge us for the $300+ of surgery she did on our kitten. Yeah, you can go to any vet to just get things done but I promise you won't regret going to her. It's a personal caring experience. read more

We love York Vet. All 3 of our dogs plus our cat goes to York Vet. Actually our cat came from York Vet. She, at the time, was their office mascot. Dr. Ashley got her when she was a baby and she was a stray until Dr. Ashley took her in to care for her. Her name is Chloe. Next thing you know.. she is ours! That were kind enough to let her come live with us. To have a forever home. Anyways, we love everyone that works there. I mean ALL. My boyfriend and I always leave out of their happy and know our animals were well taken care of. Dr. Ashley always gets in the floor with our babies. She is very one on one. I think it takes more than a college degree and a title to do what they do. You must truly love animals. I can tell she is just that.. an animal person. We always get great care for our animals. Always get our questions answered. We get great advice too. They are just so sweet to our animals. The costs are reasonable. And just about what they need to be. I recommend anyone with pets/animals to make a visit to the York Vet! read more

Would not recommend. One of my dogs got a yeast infection (rash), took him in, they gave him meds, etc. the other dog then got it as well. They said must bring him back, too, so I did. Second dog got better initially but didn't go away altogether so I called for a refill, they refused and said must be seen again?! Offered $20 shampoo which I bought and it did absolutely nothing. Called again, nope must bring in. So I would need 3 visits and $20 shampoo for a rash, in hopes of getting it cleared up. Will not go here for anything at all. Sad, ripping people off. I've found a new vet and made appointments for my babies. read more
