Horrible experience. I have tried to schedule my son for a first visit with Dr. Avvocato for seven…read moremonths. I was told that she needs to review his medical records first and will be in touch. Despite countless attempts to follow up with her staff, I am always told that she is "away," "in a meeting," "hasn't had time," etc. I definitely do not recommend. The front office staff was also extremely difficult to deal with.

Our experience with this practice was, and continues to be, very strange and painful. In our…read moreexperience, they are not baby-focused, nor provide good service. We will not be going back. Specifics: When we went, they had an issue with the HVAC and the temperature INSIDE the office was 50 degrees. Despite all of the adults being bundled up, no one acknowledged the temperature, and the protocols were exactly the same - they asked us to undress our 1-year-old twins down to their diapers and to wait until the doctor was ready, and the wait was about 15 minutes. The doctor we saw was adamant that our kids should only be eating pureed foods, which directly contradicted what our pediatrician from Tribeca Pediatrics had been telling us. When it came time to do the two vaccinations, the doctor was painfully slow, and refused to even open the cap of the second syringe ahead of time, did not have the band aids ready to go, etc. so both babies were screaming unnecessarily. At Tribeca, our doctor had both syringes ready to go, and had a technique to give both shots at once with one hand to minimize the trauma for our kids. Despite sending full medical records for our twins prior to our appointment (since they will not let you make an appointment until a doctor reviews your records, and "approves" you as a patient), they had not uploaded the records into their own system so the doctor did not have any information during the appointment (while our kids were freezing). They also entered the gender of one of our kids incorrectly. Again, no apology or any sort of acknowledgment that this was an error on their part. Lastly, we've been trying to get our vaccination records from them. I called once to get access to the portal (which you explicitly have to ask for?), explaining that I was looking for records. The portal is slow, poorly laid out and looks like it was built 20 years ago. After realizing the records were nowhere to be found, I called again to have someone tell me they have to release the records separately. I asked for both twins records to be released to the portal. They only released one. Painful.

The doctors are nice however, they have missed so many diagnosis over the years. When my child was…read moregoing into school, they apparently forgot to mark down that he got an immunization because the school questioned if he had all of them. The doctor tried to look into it but could not find it. She said that she probably just forgot to mark it down. Another time, another doctor swore that my child probably had strep even though the test came back negative. Before we left, I asked about a rash he had and suddenly, they realized it was coxsackie. Another time, I asked about an issue I was concerned with for one child and the doctor wasn't concerned. 10 months later, we find out the other child has a major issue that we would have tested for 10 months earlier if the dr had taken my concern seriously and knew that it potentially had genetic implications for siblings. After we found out about the major issue, the doctors did not contact us to see how he was doing. I have reached out to them regarding this issue via the portal and they ghosted me. How do pediatricians ghost a parent? I had questions and suggestions so that other parents are not taken by surprise with the issue my son has and they ghosted me. We have seen every doctor in this practice throughout our long tenure with them and although they seem nice, they are not competent except if it's just your average check up.

There are four doctors in this pediatric practice. They're fairly flexible in appointment times,…read morebut it is a busy office and the wait time may periodically be lengthy. They generally avoid over prescribing medication, which could be frustrating for some parents, but probably is best practice for the child over the long run. When my son had an emergency illness and was subsequently hospitalized for three days, they kept in constant with me and the hospital to stay fully informed of his situation. I want to give special praise to one doctor in particular, Dr. David Costabile. He is extremely patient, listens to your concerns and thoroughly addresses all your questions no matter how minute. He explains everything in layman's terms and never throws medical jargon in your face. He has been the best health care profession that I've ever dealt with.

We feel beyond lucky to have then helping us with our newborn. Dr. Stephen is AMAZING, refreshing,…read moregentle but thorough, intuitive... and pretty darn funny, he's always a relief and an encouragement to see. We've had plenty of first time parent concerns and he's tackled them all super timely and with a way of explaining things that calms us and gives us more confidence every time. And we were amazed with Katie, the Lactation Consultant. she has decades of experience, she CHANGED our world!! we brought in our 5 day old baby and she completely turned me around with her knowledge base. I brought him in with me and nursed him with her help so that she could observe. She reframed so much of what the hospital told me generically and tailored it to me and our son based on how and what she saw. and she was spot on! he was happier, less frustrated and trusted me to read his cues correctly and get what he needed. it was an instant fix, I can't get enough of her!! She makes herself available by phone too if tou can't make it to her in person. She and Dr. Stephen are in this with you every step, honestly we couldn't have asked for more caring human beings to help guide us.

My kids LOVE going to the dr. They literally ask to go. Even if there are shots involved they like being there. When the heck does that ever happen? Dr. Nikki is more than a doctor. She is someone my 13 year old daughter looks up to and my 7 year old son wants to marry. I trust her and when it comes to your kids that is something you need to have for peace of mind. If I could give more than 5 stars I would.
