Yokohama was pretty much one-and-done for me, which is a shame. Mostly because the restaurant it replaced some years ago, though Chinese, was not bad at all, and had been one of the few remaining of it's kind with that classic sit down ambiance. I let years pass before trying Yokohama out, because there was an excellent Japanese restaurant much closer to my house, which also had lovely golf course views. But that went the way of fusion, so my wife and I thought we'd give this one a try. I don't recall the day of the week, but we were alone in the dining room at about 7:30 pm. That pretty much ruled out sushi for me, because no customers and fresh fish is an equation that never adds up. So kitchen apps it was. Of the ones we tried, the usual gyoza, shumai, yakitori, and negimaki were unremarkable. In fact, that would have summed up the entire meal from the soup to the check, if not for my entree. I ordered the filet mignon teriyaki, and my companion had the chicken. Hers was fine, but mine was off. Spoiled meat, really, to be clear. Not that prime dry aged sort of off... the kind where you immediately spit out your bite and fight not to vomit. When the waitress returned and asked why I wasn't eating, I politely explained. She was very understanding, and asked if I wanted something else, which I declined. Rancid meat works wonders on my appetite in terms of making it disappear completely. I was disappointed, but not surprised. Again, I reasoned, with what obviously appeared to be limited business, it almost seemed expected. A business on a shoestring trying to cut food costs by holding on to things too long seems like a familiar story. What pissed me off though, and wasn't at all expected, was that they left my not meal on the bill. I didn't even argue, and I don't know why. Maybe I felt bad for them. Anyway, I paid and tipped as if I'd been leaving satisfied, but I will not go back unless someone drags me there and pays. My visit would have been a little more Nagasaki than Yokohama if I hadn't decided to forego making a scene, but even though I'd be welcomed back, I'll pass. read more

Don't order delivery from here. My order was never delivered. When I called Seamless they said the driver didn't want to go back to the restaurant to pick up the food. I never got a courtesy call, an order cancellation or any type of heads up. My favorite place in Brick! Definitely a hidden gem, Yokohama has a crappy location so a lot of people skip over it. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves Japanese food! One of the best sushi/hibachi restaurants in the area by far! Most residents of Brick go to Ikko, which IMHO pales in comparison. Ikko has got the location going, the food is just any standard hibachi/sushi joint. I think yokohama is much fresher-they beat any other place in sushi any day of the week. The owners are sweethearts and will bend over backwards for you. I highly recommend the bento box meals! So much food, and such great quality! Everything always comes out hot! Love love love this place. Can't say enough great things about it. I truly hope people start to realize it! read more

A coworker and I came here for lunch because we wanted sushi and wine but ikko was closed for lunch. Neither of us had eaten here, and the parking lot was literally empty. When we walked in, they turned the lights on for us. The staff was very nice, and the service was obviously fast because we were the only people in the building (3:15pm on a Thursday). We ordered edamame and each of us got two specialty sushi rolls. We both tried the Bricktown roll and it's AMAZING!!! The other rolls were the Easter roll and the Jimmy (Johnny?) special. Everything was so delicious! We will definitely be back. Dying to try the hibachi, too. Prices seemed a little high but for the quantity and quality of food and service, it's well worth it. read more

My boyfriend and I always run to Ikko before any other Japanese restaurant because it is a safe bet for decent sushi. However, After hearing awesome reviews about the sushi at Yokohoma, I decided to finally give it a try and steer away from the usual. The miso soup and edamame was delicious to start, and the service was so friendly and fast. Maybe because it wasn't too busy, but either way it was still very nice and timely. I did not feel rushed for everything was brought out with good space in between the foods. The sushi definitely exceeded my expectations. There is a big variety, so much to choose from which made the decision hard (in a good way). I am not a big fan of cucumber is sushi but I did not even notice it in the roll. Absolutely delicious, we will be back and possibly for hibachi next time!!! Definitely recommend the hurricane roll---so good!!!!!!! read more

Dynamite meal. Came in for my wife's surprise 30th birthday with a party of 18 and it couldn't have been any better. The owners are wonderful people, so friendly and welcoming. The chef was phenomenal and managed 2 grills simultaneously while cooking for 18. The BYOB is a great touch and the food was tremendous. Both the sushi and the hibachi were incredible. I'd recommend this place to anyone in the area. The family that's owns it is lovely and we look forward to going back and having another meal with them! read more

Service was extremely slow. On a very crowded night they only had 2 Hibachi chefs for 6 tables. You could have waited 90-120 minutes to eat. Very poorly run business in terms of staff. I've been coming to Yokohama since the day they opened - literally. A few years back, I saw a new Japanese restaurant pop up, decided to stop by, and just so happened to do it on opening day. The restaurant was fantastic back then, and for a few years thereafter I'd eat here fairly regularly, even the staff knew me. Sadly, they changed hands about a year ago (possibly longer?). The new owners kept the same look and feel of the restaurant, but the food quality has gone way down. The once expertly prepared Japanese dishes and sushi have been relegated to shadows of their former selves. Case in point, the Tomago sushi (a sort of egg sushi with bonito flavoring) I got the other day was rather dry, cracking, and the texture was way off - almost as if it had been frozen and thawed. The Katsudon bowl, a favorite of mine, was just "okay" and tasted like a kind of commercialized version. On top of that, the pork was rather overcooked and stringy, tasting kind of like the pork from a Chinese takeout place. Had I not gotten the lunch special price, I probably would have sent it back. I probably should have started to worry when I ordered "hot tea" for my beverage, and was given a glass of Oolong instead of the typical green tea one normally gets at a Japanese place. A funnier thing I noticed was that the Hibachi was manned by a man of Latino origin, dressed in full Hibachi chef garb. The guy did a decent job so I mean no offense to him, but it does kind of strike me as odd when the "dinner and a show" chef at a Japanese restaurant isn't even an Asian dude. Call it wrong for me to expect that, but it kind of ruins the immersion for me. The upside to this whole thing is that the staff are pretty friendly, at least. It's a real shame when a great restaurant changes hands and becomes rather "Meh", but I think I'll be going to Ikko for local Japanese fare from now on. read more

Do NOT let the aesthetic appeal fool you. I pulled up with a friend and my first thought was wow..it looks a little run down. We walked in on a Sunday night and say down...the waitress was extremely attentive to our needs she immediately asked us if we wanted our wine bottle opened and can back with an ice bucket, two wine glasses, and two cups of ice. I looked at the specials menu first and there are SO MANY ROLLS I can honestly say I have never seen so many before . I ordered the Pink Angel Roll which is a MUST HAVE for anyone who goes there ...it is crunchy and sweet with a strawberry sauce on top ...absolutely amazing. I then ordered the Brooktown Roll and this by far was my favorite out of them all. I promise anyone who orders this no matter the pallet will enjoy it ! I ordered the Fantastic roll along with the Golden Dragon. The Fantastic was good as well. The Golden dragon was nothing special still good though. I recommend this place to anyone, some of the best sushi I have ever had. read more

I do not recommend coming here for sushi. As someone that eats sushi ALL the time I can say that this was easily some of the worst I have ever had. Nothing was fresh, especially the crab.
