I wavered on this for a few days but finally realized that it's simply never going to be any cheaper or any more convenient; that this is as good an opportunity as I'm going to get, so why not? Please keep in mind that I'm 260 pounds and do not exercise beyond walking my dogs and swimming. So today was day one of my yoga experience. Lindsey arrived on time to our office and brought everything we'd need to get going: mats, blocks, straps, music, payment punch cards and an awesome, fun attitude :-) And did I mention that she's 6 months pregnant?? (I'll admit that I felt much more confident in doing yoga with my own big belly when I saw hers!) We begin with some explanations of terms and of how Lindsey likes to teach. Next thing I know we're on the floor stretching and doing it. We are doing yoga in the middle of the day at my work... ok- pretty cool :-) As we change poses and laugh at how unbalanced we all are, I discover that I'm having some dizziness issues so I mention it out loud during class hoping it won't spell the end of my yoga opportunities. Lindsey said that was no problem, that there were various poses that would work the same body parts that would not make me as dizzy. I was SO glad I said something instead of just quitting :-) The tone of her response kept me feeling optimistic. (Thanks Lindsey!) Lindsey is so kind and gentle and patient, I felt immediately at ease with her despite the sweat dripping off my nose! I am so thankful for this opportunity to work with Lindsey. I do feel more energized today after our first session and I'm excited to go back :-) If you're nervous or intimidated to try yoga, I highly recommend reaching out to Lindsey, she can devise a plan that will make it workable for you all while addressing any issues or fears you may have.

Stephanie, the instructor, went at a medium pace and her teaching style kept the semi experienced yogi (like me) engaged and on track. Unfortunately - and maybe it's a fluke - this particular class fell into the bro-ga category. I've been assured this is not typically the case, but golly; will some diversity please show up next time? Afterward we had margaritas and I went to a brewery near Amelie's to wind down. All in all, having yoga and beer is a full on win concept. Please come try it out - provided you're willing to get bendy and relax with a drink afterward. ;)

Daniel McCall is one of my favorite yoga teachers. I've had classes with him at Yoga One, but he…read morealso teaches at Breathing Room and participates in the Yoga Meetup that happens in Freedom Park. His classes are challenging, but they are always accessible. Particularly when I first started doing Power Vinyasa yoga, Daniel's classes were rewarding because they helped me build my confidence. He teaches a lot of variations in poses, and his presence is kind of no-pressure, low key, and encouraging at the same time. I feel like I get a great workout without stressing myself out in the process, which is really what yoga is all about. Even though he's not been teaching very long, he's still one of my favorites. His explanations are clear, his assists are really helpful, and he makes you laugh at least once or twice in the midst of it all. Check him out.

I'm a rather plump fellow, in my mid 40's, so starting yoga at this point in life is no easy task. Daniel has a gift of being able to challenge you through each pose and inspire you to go further. I didn't think my body would be able to stretch and open like this. The mental, emotional, spiritual and physical benefits are quite astonishing. I'm still very clumsy after 9 months, and there are poses I don't think I'll ever be able to do, but I wouldn't trade the way I feel for anything. Daniel is really quite an amazing instructor.

I had wanted to start pole for years and originally enrolled with a different studio which fell through during COVID. It was meant to be that I came across Magnetic on social media. This is the perfect place to start as a newbie or to continue your education if you're experienced. I was fortunate enough to have Lacin as my first instructor. She's patient, knowledgeable, and approachable, with a valuable background in contemporary dance. I love taking her gentle pole classes because I'm clunky around the pole. She's also recruited a great team of instructors here at the west coast location. Her new students in North Carolina have no idea how lucky they are to have her there. Magnetic is an inclusive, no-judgement space where all who want to challenge themselves to be more can thrive.
