After 5 weeks of travelling, tons of walking and no pilates classes, my back was starting to ache…read more Yoga Studio Barcelona was the closest to our Airbnb so I booked in. The instructor was great and the style of yoga being instructed was enjoyable, had a great flow and was very soothing as it stretched out my limbs. A couple of negatives to my experience was that the website said first timers only get charged 7 Euro, but when I mentioned this at reception the staff member told me I was incorrect and that it's 14 Euro. I didn't dispute it. The other was that the yoga studio had no air-conditioning and it was the middle of summer! Is it natural style bikram?! Perhaps air-conditioning is not that common in Barcelona, but I struggled in the class's heat as an Australian who is used to warm weather. A tip on finding the business: It's in an office style looking building from the outside, and you have to walk up a few flights of stairs.

What an absolutely WONDERFUL experience here. I was in town for a few weeks and bought a package…read moredeal for individual classes. Couldn't be happier with the level of care and attention that I received from each instructor. Thank you. Seriously. Sometimes, you get lost in the routines of yoga studio that you've never been to, but here, everyone was incredibly kind and attentive. Alexandra's classes were truly perfection-- a great balance between challenging postures, inversions and balances as well as restorative pauses. I was in my first trimester and Alexandra was not only informative, but hands on with adjustments and modifications, explaining thoroughly with each change and this was a regular Hatha class, not a prenatal. It's impressive how much attention she gives to each student and how gracefully she maintains the flow and intensity of the class. Dope!!! What a blessing to have randomly found her classes! Highly, highly recommend. I also went to a few prenatal classes with María and she was wonderful too! I think it was a bit too early for me to be in those classes though, because while incredibly informative, I still didn't have the belly limitations. Great to learn for the future though-- applicable as the belly does grow Clean, spacious studio with natural light. Lockers for your belongings if you'd like (but bring a loose 1 euro to lock the door-- you'll get it back, but you'll need it to lock it up). I didn't use a lock and was totally fine. Great studio!!

Terrible terrible place. Coming from a studio in California which I loved and after reading good…read morereviews I still cannot believe how bad the place and treatment is. My first time there I wasn't instructed where the bathroom or class room was so of course I had to ask. Then throughout the class the teachers all expect you to drink water when they want and not when you NEED to. Same goes for leaving the class if you can't be there cause you feel sick, you are told NOT to leave and if you plan to do so to not come to class. People at this studio have to calm down. I understand this is your religion or something, but some of us are just here to get a workout and a stretch - not to be told to close my mouth and not drink water or leave if I want to. My health goes will always go before your beliefs, so if I feel like I need water or to leave the room I will do that when I please. It's supposed to be a stress free environment and I find myself more stressed here than anywhere else on my day. The staff must be reminded that we are the paying customers and that this IS NOT a mandatory class or a free class or am I being payed by the studio to take these classes. Showers are open like a sex club so there is no privacy which in my case is important, so I end up having to go home drenched in sweat. Also it is the same class every single day which is quite ridiculous and boring. If someone had done their job right I would've had this information prior to paying but of course that wasn't the case. I'm only attending because I prepaid some classes but luckily only 10 of them. The flooring is not suitable or built for sweat. It's just plain hardwood floor and everyone ends up walking barefoot over everyone's sweat (gross and unsanitary) and possibly slipping if not careful. What else can I possibly say? Never again.

Studio 180 and the owner, Fiona, provides quality instruction and the quaint, authentic environs of the old city. As I take Pilates back in the States, I signed up to take Studio 180's signature morning Pilates class. There were two other ladies in class with me, one Spanish speaking and the other spoke English. Fiona easily kept both languages up, in a calming but firm voice, and lead us through a vigorous but not painful hour class. The studio is on a quiet street, up a bit of a hill (pre-workout warm up! post workout cool down!), in the safe and mulit-national neighborhood of Poble Sec. It took me just 4 minutes walk up from Av Paralel and the metro stop (purple or green line, exit on the Nou de la Rambla side, near the Apolo). Really liked the tranquil feel of this small, but spacious studio. It could easily fit 8 clients, so as we were 3 it was lots of room to spread out with the props Fiona's classes provide (at no extra charge) for the class. The overall charge is a bargain at 10€ and she has packages. There are other types of classes too, but haven't tried those yet. Definitely my favorite place to workout in Barcelona and have personalized, excellent instruction. TL/dr: fitness classes in a personalized setting at a great price in historic BCN

I am disappointed to see so many 3 star reviews, so I will happily add my input…read more I will start by saying I heavily lean toward free weight/body weight training and look for facilities with classes. I did not use much of DiR's equipment besides the treadmill and free weights (I was comfortable with the weight range provided). Highlights of this gym that made me sign up here and not their competitors : - free classes - private "bootcamp" training room - private spin (cycling) room - 2 private yoga/fitness class rooms - boxing area - sauna - steam room and pool - roof top with lounge chairs The private rooms used for classes are available for personal use outside of class hours. This was a huge plus for me, as I really enjoyed the bootcamp room. Large tv screens play continuous workout circuits to follow along. Free weights, a bench and treadmills are provided in the room so there is nothing you need to bring besides your water bottle. Other positives : - clean locker rooms/showers - friendly staff (some speak great English) - reasonably priced membership - large and small towels provided My reason for 4 stars and not 5 is the disappointing pool. There is a small "heated pool" on the lower level which is a little chilly for being heated and is much too small to swim laps. The other DiR locations have lap pools, but I learned the hard way there is an extra cost to use the other DiR facilities. Pool aside, if I were to live in the city again I would gladly continue my DiR membership!

Service: 5/5 Equipment: 3/5…read more I have a love-hate relationship with this gym. People that work here are all genuinely friendly and helpful. No one gets in a way, no one gives you attitude. It feels nice. Where the gym is lacking, however, is in equipment. For a beginner or an intermediate trainee, it's not too bad. You have you standard set of treadmills, machines, some weights, stretching area. For anyone serious about training, the gym is mediocre-ish: - Dumbbells go only up to 38kg (and they have 36kg missing) - Kettlebells selection is pretty limited (there's 2x8kg, 2x12kg, 2x16kg, 20kg, 24kg) - They don't have belt w. chain for weighted pull-ups/dips - The bench press has an awkward height (it's either too high or too low) - There's only 1 squat rack And, of course, this is a standard commercial gym, which means no rings, sleds, prowlers, sprint tracks, ropes, etc. On the plus side, they have foam rollers, few bands, some heavy bags (although no full-height; kicks not allowed) and a standalone pull-up bar with plenty of space on top, where you can do muscle-ups. One more thing -- while the trainers are nice folks, barely anyone is actually competent, so think twice before getting one :/ Things I've seen: coaching someone ridiculously-looking snatch (if you can call it that); telling a client "good job" while she's doing half-good-morning-half-squat with poor form; making someone kick a heavy bag with absolutely atrocious form; making someone half-squat on a bosu ball while holding onto dumbbells; coach improper squat-like swings; etc.
