The Yoga One studio in Mission Hills is a very special place. Without a doubt, after my first outdoor class in Presidio park with Amy I knew this would be my studio in San Diego. I always feel like myself while practicing in this space... this is because I feel a comfort level which enables me to freely be myself. This is not like other studios I have visited. I first purchased a new student 1 month unlimited pass, with which I attended many classes and found my favs. Next, when the team offered a deal on the 1 year membership I decided to go all in and commit to self love by signing up. Sometimes it's hard to wake up early, especially on a work day, but I never regret an early class with Jackie or Michael. And though when I started practicing here I thought yoga always had to 'physically challenge' me... I found that my favorite class is Gentle on Saturday's with Missy. As a 20-year devotee of a not-far-away fitness community, I was able to continue with my fave cardio/strength trainer. Lucky, she's been zooming classes these many pandemic months (more than 1.5 years at this point). But yoga? Until a new studio opened in the neighborhood, i was exploring one, then another online teacher---most were fine and i was grateful for their 24/7 presences. Missing however, was the positive energy from other practitioners along with the support, structure, and feedback of knowledgable yogis. In short, i was craving a quality studio experience. A friend enthusiastically introduced me to Yoga One, and after the first class, i knew i'd found my place. In the past few months, i've taken class with most of the teachers---primarily in-studio, but also in nearby Presidio Park, and via zoom, should studio capacity be reached, or for any other reason that keeps me from joining in 3D. But wait, there's more! One of the most gratifying aspects of getting to know (especially) Amy, Michael & Missy (owners/manager) is their appreciation of feedback. Wonderful Yoga studio! I am life long thankful to YogaOne family. This is where I took my 200hr Yoga teacher program. I researched a lot of yoga studios before picking the YTT program, and this was the only (yes the ONLY) studio who took the time and effort to answer all my questions about the program, Special thanks to Micheal and Amy for that. As much I enjoyed my YTT program, I love the yoga classes here. There is a class for all levels here. The studio is very clean and spacious and Instructors are wonderful. Any level 2 class, Missy's Friday evening restorative class, Nam's level two class with some adjustments and Micheal's level 2 class and a lot more are highlights of this studio. Riza is one of my favorite instructors! She is very mindful and precise. She always gives options if you want to go to deeper into a pose or if you want less. She is very verbal and says exactly where to place you hands and feet. Reminds you not to move your hands or feet in when doing down dog. (which i did all the time) Yoga One has great instructors! I can't say enough about this place. There's truly something for everyone here. I started attending classes here almost two years ago, I also completed my 200 hour yoga teacher training (YTT) here. While I live in Los Angeles, taking virtual classes with Yoga One over the past year has kept me sane and is truly the highlight of my day. This is the best yoga studio downtown. Professional, a reliable class schedule, and they take online payments. I especially like the option to buy a class package that can be used over six months rather than a monthly commitment. I've come for years off and on and have always had good instructors and quality sessions. They provide a variety of styles from classic yoga (I'm a traditionalist!) to vinyasa and occasional Iyengar Yoga style practices (my favorite). If you are looking for a no fluff, NOT fly by night, professional studio to take classes during the work week or living around downtown I highly recommend it. Parking is a challenge and not very plentiful from this location. There is no lot and you'll be fighting for street parking or an expensive lot. It's best to walk or be dropped off. read more

A friend let me know about the $50 unlimited first month deal, and even though I have a yoga studio I love, I just couldn't pass up the good deal. Our first class was pretty reminiscent of an old lady's Jazzercise session and neither one of us were impressed. Since then I've taken other classes with Amy C (the owner), Amy Jo and Amy F (seriously? oh PS you have to be named Amy to work here) - the classes were all different and challenging. The instructors each had their own styles and all were pretty good about giving individualized tips without making you feel stupid. They have mats, blocks and straps in case you forget yours, and they sell bottled water for $1. I don't think there is really anything WRONG with Yoga One, it just really isn't my vibe. The room is set up so that everyone faces each other and it's difficult to see the instructor. The huge skylight lets in a ton of light and I prefer savasana in a darkened space. The restaurant downstairs sends up weird food smells and there are always sirens wailing by, which makes it a little hard to relax. Oh, and being that it's downtown, you have to fight to the death for parking, and then pay for it if it's before 6 pm, which is against my religion. Overall, if you are new to yoga, the unlimited month deal is great to let you sample a lot of different instructors to see what is a good fit..... but overall, this place just isn't my style. read more

First time at a real yoga studio, and I struck gold! A beginner times over (taken yoga as a college gym class, 24hrs, and DVD at home). I had a certificate for an unlimited months worth and have taken full advantage. THE SPACE: on the second floor that in July/Sept gives enough warmth to allow the muscles to stretch even more but not so much where youre practicing in 120 degree room. Hardwood floors, with plenty of light including a skylight; mirrors in half the room and textile fabrics on the other side to provide the space with some warmth. Changing rooms w bathroom and shower available and even a personal storage mat area so you dont have to lug your mat each time you come in for a session. CLASS SIZE-ranges around a dozen with plenty of time for personal attention from the instructors (and way better than the 40 people crammed into a "yoga" class at the gym) FREEBIES: blocks, straps, mats, cleaning spray, and personal cubby storage space available for your use. PARKING: meter. arrive with time. INSTRUCTORS: GENERALLY- all the instructors have their own style and range from ease to challenge to 'is it me or are people floating on air'? comfortable enough that a beginner can share a class with someone more accomplished and doesnt feel awkward. the instructors provide various options not only based on what level you are, if your feeling pain in a certain area that day or dealing with a more chronic issue or if youre simply dealing with menstration that week. Open to suggestions for any particular area youre interested on working on that day. From a beginners POV: Amy C. Mon 5:30-6:45 -challenging but amazing! this woman will have you sweating more than running a 5k and doing wieghts at the gym only you feel as drained for doing it. great way to get the week started. Wed. 530-645- options aplenty. within one week, she helped me go from bridge-challenged to a bridge machine! oh, and the crazy back spasms stopped : D Jennifer Thurs 6-730 challenging. definately for someone a bit more accomplished. i found myself taking more rest breaks than usual but the extra challenge has improved my form in positions i once thought i had down. Nickole Fri 530-645- TGIF! nickole gives a more nurturing class by candlelight (awesome) where it doesnt feel as challenging but i always leave there with a good sweat feeling relaxed and mellow. i think this is perfect after having some more challenging classes earlier in the week and just ending the work week in general! by the end of this class, im happy to end the work week, and happy to start the weekend. EXTRAS: various workshops are held all the time. I wish it was included for purchased packages, but hey, they gotta run a biz. they offer packages and discounts. BOTTOM LINE: whether im up or down for the day, it feels good after leaving the studio. I sleep better, gained more awareness in body and in general, and though i may not have lost weight (a current goal), i also feel i look better. my unlimited month is running out this week, and something in the budget is going to have to give so that I can be ready for month #2. read more

Well I researched places to practice yoga in San Diego near my hotel before I left from the east coast. I found Yoga One and I also found a Groupon. So at this point I had nothing to loose. I was only able to get 3 days in but honestly, those were the best 3 days of solid yoga anyone could ask for. I had 3 different instructors and they (of course) were all different (Researched that as well). Kairou- amazing Amy- amazing Terri-amazing (I think Terri was being evaluated during the Tuesday night class) I wish I had more time to spend in the area so I could continue with this studio! There were others I would have loved to try as well but oh well maybe next time. read more

Just moved to San Diego and took the bar exam last week so I've been needing some stress relief. I was doing regular acupuncture in Philly and wanted to find a good spot in SD. I had an appointment with Christina today and really love this place. Community acupuncture is only $20 on Wednesdays from 3-5 which is a great deal. Christina is really sweet and made me feel very comfortable. I feel so chilled out and really relaxed for the first time in weeks. I will be coming back for acupuncture as well as some yoga classes. Also heads up: it looks like they take tips for the acupuncture therapists. I didn't know this and didn't have cash on me, but definitely will next time. read more

Yoga One has great Vinyasa Flow classes and some really great teachers. I really enjoy the atmosphere (welcoming and friendly). Plus it's super convenient for those of us that often find ourselves in the downtown area. They have showers and a locker room, so you can get dressed and go back to your day. They have classes all throughout the day, starting as early as 6:30. Perfect place to get started, or to further your yoga practice. A particular teacher I would recommend is Amy Jo (there are 3 Amy's). She has a super cute southern accent and she has a great personality/ character, plus obvious knowledge of her yoga method/ style. read more

About three years ago, on the recommendation of a friend, I walked into the lower lobby of Yoga One looking for a class schedule. I was greeted by the warmest, most loving, and most well traveled couple I had ever encountered. When I found out they were the owners of the studio, I was hooked. Their compassion and good energy infuses the studio and the work they do. Now that I've moved away from SD, I'm even more bummed that I didn't get myself to class more often. I absolutely love Michael's Beginning Yoga class on Friday afternoons. It's a little tricky to get there midday but whenever I did I was so very rewarded. Michael is funny, kind, and accommodating to all levels. There was also this fantastic Monday night class taught by... Kelly I think. Unfortunately she's not with the studio anymore, but the class is still happening. I haven't taken the class with the new instructor but from what I remember this all levels class on Monday was at a nice time and was never so crowded that you couldn't have your own space. For some unknown reason I was way intimidated by Amy C.'s class and I put off going forever. For shame, for shame I tell you. When I finally did go I was treated to one of the loveliest hour and fifteen minute classes that I can remember. Pricing seems pretty standard and they do offer discounts for students which is nice. Parking can be tricky, but they are working on options and the meters out front recently got switched over to 2 hour meters so you can actually stay through the whole class without panicking. Amy and Michael also work to put on workshops and bring in specialty teachers to mix things up a bit. I absolutely recommend this studio without hesitation. Oh, and they recently put out a YogaOneSanDiego soundtrack. It's beautiful and perfect for your own sessions at home or for really anything actually. I had it on repeat during my recent travels and it was the perfect soundtrack to my day. read more

If you're a newbie to Yoga, I recommend starting out with the Gentle Flow class and then moving into any of the Level 1&2 classes. I liked Vanessa but she left on a trip to India and New Zealand. :( There are many excellent instructors though; you'll find one who's good fit for you. This place is kind of far from my house but I think it's worth the drive. When I first started taking classes here, I didn't feel like a fish out of water. There are no cliques and no pretentious attitudes here. People come here for quality yoga, not for that kind of stuff. Parking can be kind of a pain since it's street only. I tried out Yoga One after seeing their deal on Groupon. I am glad I did. The space is a long rectangle, with mirrors to one side, and wall on the other. The teachers I had there had diverse, but effective, styles which I appreciate. The students were a mix of pretty advanced students as well as beginners. I understand how most poses are supposed to look, but am not advanced enough to get into some of the more advanced things, (i.e an average yogi), and I was never overwhelmed, nor underwhelmed. Overall, because of the quality and friendliness of everyone there, I am giving it 4 stars. Parking is an issue, try parking a few blocks north of the studio, where there is more free parking, or open meters. read more

I just started the Prenatal yoga class, and absolutely loved the experience. I have always heard good things about Yoga One, and the studio is within walking distance of my house. Well, my back started aching now that I am 20 weeks pregnant, and the stretches felt soooo good! The instructor, Arati Lane, is warm, sweet and very gentle with us pregnant ladies, but she still pushed us enough to where I can feel the difference. I haven't practiced yoga in a long time, but I felt very comfortable and at home. The positive and relaxed energy makes the experience a complete joy. I am totally hooked, and I have to say, I love this place! The prices are very reasonable, and they offer discounts if you sign up for EFT (automatic payment). Are you there, yoga one? It's me, Christine. I, too, am on the $50 unlimited first time student package. I take the 430-545PM TuTh sessions, Hatha levels 1 and 2. I started on Tuesday, April 14th. My arms and legs were a good sore after Linda's and Sherri's classes. As a beginner, Sherri's session is perfect. Her style sends me back to my high school days on the basketball team and track team -- I feel like I'm in practice and it's only by the grace and belief of my coaches that I can push myself. That's Sherri -- the downward dog is really difficult for me to hold, but she talks me through holding it (and, she has us hold it for a good minute). I respond well to that. Other pros: -- The classes I've attended aren't overcrowded. -- There are mats, blocks, etc. there to borrow. -- Clean changing room. -- Clean bathroom. -- Lots of classes offered at lots of levels. I'll admit that yoga isn't for everyone. But, if you're curious and have never tried it before, give it a REAL shot with Yoga One's $50 first-student package. Don't be that person that says "I tried 1 drop-in class, and it just wasn't for me" -- that's just ignant. read more

I had never heard of Yoga One but received a package as a gift. I have to admit that I wasn't that thrilled with the location and the actual studio at first but after taking several evening and late afternoon classes, my opinion definitely changed. All of the instructors are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The classes are typically very intimate and have a positive vibe. There is no competition and the instructors are focused on making your experience enjoyable. My arms were so sore after the first few classes and I always leave feeling great both mentally and physically. I would definitely recommend this studio as it is not the crazy crowded generic studios you typically find. I visited San Diego staying at Pineapple Z hotel in May for several days and attended classes at this studio. I was fairly pleased with the instruction ( and have studied since 2001, seek what I think are best run studios and high (personal) standard for teachers since it has become mainstream, not that one can't benefit anywhere as it is a personal endeavor. Even though I'm in arts/architecture, I have had teachers suggest the training as something I would enjoy. I thought maybe this was the place as I was looking forward to a 'work' reason to return to San Diego. I spoke with Michael after expressing an interest and he sent material and processed my payment. I signed up for the Airbnb and made this payment. A month + later, he said I needed to fill out forms to be accepted. I did this, answering questions and listing the studios and teachers who had most influenced me in Taos, Santa Fe, Kansas City, Tucson, Denver. He then emailed back that I had not been accepted. It wasn't just a disappointment, I was a bit hurt and had spent $2,000 on the Airbnb which was non-refundable. He somewhat blamed it on the female teachers saying 'the girls didn't think it was a good fit' but I question if they or this was the real reason. I do wonder at times about the security of certain studios software and perhaps this relates to certain real estate 'place keepers' and their desire to keep those who might have both high security and permeability ( arts people comprenez!) away. Ignore if this is foreign, but if one knows what I mean, San Diego is only just now getting 'smart' (my home town Kansas City was google fiber pilot city so it's wired and studios some of the first screening places for security so now the established studios have very secure payment systems). I was invited to 'attend classes' ( and I reminded him that I had previously but had paid cash), but I have instead chosen to go to Yoga Vida on Island. I feel the vibe is better even if the 'hip' are at Yoga One. It definitely put a bad taste in my mouth about San Diego and this visit where I'll spend a week and see some sites, but it is without personal benefit or purpose that I had intended. I am not knocking beaches, Coronado, museums, bars, shopping etc but in urban core and alone there is alone so much of pricey 'hanging' one wants to do. The yoga training would have helped the San Diego economy with a downtown project. Best to Michaels adventures in real estate, I guess? read more

Yoga One is a popular studio and clearly has its devoted following, but it wasn't for me. I took a few classes here but just never found my 'place'. The environment felt a bit scattered all the time. The teachers are VERY nice and friendly though and it does have a "community" feel from the students that have been there awhile. It's a great place for beginners, but I never felt challenged enough in any of the classes. I took classes from at least 4-5 different teachers. I wasn't looking for an int-adv class only, but I do like it when teachers offer more challenging options as I understand there is usually a very diverse skill level among students in each class. Parking is also a major pain because it's in the heart of downtown. I usually had to get to the area at least 20 mins early and spend 10 mins circling to find a spot. No free parking around here, so bring lots of coins for metered parking. read more

I am finishing up my 200-hour intensive yoga teacher training through Yoga One. I could not be more impressed or moved by the experience. Michael and Amy, the studio owners, are not only knowledgeable but also committed to continual growth and education. Their skill is only exceeded by their kindness. The course curriculum is perfectly organized, leaving no stone unturned and no question unanswered. Training is designed to produce competent instructors and, as such, much of our time is spent doing hands-on instructional work. The syllabus is comprehensive, including extensive training in human anatomy as well as meditation and ayurveda (the "science of life"). I will cherish this experience for years to come and feel so grateful that I trusted my training to Yoga One. read more

I tried the Prenatal Yoga class on with Jennifer (who is also a mom) and found her to be fantastic. She asked everyone to introduce themselves, how far in pregnancy you were, and if you have any special requests. She was very attentive in working with the ranges in pregnancy by offering more comfortable positions, better use of the block & use of the blankets. Moreover, she was moving throughout the class to correct positions and very verbal on where you should feel the stretch and how it aids in your pregnancy. After my first experience here, I will definitely come back. The drop in rate was $15, which you just place in the little basket. Leave your shoes outside. Fill out the simple registration form, grab a mat, block and blanket, and you are set. Prenatal class is Sunday from 11:30-12:30. There is lots of downtown parking during this time. Now, if there was only a pose that could cure my pregnesia, I would not have realized that I left my yoga mat at the studio after I walked 6 blocks to my car. I teachers I have had have all been awesome. Sara will kick your ass with her tough workout, but then read you an awesome little something to inspire you while your eyes are closed at the end. Sherry will make you smile and shows you awesome ways to get into poses with the help of the wall and props, and Heather has a positive vibe flowing out of her (well, they all do, they ARE yoginis after all!) Ok, I wanted to update my review of Yoga One San Diego. I have been meaning to do this for a few weeks, but he holidays...Anyway, The Yoga classes, especially With Amy Caldwell have gotten better, if that is even possible. I am discovering more about the lengths my body will go to than in the year previously practicing. I have overcome plateaus that were defeating me and at a higher level. I owe it all to Yoga One. Amy and Melissa have both taken the time and energy-above and beyond more than just leading a class. They actually care and teach every single student in their classes, and it never ceases to amaze me at how patient and accommodating they are. - They know their stuff! Extremely knowledgeable and technically proficient. They can teach anyone from beginner's to advanced students with the same gusto and concern. - They care about the community, and not in a superficial way, but with humbleness and humility. They get what Yoga is about. I find myself daydreaming hours before my scheduled class. In this new year, there will be plenty of people who try to establish fitness and/or spiritual goals. Connecting with Yoga One has been one of the most unexpectedly amazing events of my life! In July 2020 I signed up for their 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training without really any prior experience with them. I was interested in deepening my own personal practice and teaching virtually during COVID, and the dates/prices matched up with what I was looking for. Every day during the 2.5 week intensive training we met outside at a park and dove into the complexities of posture alignment, teaching methodologies, yogic philosophy, meditation, and so much more. I loved the community my cohort formed together and we were challenged and supported in equal measure. Amy & Michael, the owners and lead teacher trainers at Yoga One, are some of the kindest, most genuinely giving people I have ever met. They have so much knowledge to share and are always down to just chat about life. I'm now on my way to opening my own yoga business and am continuing my education with Yoga One's 300-hour training this March. I love the variety of their online classes as well and the different energy each teacher brings. From restorative yoga to vinyasa, I always feel like I'm learning something new and engaging both my mind and body during class. I went to this studio for 8-9 months while I was in San Diego. All the teachers are very nice and I love the rooftop and candle light classes. Each teacher had her own style and they keep it interesting by changing the routine. The only criticism I have is that sometimes classes run over so there is no gap between the classes (officially it was supposed to be 15 mins) so there is no time to air out the studio. So if you ended up in a class where the class before you ran over then the studio is still moist with sweat and stuffy from the previous yogis - that was kind of irritating. I would recommend the teachers stick to the class timings esp if there is a class 15 mins after their class. Otherwise a great place for all levels. read more
