I've been looking to try new yoga spots and booked a class one night with class pass. Yoga deck caught my eye because of the beautiful space. Definitely one of the most carefully crafted yoga studios I have ever been to. You sort of feel like you've been transported to somewhere in Southeast Asia. I love that there are heat lamps, blankets, and other accessories for use during the class. Although, the space is epic I didn't really find enjoyment in the class. It was supposed to be a relaxing low impact yoga class focusing on slow movements but I didn't really feel that at all. The instructor was nice but I found her transitions were confusing and sometimes didn't make sense. She wasn't really saying the name of the poses either. To me the instructions felt like I was taking a Pilates class. We were also holding the poses in my opinion way too long to the point I was actually feeling pain. And some poses were really advanced and didn't make me feel relaxed at all. I personally do not like it when there are lyrics in the music when I do yoga. Although it was more mellow indie songs I found it extremely hard to focus and it was kind of loud too. I would prefer just non lyrical relaxing music. At least for the part where we just sit/lay down towards the end. In summary, I don't think I would come back. I am used to donation based yoga around San Diego. If you want more traditional yoga I would just stick to the free classes around town. read more

Yoga Deck!! I love this place so much I have to stay away. If you know what I mean. Setting things free and then coming back to enjoy them a bit at a time- type of mentality. There was a point I struggled figuring out how often to take a class with the same instructor. I found myself getting attached and had to break the cycle. I'm happy to report I did!! That doesn't mean I don't have my favorite instructors: Zach, Nam and Isaac are all just simply amazing. I've heard a friend call one of them a wizard. I refer to them as extremely knowledgeable yogis who have mastered yoga instruction. I am humbled and honored whenever I get to be on that deck with my favorites. I'm obsessed! The yoga studio I never thought I needed. First, the space is absolutely breathtaking and feels nothing short of a Bali retreat with lush plants, thoughtful Boho design, and string lights. There's a roof but the sides are open - the fresh air is wonderful. Always impeccably clean too. It's obvious that a lot of thought was put into making the space beautiful. It's so calming just being there, when can I move in? You can tell the teachers are more knowledgeable than what you'd find at the average yoga franchise. The biggest thing that had kept me from going to yoga classes regularly as a beginner is that teachers don't demo the poses, only call them out as if you already know how to do them correctly. Most of the teachers here demonstrate the movements. Cat's classes are my favorite as she shows a lot of variations for each pose, it truly feels like play time, while getting a great workout and increasing strength and mobility. I can't say enough good things about Yoga Deck. Whatever your level, I think you'll have a great experience here. read more

Really wanted to like this studio but initial impression, I bought a new members pass but was unable to sign up for classes on line so I went in person and the were really taken aback that I just showed up without signing up although the system wouldn't let me. I still enjoyed the classes and started going somewhat regularly. So much so when an event came up to go camping and do yoga, I thought "that sounds fun," I need some time away. The trip was planned for Mt. Laguna, a dog friendly campsite. I thought it would be nice to get away with my dog, hike and do some yoga. A day before the trip they tell me dogs aren't allowed and they wouldn't honor a refund. I totally understand if this was an explicit restriction of the site or in the initial sign-up but it was not. So now I'm out this money because they have poor communication and I don't think I'll be returning to the studio, I don't know not feeling really Zen when I think about going there anymore. read more

Just took the monday 5:30 and hate to say I did not enjoy it. I took last weeks and really liked it, I don't usually come on Mondays. Today the instructor kept directing us into the wrong poses and switching up poses on us, flow felt very disjointed. Wish the cues were clearer. The instructor said 3 times, "there are other teachers here who are normal"... i'm not looking for a normal teacher but I'm looking for one that wants to guide their students intentionally, not messily. I also felt like the instructor spent a lot of time joking around which at first was fun but then it became a bit much and distracting. Seemed like the instructor was more focused on chatting with the regulars during the flow. I love having a good time during a flow, but this felt like a lot, making it distracting. The joking around didn't feel inclusive. He introduced some yoga students becoming teachers at the beginning of class, and even they were chit chatting a lot and talking with the instructor during the flow. Felt like the opposite of a challenging, grounding, uplifting yoga class, more like a distracting and unaligned class. read more

LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! MUST TRY IT! We recently moved to San Diego from Dallas and have been doing yoga for years, and seen all kinds of studios and this is the perfect combination of VIBE, great classes and teachers AND customer service. The vibe is amazing because of how it's designed. It feels like you're doing yoga outside on a beach in Mexico. The studio is cleverly designed with part if it being open air. It's large well designed... you have no idea you are in a downtown San Diego neighborhood. Nice departure from "strip mall" studios. Plenty of classes and times to choose from, from slow, flow, yin.. there's a lot. And the teachers have been great. Knowegable and the classes worked for all levels. Pretty diverse crowd all ages and level ice was great. It's the right amount of woo and workout. And signing up for classes is easy on the app. It's reasonably priced (Actually less than other studios I've seen... and Yoga Deck offers even more than most) PLUS people were friendly. This studio is a must-see for its beautiful interior design and uniquely open, airy feel. My previous visits were mostly for the ambiance, though I've found that the cues during sessions can feel a bit disorganized. On my most recent visit, the ambiance felt less focused, as the receptionist was talking about his personal holidays. The conversation was very culturally specific, which gave the space more of a commune-like feel rather than that of a professional studio. I'm not interested in hearing about that or how others supposedly have "good energy," which made the atmosphere feel more casual than I had hoped. read more

I first found out about Yoga Deck via classpass. After taking Nam's class, I was hooked. I liked how different and unique each of his classes are. Some days we use sticks and other days we use blocks. No two days are the same and that's what I love about it! If you're on the fence, they do offer a free class as well as a 30 day trial for $30. I like going to Nam's and Jaime's class for different reasons. I like Jaime's class for her calm and peaceful energy and Nam's class for his one-of-a-kind class. Nam is stern but I also like that he is very energetic and attuned with the complexity of the human muscle/body! If you're on the fence, just do it! I absolutely love Yoga Deck. This is by far my favorite studio- the space is airy and open to the elements, the deck setup is unique, spacious and functional. In winter I enjoy the warmth of the heat lamps while still getting a crisp breeze and in the summer, the studio feels like you've escaped on vacay. A loving shout out to three in particular. Milica- she unifies us all with laughter (the entire class) keeping us totally engaged, and takes the time to introduce postures that are less commonly practiced- giving us time to continue our growth. Austin- whether it's an energize or alignment class, he always offers space to connect inward. I personally resonate and appreciate a class where we're reminded to co-create the experience together, and I admire his ability to guide us through conscious breath to movement and muscle engagement. Matt! has offered community hikes that are the absolute best time and in the best places around SD. We get to practice mindful walks while also getting to deepen connections with others in the community. So grateful to have a studio that hosts events that take us out and enjoy mingling with one another. All in all - the community, all the teachers, and offerings are exactly what I'm looking for. read more

Today was my first time at this studio and I loooooove it! It is sparkling clean, beautifully appointed and nice and airy. It's literally an outdoor covered deck with curtains for privacy but they still allow a lot of air flow. Chilly morning? No problem! They have a large heat lamp on the ceiling and several small heaters surrounding the studio floor. It got nice and toasty in there. The instructor was Asia and I really liked her style of teaching. The class was challenging and she gave options for students of differing skill levels. I'm excited to not only go back to Asia's class but also to explore some of their evening yin style classes with the sound healing bowls. It looks like they've got the ceiling lined with lights, I bet it's really beautiful in there! Next time I go I'll try to take some pictures, the only thing I have for this review right now is a still of the cute sitting area by the front that is a screenshot from a video I sent to my fiancé. I started coming to Yoga Deck for their new student promotion back in October last year and loved it so much that my husband and I have extended our membership with another special offer. The instructors are incredible - all the regular teachers bring something unique, and their classes are always top-notch. The deck is beautiful, and it's amazing how serene this place feels despite being in downtown SD. It's truly a peaceful escape from the city's hustle and bustle. This is not your average yoga studio! I have been coming to Yoga Deck regularly for about a year and I love my practice here. Each instructor is knowledgeable and unique, which offers many options and styles to choose from. I love that emphasis is on yoga techniques, meditation, community, and self acceptance. From the moment you step in, you feel welcome in this little oasis in the heart of the city. All the front desk staff made it a point to know my name from my first visit and were always very kind and generous. I have tried many different kinds of classes and even though I have my preferences, each class format and instructor is relevant and has its place here. I know I always feel better every time I finish a class. I also appreciate all the events and workshops Yoga Deck puts together (this is actually how I discovered this little gem during the pandemic). It does get a bit crowded for certain classes (and I think the staff could probably encourage people to better utilize the space) so make sure to get there early and stake out your spot. I participated in their $30 for 30 days deal. There are a wide range of classes for people of all skill types. They really focus on creating community, as each teacher there usually said hi to the students prior to class. Please note: the doors will be locked if you arrive late, so I definitely recommend getting there 5-10 minutes early. They are also quite popular, so you might be very close to the person next to you because the (after work) classes are generally full. I also love that the classes are essentially outside (but fenced in enough from the outdoor elements/sounds). I've been to a couple of classes that I booked through Class Pass. I also love that it is outside so you can feel the sun and wind, but still covered and heated for the chilly nights. Each instructor brings something different and their own twist to the studio. I was in town visiting my family and wanted to find a yoga studio walkable from Hillcrest, where I was staying. I took about five different classes at Yoga Deck. Each teacher had their own style and each teacher was knowledgeable and an expert in their own way. I took classes from these wonderful teachers: Grace, Bianca, Catlin, Milica and Henry. I especially appreciate that there are teachers of color who can and do show up in their authentic ways (at least it seemed that way from my point of view); I wish that was more normalized in yoga studios in SF, where I live. No matter where I stay next time I'm in San Diego, I will go back to Yoga Deck! read more

There is not a more beautiful studio for yoga in San Diego than Yoga Deck. To be outside, yet under a covered roof, is heaven. The whole design is perfect. Two very clean bathrooms and a filtered water dispenser for refills also make me happy. The parking is easy (always plenty of meters) and if you walk two blocks, there are free spots available on the street. I love all of the instructors and the class variety. I've recently added Qigong (ancient Chinese moving meditation for physical and emotional healing) to my schedule and this instructor is outstanding. I feel stronger and calmer every time I leave. read more

I absolutely LOVED the Yoga Deck. This was my go-to spot for a few months before my husband and I ended up moving for work. I was so sad I hadn't found it sooner. I've been practicing yoga for almost 15 years and this type of studio is a rare find.
