Petaluma is blessed to have yoga hell right here in town. That's what they call it at the Bikrum yoga studio on Petaluma Blvd., North The biggest difference between real hell and this hell is that you feel great when you're done. But seriously, you will not find a better run yoga studio in the world. You might find a different type of practice but not really a better run yoga studio. The owners, Jeff and Lynn, have been around the yoga block and understand what it takes to run a great yoga studio Lynn is a sought after yoga instructor and travels the circuit giving classes. Her expertise is not missed here. The studio is kept very clean, has really nice showers and staging area. The teaching staff is consistent, well-qualified and very good. I have noticed that the studio takes an extra effort to welcome new yoga practitioners There are other good studios in Petaluma but this one one of the best in the world, if you're into Bikrum style yoga It's got a colorful decor with wild colors and funky music. Okay the music little out of place but that's the only bad thing I'm saying If you've never been to a yoga studio or even in Petaluma. Yoga hell is a good introduction to yoga or A great place to create a regular practice They only practice Bikrum yoga which has its pros and cons. That could be a whole different discussion But if you want to good solid yoga practice this is your place. read more

OK- So I have never taken the time to write a review online! This studio has been the most amazing thing I have done for myself in a very long time! I do not like the heat, not a fan of yoga, but I am completely in love with this yoga studio!!! From the amazing instructors to the welcoming professional staff, I have found a true community in Petaluma. I am not "good" at this practice yet, and the each instructor fosters your own development and supports your own goals! The owners have mentored/hires their staff to compliment one another and I honestly cannot say who is my favorite yoga teacher- they all are amazing! Going to this studio is not inexpensive, but my husband ( who is also hooked) and I have found a way to make it work because our health is most important! They have daycare three days a week- so if you have little ones- you can still hit your three classes and it makes a difference. I have no idea how much weight I have lost, but the inches have melted away, and I can now keep up with my full time jobs, two kids, and typical hectic Petaluma mom life! I was pleasantly surprised when I stepped into the world of BYP. I had done other types of yoga but was mostly doing a more high impact workout. Bikram is the perfect combination of the two, it's low impact but focused and an intense 90 minute total body workout. As for the studio, it's a bright, quirky, unpretentious place. As soon as you come through the door Letitia is there to give everyone a big welcoming smile and hello, no easy feat since it's 5:45 in the morning!!! Before class there's always great music playing so it makes me instantly happy, and helps wake me up :)) They've got a great set of teachers and often have visiting instructors so there's a chance to experience some new personalities. And yes, not every instructor is going to be everyone's favorite, but that's natural. There's enough variety in this roster to pick and choose your classes. As far as I'm concerned the place is always spotless and not smelly AT ALL. The studio doggies are sweet, calm and unobtrusive, and as a dog trainer that's high praise from me. read more

I've been practicing Bikram Yoga for 3 and 1/2 years now. For the record I never practiced yoga prior to Bikram so I went in as green as you can be. I've loved this studio from the beginning. The owners are well established in the Bikram Yoga world and this isn't their first rodeo. You can tell that they pour their heart and soul into this studio. They care about the environment they've created, they care about the teachers, and they care about the students that practice here. Since starting Bikram Yoga I've had the privilege to practice at many studios across the country as I occasionally travel for work. I've been to great and not so great studios and in my opinion Petaluma is one of the best. I have to mention the showers... They are the best. There is nothing better than these showers after a 90 min 105 degree workout. Also, owners, teachers, and students at this studio love dogs. If your weird and you hate dogs... then you probably wont like this place. Chester is amazing. read more

I haven't gone in a couple of months but am thinking about going back. I went for a couple of months in the winter of 2012-2013, and this experience really helped me get through a difficult time in life in a very healing way. The yoga moves in Bikram yoga seem simpler and easier to master than other yoga classes I've taken, although coupled with the 104-degree heat, you're very challenged to stay focused. Bring water! And start slow; I got very dizzy the first class because of the extreme heat and had to step out for a bit. You feel purified when you leave, that's for sure! :) It is VERY important to stay hydrated and drink a LOT of water in an ongoing fashion when you're a Bikram regular. I know a few people who ended up with bladder infections from the dehydration of this type of yoga, but I think if you are aware of the importance of drinking lots of water, it's fine. ... I have been practicing at BYP for over two years. When you practice at this studio you can't be afraid of the smell of sweat. That is what we ALL do when we are there. There is no way to rid the smell of sweat, sorry. I would rather smell sweat than perfume or air spray. And people are offended by the dog smell? Seriously? I bring my 9 year old daughter on occasion and her favorite thing is playing with Chester and Lambchop and Jackie's doggies. People, if you are freaked out by sweat and smell....don't do to Bikram yoga ANYWHERE. And once, I went to a place with hardwood floors. I slid all over the place. The owners Lynn and Jeff are known around the world for their expertise. Not to mention, the practice has changed my life in so many ways I would bore you.But, I am a 51 year woman who feels 35....thank you Bikram. Thank you Bikram Yoga Petaluma! read more

I've been to a good handful of Bikram studios and I love this studio because it is fun, friendly, clean, and serious about Bikram. Sometimes the "serious about Bikram" part gets way out of hand at other studios, but these people here are simply devoted, and did I mention they're fun and friendly? :) The studio itself is very colorful and upbeat and even though there is a carpeted floor in the hot room, which usually isn't my favorite because it gets slippery and tends to smell, it's still pretty clean. If I didn't live in San Rafael I'd make it my regular studio, for sure. This is a great place to go to know that you'll be taken care of and get a great workout. Don't let the whole "Yoga Hell" thing scare you off (it did for me for a long time) - that's just their way of being fun about it. read more

Bikram Yoga Petaluma is an amazing place. Not only does everyone there make you smile and feel extremely welcome, the instructors are all incredibly helpful especially to beginners. Everyone takes their time to make sure you loving it. The studio in itself is extremely clean, sanitary, and calming! Plus, you get to see cute doggies every time you walk in that are SO friendly I want to take them all home with me!!! This beautiful studio has taken over my life in a good way, I can't wait to go back every day! And the student deal, $99 for 3 months unlimited is a better deal than anything Ive ever heard of! I took a break from yoga when I had my son and was dying to get back into my practice. I had a friend tell me to come and check out bikram yoga petaluma (I drive by it every day for work) my first class launched me right back into loving bikram yoga. The instructors are amazing and the direction is on point! I go to there 1hr noon class Mon,Wed and Fri it fits right into my day and has become my religion. How could I possibly write a review with only 85 characters? In one word Yoga Hell is "amazing!" I've been coming here for about eight years and not sure why it's taken me this long to write a review. If you're looking for an awesome workout whether it's a Pilates class or a Bikram class, prepare to sweat A LOT and walk out feeling amazing! Did I mention the instructors?! Such a fun and energetic studio with a great vibe. They have something for everyone. Hard core hot pilate classes with and without weights and more gentle yoga classes including Bikram 90 min, Bikram beats/60 min with music, Yoga with a twist focusing on alignment and posture and Bikaysa, one of my favorite classes combining Bikram and Vinyassa flow yoga. The only thing they don't offer that I keep hoping for is a weekly Yin yoga class. This addition would complete my practice. Give it a try and sweat it out! I absolutely love this studio! I started coming this year, and they've been nothing but amazing from the start. Not only are the classes fun and energizing, but the staff has also been super supportive--even through my medical leave. They've got an awesome mix of yoga and Pilates classes that keep things fresh. I started with Pilates, got totally hooked, and now I'm diving into more yoga classes. This is one of the best run studio's on the planet. Seriously, it's clean, has good hours and the people are nice. Nice outdoor showers. A really good example of how a studio can be. If your'e just visiting town you will be treated well and have an amazing experience. The teachers are all super qualified and they are dedicated. I had tried a couple of classes in the past & always had the idea in the back of my head of joining the studio. I finally decided to dive in and join with an unlimited membership starting in November. BEST DECISION EVER! As a former college soccer player, the classes are no joke & you will sweat your ass off (specifically the pilates classes... MY FAV). I am not only becoming more flexible, but it's also showing me how to deal with stress better because of the breathing exercises and calming environment. Really the BEST studio for it's consistent heat to airflow ratio....i never feel like I can't get oxygen, like some other older studios. And the temperature is pretty much kept consistent....Not 112 and not 99.....count on it to be 107! The decor is upbeat and fun which helps psychologically, because, Bikram is such a focused and intense practice....humor and levity really help keep one relaxed and smiling even when you are in hell. read more

Yoga hell is just amazing. The positivey and support of the teachers and community is so empowering. There are many different types of classes and the heat feels incredible, but if you're not up for that, they have online live classes as well. I love the hot pilates and bikyasa.
