The community here is fantastic! Completely non-judgmental, full of fun, down-to-earth people, and instructors who somehow make suffering in the heat actually enjoyable. I've been coming for 3 years now, rotating between hot Pilates and the classic 90-minute Bikram class (a true test of body and willpower). I started coming because I wanted to find a community that shared my values of health, fitness, and wellness. When you first walk into that hot room, it can feel intimidating, like, "Wait, I signed up for this on purpose?" But trust me, everyone starts somewhere, and you'll quickly realize you belong. Lynn and Jeff, the owners, are legends who have built something special with their three studios (Petaluma, SF, and Berkeley). I go to the Petaluma location. The vibe is great, with lots of friendly faces and the kind of heat that makes you question your life choices for 10 minutes and then thank yourself for the rest of the day. The music is always on point, and I much prefer the darker room with the disco ball and colored lights over a brightly lit space--it creates such a great vibe. The inferno Pilates classes are intense in the best way and challenge me every single time. The hot Pilates teachers are amazing and the classes are so fun and super challenging especially the weights classes (shoutout to Janis, Jacquiekay,Sarah, Ericha and Joc!) . I'm more of a yoga girlie and Lynn is the ultimate yoga teacher. She knows everything if you want to deepen your practice or have any questions. She knows the practice in and out and is such a heartfelt and caring teacher but is also great at knowing how to challenge you. If you're that curious person who's driven by this studio a hundred times and wanted to stop, this review is for you. That was me for literally a decade. I found every excuse to not give it a try and even sat on a month unlimited gift certificate for an entire year before I pushed my fear aside and walked in. My only regret is waiting as long as I did. It's always intimidating to walk into a new fitness studio for the 1st time. Of the handful of times I've done this, Yoga Hell was the most comfortable environment from the get-go. If coming for the 1st time, I would recommend coming up to a half an hour early so you can take your time getting familiar with everything. I cannot stress enough how absolutely lovely the entire staff is, or how special they will make you feel. Let's talk classes. Try them all! It's the best way to find out which ones are your favorite. Your current fitness levels won't be a problem. You'll be able to blend in and go at your own pace. Trust me, nobody is watching or judging. They will be too busy with their own practice. I have a shoulder injury and do a ton of modifications to accommodate my abilities, I've never felt awkward about it. You'll quickly find your rhythm. I also recommend signing up for a month unlimited to really get a feel for it. For myself, I didn't enjoy my 1st class but I came back and tried something new and I was HOOKED! If I had judged off only 1 class, I might not have returned. So seriously, try them all! You'll also grow to love and appreciate each teacher individually. My new yoga place! With so many classes that range in difficulty and class times, I feel like I have enough options to fit it into my very hectic life. I've easily been able to make modifications during class and with the unlimited if something comes up I don't have to pay a fee, which is great! The Bikram beats was so much fun, with lights and music bumping, I felt like I was at a dance party. The inferno hot Pilates challenges me that I feel it would be easily to see changes because of how intense it can be.
