2-1/2 years ago, I had never done yoga and a friend of mine had been telling me for a couple years that I should join her at BYP. I finally gave in after a promise of a dinner out afterward and an evening sans children. I felt completely fried after the first class but also somewhat euphoric. I knew immediately that this type of exercise was going to be great for me as I have osteoarthritis in my hands, shoulders and hips. I've since tried other types of yoga in different studios and have found that, not only did other types of yoga hurt my body, but that the studios felt impersonal and the students seemed ostentatious and judgmental. This studio is decorated in a fun and comfortable way and all the people are extremely non-judgmental and friendly. Since day one one at BYP, I have been welcomed warmly. All the instructors have been helpful both in class and out in assisting me in improving my postures and practice. The instructors regularly give individualized attention to the students in classes addressing them by name and giving helpful suggestions of how to improve their postures. The major complaints about BYP that I've seen in these reviews have to do with the smells and particularly the dogs. I'm not necessarily a dog person so I was a little bothered by the dogs at first, but they are such sweet animals that they kinda grow on you. As for the smells, I have exercised in gyms all my life and have yet to find any place where people actually sweat that smells like flowers. This studio is always clean and the carpets are professionally cleaned on a regular basis. The smells are not any worse than ordinary. The people, the atmosphere and the mental and physical benefits that this studio provides, far exceed any aversion to dogs or the smell of human sweat. I really love BIKRAM YOGA PETALUMA! read more

Best decision I ever made. I started practicing at BYP in February and have since converted most of my coworkers to Bikram as well. BYP is the only place I can go where I completely disconnect from everything and everyone for 90 precious minutes. After completion of a class I always feel like I can tackle anything that crosses my path(Figurativley & literally speaking.) This past year has been a really rough one for me, but finding BYP helped me to regain the balance I had lost in life. This studio in particular is really bright, fun and homey. I LOVE it here! I have tried Bikram at another place, but it definitely did not compare to the environment here. No your usual Bikram Studio...Lynn & Jeff, owners of the studio, and their staff, really know how to make you feel part of the community. they greet you by name upon arrival, check in regularly to see how you're doing. Lynn's truly a master Bikram instructor, she encouraged me to push harder to build a better practice. the instructors for hot pilates, fit-flow, and yin yoga are also top notched, and soooo much fun. I used a Groupon to try out the studio, was so impressed that i signed up for another 2 months, another special. The studio is funky, including furnishing, lights, music, a shoe island, and outdoor showers... while all that was somewhat of a distraction, i soon found it to be good distractions. the studio offers a variety of classes. my practice was primarily limited to bikram, but after trying the different classes offered, i found the variety to be an excellent regimen for the body and mind, there's never a dull moment Bikram Yoga Petaluma. read more

I wanted to give hot yoga a shot but was unsure since I've never even done regular yoga. The staff and teachers have made me feel really welcome and not at all out of place. I've really enjoyed all the different classes and signed up for the unlimited 90 day offer for new comers and it's been so worth it. I've been burning more calories here than I normally do at the gym or when I'm out doing other physical activities. I've lost some weight and been firming up and I am hooked. I really like it at the studio and have tried every class they offer. Inferno pilates is killer and so is Bikram Beats. I highly recommend dropping in and trying a class to see for yourself! read more

I mean no disrespect, but this studio was NOT for me. After being a member at a yoga studio in Marin, I tried something closer to home, but this was a poor fit. I didn't like the bright fluorescent lights on all class, the smelly floor, or the instructor on blast over a microphone. The blasting music in the entry and several people going in and out of the class was also a very new experience for me. While I know Bikram isn't the most meditative form of yoga, this environment made sure of that for me. I love Bikram yoga, but even after paying for a month I couldn't bring myself to return. I know a lot of people who enjoy this yoga studio, but it just isn't for everyone! read more

This is one of my favorite places to get a great work out in! I was definitely in the best shape of my life when I was a member of Bikram yoga. This place is great. I love that the instructors walk around during class and help you with the different poses (I've heard that other places are not so good with that). I would have given then 5 stars, but the only bad thing is that they only have one class on Saturday mornings. I wish they offered more classes on Saturdays. :o( read more

I have been going to Yoga Hell in Petaluma for over a year. I went this morning and it was pretty difficult. The room makes you sweat and the music is energizing. I feel the rates are a little pricey but this studio is completely different from any other workout place ive been to in Petaluma. It's a funky vibe and you will definitely be sweating. My first visit to BYP was just about three years ago during a trip home for the holidays. I've since moved back and have been attending BYP on a regular basis for about two years. I cannot speak highly enough of the teachers and staff; they are charismatic, knowledgable, and all-around good people. The studio is clean and well-maintained. If you aren't a dog person... well, why aren't you a dog person? All yogis should be dog people :) Overall, BYP is an amazing studio, whether it's your first class or your 500th. I first came to this studio when visiting for 3 months from the UK. I absolutely love the vibe, energy and wonderful teachers they have. I had never done Bikram before but it didn't matter as there are many levels in the classes. I love this place and am now back for 3 months and cannot wait to get back to the studio. I hadn't ever done yoga until I started coming to Yoga Hell about nine ten months ago. I've been going three or four times a week ever since. The instructors are very supportive and knowledgeable, the owners are great. I've asked for advice, and each time folks have spent time with me to tailor the instruction to my physical limitations (at 58 years old, believe me, I appreciate that!). The studio is comfortable and spacious, the showers are great (sort of outdoors, but very private). Best of all (not really), the studio is decorated with paintings by humorous children's illustrator and author, Mel Renfro, (owner Jeff's father). I've been practicing yoga on my own for years. I never wanted to go to a studio because of the negative things I'd heard from friends. When one of my friends (who has been going to Bikram Yoga Petaluma for 2 months) treated me to a drop in class Friday after Thanksgiving, I expected the worst. I was so wrong. I joined after my drop in class and I've been going every day! I love the studio, the instructors, the front desk staff - I love everything about this place! I'm not the kind of person who likes the heat of sauna's or even hot tubs, but I do love the heat of Bikram Yoga at this outstanding studio! A friend and I were staying at the KOA campground for Memorial Day Weekend and wanted to keep up our practice so we came here. They were very kind and gave us a discount for purchasing 4 classes. We went on Sat and Sun am and both instructors were great and stuck to the dialogue which is one of the things I like about Bikram. No matter where I go it is for the most part consistent. It is a fun and quirky studio with changing rooms, bathrooms and showers. Instead of pictures of people in the different poses around the studio, an artist has done cartoon caricatures of people in the poses. The same artist has done other artwork around the studio. Their nickname is Yoga Hell, and you can purchase various items with that theme on it as well as things without it. I bought a new bottle. read more

Bikram Petaluma is an awesome studio with a welcoming staff, clean/evenly heated room, and nice outdoor showers for after class. The studio also has cartoon depictions of the 26 poses in the room, so I know what is coming next, and how much longer I have to survive! What a wonderful team they have at Petaluma Bikram. The instructors are insightful and quickly learn your individual strengths and challenges. If you want a place to hide out and do a mediocre yoga workout they are not the place! The teachers give personalized instruction and are genuinely interested in your success. If you have children, they are encouraged to participate as appropriate for their age and maturity. The facility is very clean and well laid out. They have props in the studio if you need to modify an occasional pose and there is also a cute boutique in front with great yoga gear. When I walk in I feel like I am with family. read more

I walked into Bikram Yoga Petaluma three months ago - a lifelong 61 y/o runner with a bum foot - having no prior yoga experience, a not-so-flexible body and considerable anxiety about what was coming. Within the first 15 seconds I was greeted by a regular who welcomed me with the words, "Congratulations! You've just changed your life!" What followed was probably the most challenging physical experience I've ever encountered. I hung in there and, though I can't say it's gotten easy, it no longer decimates me. As I'd been guaranteed I soon began to feel lighter, stronger, calmer, more confident. Though each instructor has their own style, all have been nothing but encouraging and enthusiastic and kind. The bum foot has healed and I am able to run again. But I will now alternate my runs with regular visits to Bikram Yoga Petaluma. NEVER would I have predicted that I would become a devotee. But Lynn and her excellent team changed my mind, my body and my spirit...for which I'm deeply grateful. read more

Bikram Yoga is a beautiful studio that is meticulously maintained. All the staff will get to know you by name quickly you you will feel right at home. Lynn is literally a world-class teacher and it shows in her and all that teach at this studio, regularly or as a special guest. They have day care available and friendly dogs too. It's the best studio I've been to and the only one I go to for Bikram yoga. I pretty much hate yelp and yelpers but, I'm signing up to post this because Bikram yoga Petaluma deserves a shout out from me! read more

Okay... So I bought a Groupon for this place since the reviews were not bad... The place itself is nice BUT being a "pet friendly" environment someone had their 300lb Great Dane in attendance... The entire place smelled like dirty dog. So lets go ahead and factor in the 100 degree temperatures that go along with "hot yoga" and it felt like my nasal passages were being violated to the point of no return. The entire experience was appalling due to the horrific scent of dog. Also... I was NOT a fan of the "felt" hardwood floors in the studio itself. I tried with all my being to not move off my towel and touch the floors which I could only imagine were soaked with gallons of other yoga enthusiast sweat... I ended up leaving before the class was over because the overwhelming desire to filter fresh air into my sinuses. I just wasn't feeling this place at all. I'm a huge animal lover and would love to drag my pets everywhere but sometimes it's just not appropriate!! read more

This was my second visit to this studio, and I am still unimpressed. I understand there are different forms of Bikram and you have to choose what's right for you. More discipled v. More laid back. I don't mind discipline but Bikram is a place to feel strong and get centered for me. I DO NOT like the pushiness of the staff and owner, and the sales pitch you get as you walk in. Both times I was uncomfortable and felt chastised. The owner was over selling himself and basically has the behavior of a used car salesman. I finally gave in and bought 5 sessions. After feeling uncomfortable and having my vibe ruined I don't care about the classes I have left, I will not be returning. read more
