I've been practicing Bikram yoga for 15 years, and I've practiced in San Francisco, Portland,…read moreSeattle, New York, Fresno, The desert in CA, and Hawaii. This studio, at least three out of the four classes I took while I was visiting San Diego, was by far the hottest studio.
There is no ventilation at all during or after class, which, for someone like me, isn't necessarily a bad thing. I like it HOT, and I'm often thinking, "Enough with the fan/door/window" when instructors use them too much. I dont go to Bikram yoga to stay cool. However, this studio could use a few moments of respite during the 90 minute class.
The thing that surprised me the most, however, was that it seemed perfectly acceptable for people to leave class. That's a no-no in Bikram, usually. People wandered in and out for the entire 90 minutes, and they even showed up late, setting up their mats and towels halfway through the opening breathing exercise.
The instructors were all pretty good, and the first three were all more 'old school Bikram', which I like. The fourth was a woman who kept the room MUCH cooler (way too cool for me) than the other instructors and her teaching was quiet and repetitive, lacking much of the normal dialogue. The last thing I'll say is all of the instructors' "minute long postures" were about 30 seconds.
The studio is huge, there are nice (communal) showers, lockers, and overall, I really enjoyed practicing at this San Diego studio. I will be back.
