If you're looking for one of those authentic, hard to find, Filipino bakeries, look no further... My grandfather used to take me to this bakery as a kid and it has been the scale I use for judging steamed pork buns ever since. In my 30 years of stuffing my face, this bakery I will always hold near and dear to my heart. We used to fight over (and still do) who got the last bun from the coveted pink box tied with gold twine. Each bun is filled with succulent BBQ'd pork, enveloped in a light, fluffy, and warm bun. Her rice cakes are pure perfection. Each one lightly sweetened to where you just can't stop eating them. Beware though! She only makes so many each day, and closes shop when she's sold out (which happens quickly!!) Call ahead to reserve your buns ahead of time, and make sure to bring cash. It is CASH ONLY!!!

Perhaps I am too cheap and/or used to the typical asian bakery prices, but I thought this place was expensive for what it is and medicore. I got a steamed pork bun for $1.75 and it was pretty small, about the size of a dinner roll. The filling was unique. It was like the dried pork you eat with porridge, but very moist. I guess it was alright, but I'd rather get a char siu bao that you can get for .75 at most asian bakeries... The other items were around $1.35, but all for a small piece. It didn't look too appetizing to me. It included sesame balls (the ones you get at dim sum), shu mai, hai gow, rice crispy looking item, and some cookies. By my calculations, most dim sum places give you 4 shu mai/hai gow/sesame balls for $2.20-$3? For 4 of those here, it would cost $5.40? Pricey.....

As I was riding my Bicycle South towards Nena's #1 ( http://www.yelp.com/biz/nenas-restaurant-no-1-stockton#hrid:9chOpyq2O8m22B7hP4_ozA ), I passed by the Filipino Center Plaza and noticed Foo Lung Market ( http://www.yelp.com/biz/nenas-restaurant-no-1-stockton#hrid:9chOpyq2O8m22B7hP4_ozA ) in that Center. My mom used to shop at Foo Lung a long, long time ago. I wanted to check out their prices for 20lb bags of Rice and maybe some Hot Chili Sauce. Before that could happen, though, I spied Yet Bun Heong Bakery. Yet Bun Heong has been in Stockton eighty years... yes, that's right 8-0 YEARS. There are enough plaques on the right, behind the sales counter, given to the owners of Yet Bun Heong by the City of Stockton and the State of California congratulating them for their longevity, that can attest to that. And, if you ask the daughter of the owner, Cheryl, she'll re-affirm that - 40 years under grandpa, and 40+ under her dad. Her grandfather started this Bakery which is now owned by her father (who, BTW, is not in good health) and I guess she'll inherit the business. But, after her, there is no one in the family that is remotely interested in running a Bakery... she does not have children, and her nieces and nephews are not even interested. Prices for the Baked and Steamed Pork Buns (**** 1/2) have risen to $1.50 since Adam R has visited the Bakery. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, else is just a Buck. New items added since Adam Rs visit... Rice Cakes - Sweet Rice squares, similar to Bico, without the Coconut and Chocolate flavor. Rice Puffs - (aka Rice Krispy Squares) Sesame Twists - Crispy and Sweet. Shrimp Chips - Chinese Chips with Shrimp flavor. Almond Cookies (****) - 3 3" round cookies in a cello bag. Don't go comparing Yet Bun Heong with Qiang's ( http://www.yelp.com/biz/qiangs-bakery-stockton )... they're really not in direct competition with each other. Yet Bun Heong reminds me of Dim Sum that my own mom would make at home or at a Chinese restaurant 20 years ago. After conversing with the daughter, it seems Yet Bun Heong's customer base are long time Chinese residents in central Stockton. I bought enough Dim Sum items to fit into a 6" x 9" styrofoam container. Ate some of the stuff at the tables in the center of the Filipino Plaza. Couldn't ride around Stockton carrying this container underneath my jacket... so had to ride back to Lodi immediately. I asked Cheryl what Yet Bun Heong means in Chinese... "One Fine Aroma"! How appropriate. I never, ever, did get to Foo Lung Market. Maybe next time. Until Yelp updates hours: M-T-Th-F 10am - 3pm Sa 10am - 1pm W - Su CLOSED Ca$h ONLY.

I loved this bakery so much when I was a kid. The steamed pork buns were my absolute favorite here, and it was always a treat when my mom came home with a pink box full of them. I haven't had them in more than 20 years, so it was time to make a visit. The bakery has not changed at all! It looked exactly how I remembered it, and the displays also still looked the same. The daughter behind the counter was as sweet and friendly as I remember her, and I was happy to hear that her father was still around and doing well. I was, however, disappointed to find that the taste of the pork bun wasn't as good as I remembered it. Did the recipe change? Either that or my taste buds have changed in my adulthood. I also wasn't a fan of the pork and shrimp dumpling or the sui mai ("pork & shrimp ball" and "pork meatball"), and I've had a lot of dumplings and sui mai in my life! Everything is a bit pricey for the quantity of food that you get, and if it was tastier, I would say it was worth it. But it's not. I really want to give this place 5 stars because I do still adore this bakery and I have many fond memories of it (and like Glen L., for tradition and respect), but the food wasn't as delicious as I remember.

    Mmm! Pork buns!

I'm so happy because I got my cheesecake today and it's absolutely freakin amazing. It's everything…read moreI was hoping for and more. I used to get my cheesecake fix from a restaurant in Woodbridge that made it homemade and it was very good, until the restaurant was sold and the new owners aren't continuing to sell it. Well I shouldn't say they aren't selling cheesecake because I'm not sure if they are or not, but I was told the homemade cheesecake will not be available from now on there. So I've been looking high and low, from city to city and going as far as Modesto to find a replacement. I wasn't satisfied still so as I visit new areas one of the 1st things I always check on 1st is if there is a local place that has the "best" cheesecake. I've come across some decent cheesecake but I still hadn't found one as good as my favorite cheesecake in Woodbridge. That is until I came across Jennifer. I was searching on Yelp once again and came across her Yelp page once again and thought it was time to take the plunge and contact Jennifer to order one of her cheesecakes. I hadn't called her yet because there wasn't a reason for me ordering an entire cheesecake and felt like it's a bit much to order myself an entire cheesecake. But after so many failed attempts I felt like it was time, after all maybe I can freeze it for future cravings. I let her know I love crust and was requesting a thicker one. She ended up asking me if I wanted my cheesecake to have a crust on top so that way I'd have crust on the top and bottom. I told her it sounded good and I really appreciated the fact that she took into consideration what I told her I liked. So today I got my cheesecake and I couldn't be any happier. It's creamy just like I prefer and there's definitely a lot of good crust. I'm so happy to have found Jennifer and look forward to getting more from her in the future. From what I saw on Yelp she makes really good treats. If you're looking for great cheesecake or other desserts you really don't need to look any further, I'm positive that you'll be more then happy with what you order from Jennifer. She's also very friendly and of course accommodating obviously. That's better then any bakery I've ever went to. There's nothing better then getting the exact dessert that you've been craving. Happy cheesecake eating to me. Bon Appétit

While we usually skip the cakes, the fresh-baked selection and signature sips keep us coming back every time. The Haul: * 85°C Roll: It's giving Porto's vibes! Flaky, buttery, and filled with velvety cream cheese. This is a permanent resident on our "must-buy" list. * Pork Sung Bun: Taiwanese bun with shredded pork and special mayo. This is my personal favorite. * Red Bean Bread: A classic done right. Soft bread with a sweet red bean center--this is my husband's top pick! * Chocolate Cookie Bread: A chocolate lover's dream with a crunchy Oreo crumb layer. * Sugared Cream Cheese Brioche: Light, airy, and dotted with sweet cream cheese. * Taro Roll: A flaky, buttery pastry filled with a smooth, subtly sweet taro filling. * Garlic Cheese: Soft, pillowy bread topped with a punchy garlic spread and a generous layer of mozzarella. Our Signature Sips: * Sea Salt Chocolate: My go-to. It uses semi-sweet Ghirardelli chocolate topped with their classic sea salt cream. It's the perfect salty-sweet balance. * Taro Lavender Latte: My Husband's favorite. Creamy latte with steamed milk, taro, with a hint of lavender and topped with that same delicious sea salt cream. *PSA*: DO NOT MISS OUT ON NIKA'S MAD SWEETS!…read more Life is short, eat dessert first! And that was exactly what I intended to do when I was blessed with the fact that Nika's IG popped up on my FYP and had me drooling at the sight of all of her delicious creations. If you've heard about the quaint local Stockton Whimsy Market, you would know that Nika and her small business that consists of her adorable family, have a booth regularly at this market. I set out to go to the next one lined up and when I arrived I made a beeline for her booth. You know something lives up to it's hype if the lines are long! To be honest, waiting in line added to the anticipation of trying out the lineup she had that evening. Her husband was the one taking orders and not only was he kind but he made great small talk. It was a nice added personal touch. I'm all about community and getting to know people so when people take the time to greet you and chat, it goes a long way. I went home with their Best Selling Award Winning Ube White Chocolate Blondie. I've been hooked ever since. Did you know that she also makes custom cakes? No? Well now you do! Nika is an absolute sweetheart! I was so nervous to reach out to her on IG for my daughter's birthday cake. I had spoken to her on IG here and there before asking and was pleasantly surprised that she's the type of small business to engage with her followers. It made it a lot easier for me to ask if she would do me the honor of making my daughters 1st professionally made themed birthday cake for her 3rd birthday. Of course she agreed and she was so wonderful during the whole process of listening to what I had envisioned for the design, whilst also giving me great ideas and even had her friend also make a beautiful cake topper for it. I went for a classic chocolate cake with a swiss meringue butter cream and it was a hit at my daughter's party! Ever since then I've actively been trying out new sweets any chance I get and have fallen in love with so many more. After the Ube White Chocolate Blondie, my next favorite would have to be her Sweet Corn Mochi! She has such a variety of desserts that you'll never get tired of what she has to offer and believe me when I say, you'll continue to consistently come back for your favorites and new creations she comes up with! I'm floored that I'm the first one to review her small business, but don't let that fool you into thinking it's not worth trying. TRUST when I say RUN do not WALK at the opportunity to grab some delicious desserts and sweets. I promise just browsing through her IG alone will seal the deal for you! Her IG handle is: @nikasmadsweets! You can't buy happiness, but you can buy desserts and that's kind of the same thing! I'm the first to review so don't come for me that this was "too long!" I'm genuinely a huge fan and supporter of this small business! .
