United supermarket is kinda the grocery store go-to in town. There are multiple locations, but this…read moreone is my primary. That's mostly because it has a full service Wells Fargo built right in. They have everything you expect from a grocery store and then some. There's a sushi counter, hot food you can order to eat in their seating area, and a Starbucks. Lots of fresh produce, beer and wine, deli, fish and meat market, bakery, flower market, and probably more that I'm missing. The employees are always friendly and helpful. The store stays busy and fast moving. The people walking you out to help load your car are a great unique touch.

They tell me they get a truck in every night and can only order a case of anything, and to come back the next day. I hate making multiple trips to get a sales price on an ad item. I try to go early enough in the day to get an ad item, but many times still find it out of stock. Oh, how I miss the days when Rob Snell owned and operated these stores, and how customer oriented it truly was. The staff at United are consistently friendly and seemingly caring, but their hands are tied, now that the chain is owned by Albertson's in another state. Every good thing always comes to an end.

I saw the bathrooms notable clean for a gas station and them keeping things in stock. The patrons do NOT make their lives easier for I watch a vehicle at the gas pump litter when the trash can was right next to the vehicle. I reminded them sternly it's up to a $2000 dollar fine for littering in Texas. They said they'd pick it up yet they did not but they sure acted like they did. I went inside told them staff that it was WRONG of what they did and i apologize people make their lives harder than what they need to be when they are here at this time giving their time to work and to earn the money to be here and I apologize they have to deal with that. They said thank you and was full of grace. The clerk gave me a good laugh to lighten my mood and it WORKED. SO THANK YOU. Also I notice their machine were down and could use some renovations on the facility for being a 24/7 place who get the business even by disgraceful patrons who don't appreciate the land we are graced with- i hope they get it. Specifically it is their tap to go system. Anyway thank you to the hard workers at Stripes. I give it only 4 for the updates they deserve!

It was smaller and the deli was not as good. However, the sushi was a lot better. The store did seem darker and less open than the other one, but it still had lots of good foods and even some better items. Their wine and beer selection looked more complete. They also had live lobsters and a nice meat counter with different pre-assembled meat dishes, e.g. beef and feta cheese pinwheels, peppered ribeye steak, apple stuffed chicken or turkey for roasting, etc (the 50th street has a large seafood section but no meat counter). At the 50th street one there is hardly ever any bargain/thrift food, possibly because it is busier, but at this one they had bread and all kinds of meat. I like buying the sale stuff because you can save a lot and have something tasty to put on the grill. The location is pretty far off the Loop, and there was a lot of construction in the immediate area when I went by which was a pain, plus I nearly got rearended by a driver in a big white van not paying attention on the way there (after she almost hit a red Mercury sedan too!). I will probably return in the future to the 50th street location, but this one is not bad! And as I said, the sushi was much more delicious at this location (the 50th street piles on the wasabi and has more boring selection).

Through that is another strange hallway-like area with three doors, one of which is for the bathroom. It's nothing fancy, a bit run-down, but it's also in the middle of nowhere and it's functional, so I was grateful. My favorite part of the store was the bin of hammers and sledgehammers for sale.

So I walked to the dollar store down the street and used their bathroom, they had a shelf full of bleach so I bought a gallon to give to the truck stop... When I asked the guy working the counter he gave me the same excuse as the previous night, after informing him I am the one who bought them bleach, he later changed his story and said it's closed to customers because they are afraid the customers will get them sick? As a truck stop I can't believe they would do this to their customers? I will never come back here!!!!
