Went for the first time today, and while overall the place is pretty nice, there are some flaws. I've been to Yestercades in Somerville, Game Vault in Morristown, and Silverball Museum in Asbury, and the selection of games here is comparable with the others. The fact that they have pool tables, air hockey, and skeeball actually makes them stand out a bit! However, the games aren't nearly as well maintained as the ones at Game Vault and Silverball, and the pinball selection is lacking. Half of the pinball machines I played were set at too steep an angle, so while the games were fast, some of the flippers weren't strong enough to handle the more extreme angle, and the ball drained fast. Also, some pinball and console machines were not working properly or were out of order. The lighting is also pretty low, so you can't see all of the playing fields on some of the pinball machines, nor read the gameplay instructions. On a positive note, the pricing is extremely fair if you're going to be there for a while...$25 for the entire day is an absolute bargain in my book...and the selection of games is awesome. If you're into gaming, whether it's from decades ago or yesterday, Yestercades is highly recommended...I just hope they can maintain the machines better and perfect the place.
Now, on a side note, while I was there a mother was there with her 3 young children, who were acting very unruly and destructive. Normally I would dismiss this behavior because they're just children, but the fact that the mother just ignored their behavior, even though they were obviously being annoying to others, was disturbing. When the kids started throwing the Skeeballs at the machines continuously, the guy at the desk got involved and politely asked the kids to stop, saying that they would break the machines. He then had to turn the machines off, as the kids didn't listen and the mom stood there and defended them. Before they left, the desk guy thanked them and said he hoped they enjoyed themselves and hoped they'd come again. Big kudos to the guy working there, as he obviously knows what town he's working in and handled the situation perfectly, but a big thumbs down to,the soccer moms who allows their kids to do whatever they want, and then defend them when they're wrong.
Overall, Yestercades is a great place that should definitely be checked out...it's just in an uppity town with pampered kids...and no decent bars. read more
