While visiting McCaysville with my family, we made a stop at Yellowbird Coffee Shop as part of our day riding the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, and it ended up being such a charming little spot. The shop itself is small, retro, and really cool it looks like something that could have existed in the 1970s, but with a modern twist. When you walk in, there isn't any indoor seating. Instead, it's more of a walk-up counter experience where you place your order. Around the shop you'll find different stationery items for purchase, like bumper stickers, greeting cards, notebooks, and other fun little finds. I ordered a hot chocolate for my toddler and a latte for myself, and both were perfect especially because it was freezing outside that day. The warmth of the drinks hit the spot. While there's no seating indoors, there is plenty of outdoor seating on the patio area, which overlooks the river and offers a really nice view. Because of the cold weather during our visit, we didn't stay to sit and enjoy it, but on a warmer day I could definitely see it being a lovely place to linger. From what we saw walking around, this seemed to be the only coffee shop in the immediate area, and it's easy to understand why locals love it. Run, don't walk to Yellowbird! I found this place at the beginning of a missions trip, and we (myself and the other leaders) ended up getting coffee here everyday! Everyone got something different everyday, so I can tell you with certainty that you won't get a bad item off their menu. They were kind and patient with us all week even though I would give them 10 drink orders at the beginning of their day. I don't live close but I will make a point to go out of my way anytime I cross into Georgia from now on! read more

There was an initial hesitation as what to expect due to being located in an old bank drive thru but... our fears were unfounded when the warmth of hot apple cider touched our lips. What an unexpected delight! I had a Iced Caramel latte /Macchhiato. It was layered like Starbucks but had a delicious layer of chocolate on the bottom. We also got a Coffee with Caramel and cream. It was very good. We saw lots of Ducks and geese while we enjoyed the river. You don't want to miss this place! read more

After the Blue Ridge Mountain Train pulls out of the station a visitor to Copperhill on a Monday is subject to a bit of disappointment. The town begins to close up at 3 pm. Fortunately a handful of proprietors are still ready to serve wandering tourists. The Yellowbird Coffee Shop is one of them. YCS is right next to the shiny metal bridge where the Toccoa River becomes the Ocoee River at the Georgia-Tennessee Border. My wife and I enjoyed a muffin and fresh lemonade on a beautiful afternoon. We were delighted by the array of refreshing treats and gifts, too! Brian served up a warm welcome and delightful conversation. The covered outdoor setting looks upon the greenery surrounding the river and a gaggle of geese that don't mind you dropping cracked corn and crumbs from your baked goods. In future visits to Copperhill we will stop by YCS intentionally and not just because few other eateries are open. It is officially a favorite spot in this historic town! read more

I'll be the first to admit, I'm a bit of a coffee snob. But this shop exceeded my expectations. The had Counter Culture beans that were freshly roasted, and tons of other treats to pick up alongside your coffee.
