It's well maintained, mostly gravel though so if you have a road bike you'll have a little more resistance but it was such a beautiful ride--- Delaware river on our left and the canal on our right. It's also reasonably used so every 15 min or so we came across others on bike or walking so never felt isolated. It makes for the perfect leisure ride with stops on the way. The towpath runs parallel to the Delaware and Raritan in NJ but we stayed on the Pennsylvania side to be wedged between water on both sides. Stops worth mentioning along the way-- The Narrows, Golden Pheasant Inn and off the trail walking the bridge (must dismount) to the NJ side in Stockton, Starving Artists Cafe.

The tick problem is especially concerning. Multiple people in our group ended up covered in ticks after visiting, and several were later diagnosed with Lyme disease. The owner really needs to do a better job maintaining the property and addressing this issue for the safety of guests. The fishing itself was also disappointing. The ponds do not seem to be stocked the way they are advertised. You can spend hours fishing and only get occasional nibbles from very small fish. Despite multiple visits and spending a lot of time on the water, I have yet to see or catch any of the larger fish that are supposedly stocked in these ponds. Overall, between the maintenance issues, the tick infestation, and the lack of quality fishing, I cannot recommend this place and will not be returning.

As we arrive at the shore, the captain, Captain Tom, spotted us from afar and gave us a very welcoming greeting. He took pictures for us in front of the ship and tells us everything we need to know about the trip. The crew was amazing and very attentive. The weather was a little chilly today so Patrick, the superstar crew member, very kindly offered his spare hoodies to my friends who are freezing. We didn't catch any strip bass today, but we did manage to catch many blue fish. They are huge and really quite delicious. Ah yes! So once you have a fish on hook, the crew will help you pull it out of the water, and at the end fillet them for you. The fishing experience was really easy and relaxing because the crew is there to help with untangling the strings or helping us putting on baits. The bathroom was extremely clean and the indoor space is dry and comfortable. I like the fact that they have a separate restroom for the ladies, it is very considerate. This is my 3rd time fishing with the Atlantic Star and I'll definitely come back with more friends. Tips: - don't forget to tip the crew members well when you exit the ship, they worked really hard! - they have everything you need on board, just walk in and be prepared to catch some fish! - good for family with kids too

The Pequest Trout Hatchery owns over 4000 acres on which they raise trout. Founded and established in 1982 the Hatchery is presently responsible for the stocking of over 600,000 brook, brown, and rainbow trout annually. The Pequest River Trout Conservation fishing areas and trails are open daily, dawn till dusk and can be fished as long as all NJ State fish and game regulations are met. And you will definitely need a valid fishing license as well as a valid trout stamp which help funds the stocking program. The Pequest Trout Hatchery and Interpretive Center is open Monday through Friday 9am to 4pm. This is an excellent tour especially anyone who is interested in seeing how trout are raised, housed, and released into NJ freshwater streams and rivers. Get your kid out of the house and take them Fishing, you'll both be glad that you did.

The hatchery tour is self-guided which is clearly marked by a green trout on the sidewalk that takes you to two different hatchery areas. The nursery building and the egg room. There are pictures on the windows which describe the operation from fertilizing the egg to final release of the trout into streams and rivers. You are not permitted in the rooms themselves. Brown, rainbow, etc. trout are all raised here. The best time to visit is between mid-September to early October but the facility is open year round. The second sidewalk trail leads to the Observation Platform. The platform gives you an overlook of the raceway (pools of trout) held year around for size development. If you are an avid fisherman, biologist or just interested in science this is a worthwhile experience with much to learn. The visitor's center has loads of taxidermy and I especially liked the black bear. Dioramas, a small pond with trout, and information boards add to your knowledge of the natural world. Aside from the hatchery there are a number of other activities available like hiking, hunting, bird watching and fishing in nearby Pequest river. The red trail has interpretive signs and leads you to the yellow and blue trails. Special events include their Open House (April 2/3) which is free, fly casting for beginners, family fishing basics and hunter's education which require a two week pre-registration. There are a lot of outdoor activities offered at Pequest.
