Cab rides are kind of like Veterinarian Clinic reviews - You either had a nice ride or they screwed the pooch. Unlike our less than stellar taxi ride from the train station to our Hotel a few days earlier (by competing company), our Yellow Cab ride from the Hotel to YVR was comfortable, friendly, direct, and well priced. Having our bags loaded and unloaded and not worrying about our safety was also a plus. The ride through some of Vancouver's residential areas was also interesting. On January 23rd at 2:55pm, on Birch and West Broadway cab number Y94 intentionally crossed a red light. It was red, he saw it accelerated and passed on the red light at least 2 seconds after the light was red. I called Yellow Cab office twice to report it and left voice messages to get a callback. Never did... The manager obviously doesn't care about these incidents. If the managers don't care, I guess you can't expect much from the drivers. read more

My friend and I spent a couple of days in Vancouver prior to boarding a cruise ship to Alaska. We used Yellow Cab to take us from YVR to our hotel, then the following day from our hotel to Granville Island and back, and on Sunday from our hotel to the cruise terminal (with time spent driving around Stanley Park). All 3 of our drivers were polite and quick to pick us up in clean cars. One of the drivers spoke a little English and I had the feeling he was new on the job but he understood enough to get us to where we were going safely, so no complaints. The other two drivers were very knowledgeable about Vancouver. I love connecting with locals when I travel and I enjoyed chatting with them about their city and eventually sharing tidbits about our lives. My favorite experience was with Jesse, who drove us around Stanley Park (a beautiful park!) as well as some other areas we didn't have time to visit on foot. When it came time to go to the cruise terminal, I was expecting him to drop us off on the street as I saw other taxis doing, but he told us to stay in the car and he took us to the luggage check in point for our cruise line, and then rather than leave us there in the underground garage (as other taxis were doing), he took us back up to the street so we didn't have to find our way there. Our first time calling a cab, we needed one for a motorized wheelchair so I phoned earlier in the day for info. When I called for the actual handicap van--7:59 pm--the dispatcher woman repeated the p.u. address twice, asked the name of the complex (I told her, she said "yes"), I even asked her if she would like the drop off address which she took & repeated, then told me van would arrive in 15 min. Hubby waited (in chair) 55 min., then called back and was told they had no record of call!! It's bad enough they didn't dispatch a driver in the time they said, but to lie?? Really? I have the phone record, and do you really think by lying that brings back return customers? I would prefer honesty--you had 3 wheelchair vans on duty--he was told another 20 min.s then, which turned into almost 40 minutes!! The whole ordeal took 2 hours, for a 15 min. trip. NOT the driver's fault, just dispatch not caring about their customers!! (The driver was a gem--he helped make up for the horrible office crew, but won't be using them again as you can't believe them.) read more

Tonight I was trying to get home from one of my 3 jobs and always take a cab. Most of the time I'd use Yellow cab and spend about 400 a month on cabs to commute but tonight I was trying to flag two cabs abd they slowed down and then laughed and pulled away as I was about to get in moching me. One at Davie and Denman the other by Pender and Main. I went with Black top and paid the driver $20 when my fare was only $7 . First time cab user here - the reservation rep I spoke to was so kind and patient with all of my questions. The driver, however was fine at pick up although insisted I be charged a much higher rate than the reservation rep told me it would be (barring any unforeseen circumstances, of course). Driver said I HAD to be charged a flat rate but when I insisted that the rep told me it would be less, he relented, although not happily. He chatted with his friend on speaker phone for the length of our short drive, jumped out to grab my luggage and leave it on the road (not the curb 3 feet away) and took off after I barely got out. I even left him a sizeable tip out of habit. I regretted that. I wrote to Yellow Cab just to let them know what the service was like and the a nice woman reached out to me immediately to let me know it was unacceptable and what she would do to rectify the situation. I told her that wasn't necessary as it was just feedback should any other customer experience this. But she followed through and was so understaning. Incredible customer service from both her and the initial rep. Hopefully the driver experience was a one-off experience. Would not hesitate to use Yellow Cab because of the two wonderful people there. read more

I cannot believe this company. I used to use them all the time. Probably 40 trips a month on average. The reason I liked them was they had a great mobile app. You could book online, they would give you the cab number, and they featured a system where you could track your driver, to see exactly where he was. This was an excellent feature that really made the app so awesome to use, and you I could even use it to send the real time messages to the driver. It also allowed you to customize your exact desired pick up location ( ie back door of my building ). I loved the app and hardly ever had any problems with getting where I needed to go without any hassle. Well imagine my surprise when they completely changed the app. It is not the same at all and it has none of the features I mentioned that made my travel plans smooth. This app is garbage. It doesn't give you any info/ updates as to anything. It more often then not gets the location wrong. You can't specify exact location to be picked up at ! No tracking, no indication of what cab is coming from where or when. No way to contact the driver. You can't even directly call yellow cab from it. This has caused me nothing but problems and caused me to take my business elsewhere for the most part. Last night however I gave it another shot. I booked a cab at 140 am. 40 min later I called to ask what was going on. Sat on hold for 9 min. Finally was told that they had no clue as to when it would arrive. But it would. And to call back if it wasn't there in another 15m ( bringing the total wait to one hour ?! ) Well once again imagine how thrilled I was to get an email stating that my booking was CANCELLED!!! For no reason - after I had just called. So my friend tried to book. For me from his place. Once again waited and waited. He called them twice. Finally a cab was downstairs I was told. Guess what ? When I got down there it WASN'T ! I had to get my husband to take a cab from Richmond( not yellow cab ) to pick me up so I could get to my destination. He waited until my husband left the cab and added the charge. I reached out to the company asking for written agreement that i would have to pay this charge and a Carolyn Bauer confirming that this isn't how their company does business, wrote me back asking some details, and then she has never reached out to me again. i get the feeling they just wanted me to go away. to be ripped off from a cab company, not the way you want to start your trip. not to worry though, Uber received over +150$ and they were all really great to deal with. don't use this company. not worth the hassle when there are quality drivers who aren't lying and ripping off customers. read more

I would give this company 0 stars if I could. We just got a ride of less than 5 minutes between the Listel and Hyatt hotels to catch a ski bus. During the short ride, I didn't notice that he hadn't turned on the meter. Then, he charged us $20 rather than the $7 or so that the fare should have been. I tried to dispute the charge, but he said that like the airport drop off, there was a fixed rate. Looking it up just now and calling the Listel back, that doesn't appear right. I HATE being in a situation where I have to choose between making a scene on a public sidewalk and getting scammed. DON'T use them - or at the very least, use them with caution. read more

You can call or download their app to order a cab. My family and I called to order a van size cab (for 5 people) to the middle of Stanley Park (the totem pole exhibit). The cab came pretty quickly, only took about 10 minutes. And then the driver was really nice and drove us around the park the long way (per our request) for a mini tour of the park! I then used the App to order a cab around 10pm, and the cab came pretty quickly to that location as well. Each time they run the meters, and the prices seem appropriate even in comparison to uber/lyft prices in other cities. Especially considering the ease of getting larger/van size cabs. read more

On Friday June 25, 21, I prebooked a Yellow Cab with wheelchair access for Sat June 26 at 17:00 to pick up my dad at his care home for a family visit at my sister's place. By 17:30 there was still no cab. My dad and mom both in their 80s along with my sister and her husband had been waiting outside in the heat of 35 degrees Celsius since 17:00. I called Yellow Cab and was told that a prebook is not a reservation and does not guarantee that a cab is available and that we were next on the list. By 18:30 and still no cab, my sister had to go to fetch food to feed my dad who is diabetic. They ended up eating just outside of the care home because due to COVID, families were not allowed to have meals in the home. The Yellow Cab never showed up. Pathetic customer service. Wish I had looked at yelp reviews before I booked them. I made my booking through booking.com, prepaid the fare and gratuities. When we got to the airport, the driver said we had not actually prepaid so I showed him my booking.com receipt. He said that just reserved the cab and since we were running late I paid him in USD. Got home, checked my AMEX account, and sure enough, we had paid. Asked booking.com com for a refund and also opened a dispute with AMEX. I also had no way of contacting the driver to ensure he was actually on his way, called the office several times and got recordings, left messages and got no call backs. Their automated phone service is pretty easy once the call gets through. Pros: - It records your previous to and from addresses and you just push a button if you want the cab to get to the same place and they'll send one immediately - Get a text and a ring to confirm when cab on it's way and when it is outside. I love not having to talk to actual people at the end of a long night. Cons: - sometimes calls don't go through or they hang up if their lines are busy on a weekend night. Understandable. Just dial again. No biggie. Note* they have an app which is prob real easy to use, but I never bothered. read more

This company seems to be the monopoly in town, so I did not think I had a choice. The ride was easy to book online and I received a text message when the driver was on his way and again when he was down the street. I was outside waiting when he arrived. Immediately, he began to complain that i hadn't answered my phone when he called. This seemed irrelevant as there was no reason to call me. He continued to call me after I was in the car and he was getting an error that the call could not connect, my phone worked fine, seemed like an issue with his phone or system. As we approached the airport, he told me that the local airport does not have my airline and i must be mistaken. Of course, I found it and asked to be dropped off. He told me the price in Canadian dollars and when I paid electronically, the cost automatically converted to USD , an amount that was about $10 less. I work in bars every weekend, i finish around 130 -2am. when you call the number it will always say 5 minutes. as per tonight they never came at all, at best it takes 3 hrs for yellow cab to actualy pick you up... when you call to ask about your taxi the guy on the other end wants to take it personally that you have been waiting for 2 hrs for a 5 minute taxi, and instead of bumping your priority he will totally delete you from the queue. so.. you have to call again & again , at this point after calling 15 + times , i waited 2.5 hours for a taxi & it did not show up, I gave up, especially as the guy from Yellow taxi just started hanging up on me when i called. i walked halfway home with all my gear until a mcclure taxi finally picked me up at 4 am.. read more

Because of my experience today with Yellow Cab, I cannot wait for UBER!!! I take cabs everywhere and it was calling for rain so I preordered a cab at noon today. I have an appointment in Mount Pleasant so I arranged for a pickup for 3:30 downtown. The operator assured me that it was no problem. At 3:35, I started to get worried so I called right away. I was put on hold with an approximate wait time of 4 minutes. 3 minutes go by and I'm on hold still for approximately 4 minutes. I was on hold for 8 minutes. The operator told me that the last operator was incorrect and there was a shift change. I guess that make it ok. Why bother planning ahead? I don't know what to say about Yellow Cab. Each time its very hard to grasp. I have taken the taxi many times. I have to say they are either really late or super early. Ok so I called the taxi at 6 pm and told them to come 15 mins later. The Taxi showed up at 6:02. Grrrr... Not what I expect. Ok. So I picked up the automated phone call and scramble to get ready. at 6:04 another automatic call came in. Ok I am rushing as fast as I could. Guess what 6:05 the taxi driver called. I told him I will be out in 3 mins. Grr... Too much rushing. I remember one time I called and they showed up an hour later and once 2 hours later. I don't know when is the right time to call. I don't do well with taxi and I really never enjoy taxi rides. Just not that great with timing. Plus the inside is like a hit and miss. They make public transit look like luxury, which is pretty incredible. I have nothing against the drivers as a rule, but I hate the harassing booking system which gives you four calls per ride. It's as annoying A.F "Your cab is on it's way" "Check your cab's progress!" "Your cab is outside." "Tell us how your trip was? The last one is particularly annoying. It's like being harassed for 20 minutes, totally defeats the purpose. Often one call is interrupted by the driver wondering where I am, when it's only been two minutes (literally) since I've called. I feel like yelling that if I didn't keep fishing for the phone in my purse I would have been outside already-but it's not their fault. Black Top has the whole booking thing minimalized and it's much less intrusive. I won't call them at all now though. I used the app and prepaid for the first time yesterday and my driver literally yelled at me that I hadn't paid and tried to take my phone, he threatened to call the police. Wish I could use zero. From the minute I got into the cab I felt uneasy. The driver seemed "off". Very unpleasant, strange comments. As he drove me to the airport from downtown Vancouver he seemed very angry regarding the traffic etc. I was afraid that he would drive away with my luggage he was so unpleasant. I couldn't wait for the ride to be over. He informed me that it was 46$-(it was a flat 36$ from the airport to downtown). When I inquired about why it was more he said there was traffic. Wanting to get my bag and get out as soon as possible I paid (never could see the meter-thought it was the flat rate) I paid. He held the machine upside down so I could not see the screen. When I got my receipt it said the ride was $36 and that there was a $10 tip. I never authorized the tip. I called the company to complain. They were rude. I left a message on the manager's machine and to date have not been called back. As a woman riding alone in a cab I have learned a very important lesson-check out the driver before you get in and if he seems strange don't take the ride!!! read more
