***Appalling, Repugnant and Discriminatory Behaviour by the Landlady at Ye Olde Monken Holte pub that needs urgent exposure.***
I visited Ye Olde Monken Holte on Sunday the 18th of February on my own and encountered an incredibly distressing experience that compels me to share what happened.
From approximately 4:20 pm to just before 8:00 pm, I was a patron, enjoying a few drinks whilst sitting perfectly quiet on my own. However, my evening took an abrupt turn when the manager (or landlady) who I believe to be named Veronica, approached me as I was finishing my drink.
In an astonishingly rude manner, she said "I want you to finish up, leave immediately, and NEVER return".
I looked up at the patrons on my table and they appeared as shocked and bewildered as I was. Their expression mirrored a mix of disbelief and discomfort, leaving them almost shell-shocked with what they witnessed. They vicariously offered apologies on behalf of what they witnessed and their sentiment echoed the sheer astonishment and bewilderement I was feeling, affirming that I wasn't alone in hearing the outrageous remarks from the landlady.
Puzzled and seeking clarification, I packed up and before leaving found her standing by the bar and politely asked her if I had done something wrong.
To my surprise, she arrogantly declared, "I don't have to explain anything." I proposed that understanding the issue would prevent future misunderstandings. Regrettably, her response remained unchanged: "I don't have to give an explanation." I suggested that withholding an explanation could be perceived as discrimination, to which she callously dismissed me and walked off.
This incident on the 18th of February left me deeply disturbed and convinced that such behaviour deserves exposure. Discrimination should never find a home in any establishment, let alone one as historically rooted as Ye Olde Monken Holte. I urge potential patrons to consider the troubling atmosphere created by Ye Olde Monken Holte's management on the 18th of February and think twice before supporting an establishment that condones such disgraceful conduct.
I've also just seen other 1 star reviews that have had a similar encounter with the landlady, and so this cannot be considered a one-off, or case of "just having a bad day".
