What was supposed to be a 2-hour event crept up to 2.5 hours, either because we started late or because there was a lot to our Brooklyn Bridge scene. The class was quite fast paced; we got all the important elements in, even though we felt we were playing catch-up most of the time. Super grateful that our instructor provided a giant plastic bag to carry our painting around in, as I had dinner plans & an Uber ride to contend with after our evening painting session. My first Paint Nite was purchased through groupon. You have to pick a location/ time & date after purchasing. I didn't realized mine was not in the city but it was still a great time. They supply you with everything you need me and bestie had a blast. The instructor was very helpful but don't come late they will not wait for you. This was not a BYOB which i kinda wished it were as many wine paint already are and saves you tons of money as the drinks were about 12-15$ ouch. Other than that if you're just looking to paint this is a great company to choose from. i don't think i would do it again as i found others for the same price with BYOB or some others that wine and paint at bars and they have happy hour on site. read more

Overall, it was a fun night but an average experience at best. I originally found the Groupon for this deal however it does not cover the entire cost of the classes in NYC (booooo....lame). The Groupon was $25 (covering some portion) and when I logged on to pick a class the price was $75 total. With taxes and other fees I ended up paying $57 out of pocket (Groupon purchase + rest of cost of class not covered by Groupon). The website is designed well with a picture of which plant you will be making. I ended up picking a class that was held at the Bryant Park Lounge in the Residence Inn Hotel in Midtown. The "lounge" was on the third floor of the hotel and was a nice set up for this type of event. Drinks were not included and unfortunately happy hour was ending by the time the class started. So drinks were $6-$10/glass. Typical bar food was available also for purchase. There were a couple tables set up when we got there with table clothes and supplies. It was exactly the same structure as the wine and paint classes. Our instructor was very enthusiastic and went at a good pace that my friends and I were able to focus on our plants but also socialize. There were plenty of supplies to go around which was one thing I was worried about. Total, the class lasted about an hour and a half with one fifteen min break to get more drinks or use the restroom. We all liked how our plants came out and felt that although we had fun but we probably wouldn't do this class again. I purchased 2 Yaymaker passes for my bf and I during Black Friday weekend this year for $20 each. They seemed like a great deal because they were redeemable for any event. While my other group of friends decided on a Paint Nite event quickly, we decided to save our passes until we settled on a date that we were both free on... About one week after my friends booked their event, I was hit with an extra $48 ($24 pp) "experience fee", on top of my $40 (2 Yaymaker passes) trying to book the SAME event. I contacted customer support asking why I would have to pay the extra $48 and this is what I got: "It looks like when your friend made this purchase, the experience fee had not been added to the event. The event has since been updated to the correct price and moving forward, guests will be asked to pay the experience fee on the event." Though they refunded me the $40 for my 2 passes after I demanded for a refund, this is completely unacceptable to change the pricing of the events AFTER our passes were purchased. If I knew the event would be $44 per person originally, I would not have purchased the passes. In fact, I was looking forward to attending one of the events. A better way to solve the problem would be 1) update everyone that there are now experience fees and 2) to honor passes from before the changes were made. read more

Knowing that I am an avid gardener living in a garden-less apartment, my friends took me here to for my surprise birthday celebration. This event was held in Fushia restaurant in Long Island City. We were given a wooden planter box, a glove, cactus soil, trowels, drainage rocks, decorations and 3 succulents to choose from. The instructor then guided us on each step of the process and how to care for the plants. We can decorate the garden with as much rocks, moss or birds that was provided. You can order food & drinks from the restaurant during the event. However, I would be careful with eating/drinking while planting as loose soil can get into your food. In the middle of the session, there was a joke competition. If you come up with the funniest joke, you win a free plant nite. At the end of the session, you bring home your little succulent garden. So I loved Paint Nite and enjoyed several past events, however since it has changed to Yaymaker this year; I am yet to successfully attend a event. I had 2 events cancelled prior to the Paint Nite in February and March this year. This is ridiculous. It feels as though the establishment is collecting money and never booking the events. Upon trying to purchase the event, it says that the voucher is not fully valid for NYC events. Had to email Paint Nite's customer service and didn't get anything resolved. CS tried to provide "evidence" of their current deal that states the "exclusion of NYC" fine print, but when I sent them the link to the deal I purchased (one without any mention that I can't use it in NYC)...all they could come back with is that they can change the deal at anytime at their discretion. I came here on a Thursday night, we were a group of 3 and had a good time. The seating arrangements are in groups of 3 and it is a little crowded. I wish I had more space but our teacher was great and even funny at times. You have the option of purchasing food and drinks at the bar but this slows down the class; it doesn't really start at 7pm because everyone is congregated at the bar trying to get drinks & there's only 1 bartender & 1 waitress. Expect a 7:20pm start. The location I went to was Bowlmor Lanes and it was great. We were very happy with our paintings and the process was much easier than we thought. Many events were sold out a week in advance, and I eventually picked a Thursday night event at Bowlmor with the artist Daryl. The web interface was very user-friendly and the booking was smooth and convenient. The event night: the event was located at Bowlmor, Times Square's massive bowling venue, in a sectioned off area with a small bar area serving cocktails and wines. Our party of two ordered a bottle of Riesling ($39) and the wine worked wonders in fueling our creativity through the painting. Even if the sold out event had ~80 in attendance, the event flowed well and relaxing and the instructor attended to our various questions. Had an amazing first time doing paint nite on the upper east side with my instructor. My group bought the living social deal and if you plan it out right, the total can be $26/person for the buy 3 deal. I'm no artist, so when my painting turned out decent, I knew my instructor had done her job with her explanations and good jokes. Extremely accommodating staff, still fun without the alcohol, and great group outing or date! The only complaint is that the time we had to paint was too short. The classes are held at a bar, lounge or restaurant so you can also purchase drinks and food to enjoy as you paint. You get step by step instructions on how to create your works of arts but you also have some freedom to make your masterpiece special. It's been my experience that venues that are smaller tend to be better because no matter how many people are there, there is only one instructor. Like everyone, I love the concept of drinking with friends and being guided through the creation of a personal painting, something I would never do on my own. And like a lot of people, I always end up concentrating on painting so hard that I barely drink! Lame. THE 5 STARS IS FOR THE PAINTNITE EVENT. THE VENUE WHERE THE EVENT I ATTENDED, WOODROW'S, GETS ZERO STARS!!! The paint instructor was pleasant and nice and gave us enough tine to finish each painting step. He gave individual pointers and helped us create our masterpieces. All in all, HE was nice and helpful. It is a SHAME that the wait staff at WOODROW'S created a nasty heavy dark cloud on the event. She had a NASTY ATTITUDE to the point of calling one of the PaintNite'ers "CHUBBY" during an ARGUMENT. Who does that?!?! This waitress was very unapologetic. Scheduled a paint nite with my sister in law. The day of the event, the event was cancelled. Despite multiple confusing emails, we managed to reschedule for the next day, a different location and different painting. The painting was a sunset with a palm tree. Not super difficult, but for someone who has never painted, it's daunting. I have done paint nights before, so I knew what to expect. The instructor, Greg, did not give directions on how to use the brushes. Did not give clear directions on how to mix the paint to achieve specific colors. His mic was going in and out so you couldn't hear him half of the time. He did announce at the beginning of the class that only positive words about each others paintings would be acceptable and that we should get creative with our paintings. Then proceeded to tell me how to fix my painting to make it look like his (what if I WANTED that specific color or placement of whatever...that is my creative expression), and tell my sister in law that her painting looked like Apocalypse Now. Pretty sure that those are not positive words. I did a double date here last week and loved the instructor (Daryl - very chill and funny), the venue (super sweet waitress named Deb), and the atmosphere (bar food and alcohol? yes, please). Our only complaint is that the original painting/instructor we had signed up for was changed without notifying the participants who had signed up prior to the change. Originally i booked my night at a different location but when that party was cancelled i had to reschedule to a different location. Although we started late and the artist was basically running around getting everything ready, the event was a lot of fun. I went with a group of 8 and there was a confusion with my tickets and they didn't make a big deal of it which was nice of them. From the opinions of my friends they all loved it, the artist was constantly going around making sure everyone was on track and helping out the painters. She was very nice and friendly. I would definitely book another event when i get the chance. I just wish the event was BYOB because the bar had limited drinks for us to choose from and after we had our bottle of wine when it came to order more, they had no more which was disappointing. Imagine 60 women in a room all fighting over the pink plants. MISERABLE. Something that should take 45 minutes gets stretched to almost 2 hours. Oh and be prepared to name your plant... yeah no. The idea is fun however the group was way too large, no drinks are included and they really drag it out. Also, there is not enough options - be prepared to get stuck with the sucky succulents unless you're ready to pounce like a cheetah in heat when they put them out. I feel like my plants were dead on arrival so I'm interested to see how long this lasts for. Let me list all the bad: 1) Painting of the night was "A Step Into The Beach". She actually told the class that we were painting this "beachy" thing and she didn't know the name of the painting or the person who first drew it. What? This is no Van Gogh, but she's getting paid for this class and can't spend one minute to look into an email or something for the title of the painting? All I had to do was go into my email to check. 2) She is borderline offensive without realizing. What if I'm a Sarah? 3) She wasn't able to teach us how to properly mix colors to create a muted brown. She kept saying "maybe some yellow? maybe some red?" WHY so many maybes? You're here to teach. 4) She said if we needed more paint that she had and all we had to do was ask.. AND.. AND. AND make AN ANIMAL SOUND. WHAT?! NOT FUNNY. When my gf needed more yellow and asked politely, our instructor told her "ok, now make an animal sound". My friend told her that she did not want to and did she have to, and the instructor said "you have to". Luckily I have friends who don't take sh* from people and my friend told her "then I don't want it.". She was clearly intimidated and realized she f*d up and just handed my friend the paint. I didn't hear her ask anyone else to make stupid animal sounds after that. 5) We had to draw wheat over the sand for our picture. She called it "grassy thing" and didn't even know it was wheat. It's basic knowledge as an instructor again. Went with a few friends to an event at the Cupping Room maybe a month or two ago. We had bought a bloomspot coupon - and had a great time. It was a little tough with the easel, paints, brushes, drinks, and food, but we managed. The paint portion was easy to follow, though there did seem to be some issues with the bruches and the cups of water they were in as the night progressed (probably cause people were drinking more). Venue was extremely cramped, not much room to move, and the easels were very close together, so be ready to be friendly with whoever you sit next to. Not great for a alrger group unless you get there earlier, or else you will all be spread out. It's first come first serve with seats, and there were three of us, and luckily I got there early enough that I was able to snag three next to eat other. read more

THIS IS A REVIEW FOR PAINT NITE: ASTORIA QUEENS @ ASTORIA BREWHOUSE I received a Groupon gift for my birthday from my best friend to attend a Paint Nite session. We had to book a good two months in advance because the painting spots sell out EXTREMELY QUICKLY! So if you're reserving just beware to reserve very very early. We painted in a back room located in Astoria Brewhouse on a quiet Tuesday night. I really loved the setup; everything was already laid out for us, paint, brushes, aprons, and canvases on stands. Our instructor had a wonderful personality. She was very cheery the entire time and definitely enjoyed herself while making the experience very relaxed for first time painters. She gave us enough time to paint even though she finished her sections fairly quickly in order to demonstrate. My friend and I really enjoyed ourselves and felt super relaxed after painting. I must note that the food from the brewhouse was excellent! I ordered a BLT that came with fries. It was probably one of the best BLT's I've had. Overall, it was a great night! It's a great thing to do with your friends, those who will appreciate the painting experience that is! lol read more

Love the idea and had fun but currently, it falls short. I normally start off with pros and a rundown of my experience but to get to the point with the low score, I'll start with the cons. Let me preface that I do LOVE this idea, and would absolutely do it again if some things were remedied. Ok, let's begin...cons: 1. It is way too expensive for what occurs. It's less of a "plant nite" and more of a "plant hour". A regularly priced ticket is 75$ a person... for about an hours worth of actual plant time. (For reference, a paint night is 45$ and its typically a 3hr class. This cost 65$ a ticket plus a 10$ fee, so 75$ a person....plus the toll into Brooklyn. WOW!) 2. The venue plays a decent role in your night. Some venues are much nicer than others, have more room, better food, etc...Look into the restaurant beforehand. 3. Plant Nite: if you take anything away from this, please let it be this comment: HAVE ENOUGH SUPPLIES AND SOME EXTRA FOR YOUR CUSTOMERS! This sounds like a no brainer but when we went, it was super skimpy and wound up annoying me since we paid so much money. Example: we got to choose 3 plants each. They sent a tray over with 12 plants for 4 people...If you weren't first to grab a good one, you got stuck with mediocre ones. I asked if they had extras to look at and they said no, but that I could walk around and trade. Sure, that'll go over well. "excuse me, I know you chose this plant b/c its pretty but would you like to trade for this mediocre one?"...Example 2: The picture showed our plant with 3 amethyst crystals in it. I was excited for this part. The crystals come out and we're told "please take 1 each"...uhm, nooo I want what the picture showed not some sub par, watered down version of it. 4. If you are going to charge 75$ a person, make the plants more intricate. It should take longer than an hr to create or it's just a waste of time. It took longer for me to get into Brooklyn and wait for late showers than it did to plant and leave. Now for the in depth review for those still with me... Price: Obviously a rip off. It should not cost 75$ without drinks/food etc...Its too much for too little time. Make sure you find a Groupon or you'll probably be extra disappointed. Venue: Shnitzel Haus in Brooklyn....I personally didn't like it. It is a German style place, mostly wood, tavern style atmosphere. There were 2 floors. Both were kind of cramped and they had a loud dj downstairs in a small space which gave me a headache. I did really like the ceilings though. Upstairs, where the plant night was held, it was ok. It wasn't really too tight, but it didn't make me say wow. It looked old and dingy and was just meh. Décor: I liked how the tables were set up but was disappointed when we sat down and the table clothes were never cleaned from whatever previous party they had hosted. I put my drink on the table and with the condensation, it made a muddy mess in front of me. Supplies: Not enough to go around. You should have a reserve for people to get exactly what they see in the picture and then some. Some people hog things, use too much, etc, and if you don't bring more than expected, people get stuck with garbage. Main takeaway should be: each persons creation should look like the picture shown for that night and no less of an expectation. The bowls were really nice glass and soil was high grade. The plants were in good condition but again, not enough variety for everyone to get what they truly wanted. The picture showed 3 pants and we were told "take 2 of 3"...Obviously everyone took 3. This left late comers with only 2 later on. Regardless if it's their fault for being late, they should still get what they paid for. That's the expectation. The picture also showed white pebbles and 3 crystals. There was only 1 cup of white pebbles for 4 people and then neon colored ones that no one wanted. I like the idea of variety and choice BUT, it should always be in addition and in excess, not a substitution. There were also pink, purple, and green moss. There were 5 guys in the class and many women who wanted green moss but there was only a handful of it for like 40 guests. Again, disappointing. Lastly, as stated above, we were supposed to get 3 crystals and were told "please take 1". Very disappointed by my creation as opposed to the picture we signed up for. Time: Class started at 7. Only half were there by then so we started 15min late. We also had a 15 min break. Class was complete by around 830...That means it took about an hour to complete. Not a good price to time ratio. Host: Mosha was adorable. She was very sweet and charismatic and I think she did a great job. She did a good job of instructing us and keeping everyone on schedule as well as helping those that needed. Bottom line: Find a Groupon. It's the only way to make the night bearable money wise. My best friend and I enjoyed the decor of place, instructor, and the other participants in the room. The waitress staff could have been better. They appeared confused most of the time. I also ordered another drink but never received and my best friend had to wait a while before being serviced. The Paint Nite staff (Nikki-Instructor & Janika-Assistant) were attentive, funny, played great music, and encouraged funfunfun! To preface, this review is only on the service. My friend and I were extremely excited to go to plant nite together using the groupon deal, and had been looking forward to the event. Unfortunately, we arrived 5 mins late. We knew that we were late, and politely walked in to the side to make sure we didn't disturb the speaker. However, the politeness was not reciprocated by plant nite staff and they did not make any effort whatsoever to try to accommodate us and have us sit together, especially since this is an event you are meant to enjoy with your loved one. Mind you, there were three empty seats that were together, but a girl was saving it for her two friends that were MUCH later than us. Also, before we even started using any materials we asked if we could reschedule and their staff, in particular the main female host (Kat Matos) snapped and rudely stated "deal with it yourself." My friend and I were extremely uncomfortable after several rude comments from the staff and didn't feel welcome at all, so we decided to leave. 1 hr after we left, we were provided a reschedule notification. That means, there was a reschedule protocol and the staff just didn't want to point us in that direction. At this point, we barely even want to do this. What a damper on this experience. I highly advise that you do not join this event as it's caused way too much frustration than it's worth. UPDATE: The customer service rep, Rebecca, was great at handling this situation, making this experience a lot more bearable. I loved the concept. I've had so many friends who've done this sort of thing I had to try it. The ticket said to show up 15 minutes beforehand at least. When we showed up we were the only ones. Then we sat down at a good table because we were the earliest. However a large drunk group came through and tried to move us. The staff asked us to move. I understand the reason and logic but I was miffed nonetheless that we had our seats taken by people who had come late. Half of that group ended up filing in 30 minutes late. They were standing and yelling. It was insane. In any case, the instructor was good and we ended the night with pretty good paintings. Honestly I was not impressed by the original painting so I did my own medications. It turned out well. At the end one of the girls took some photos on her cell phone in an area with red lighting. The results were not ideal. Luckily we got a photo on the regular painting area. I was actually shocked that the price did not include a drink. We were told to sit at the bar upon arrival. I planned a candle making event with these guys and it was fantastic. Samantha was great to plan out the logistics with beforehand, and Rachel gave us a great night of fun, punny dad jokes, and instruction on how to make beautiful and aromatic candles. The YayMaker team is incredible professional, reliable, and puts on an incredible event. What a great concept!! My friend and I went to a weeknight session at Spring Natural Kitchen on the Upper West Side. It was SUCH a fun night! The instructor Maura did a fantastic job breaking down the steps to create our masterpieces. The paint, smocks, canvases, and brushes are provided, as well as good music and a fun atmosphere. It's my gf birthday this Saturday March 15th and she has been talking about getting all her friends together (most of them live in out of town in Philly, Boston, and Lake George) so we planned accordingly months in advance. Well on Monday March 10th we get an email that Saturdays Paint Nite is cancelled and asked us to pick another time. No explanation or the option for a refund. Well we have sent emails and they have gone unanswered. BE AWARE THIS CAN HAPPEN TO YOU AFTER YOU PLANNED MONTHS IN ADVANCED!!!!! I completely turned off to this company due to there lack of customer service. Shame on You with Arnold Diaz has been notified as well. So shame on you paint nite!!!!! read more

My friend invited me out to a paint nite - she found a deal on groupon. Not one to shy away from a new experience I said yes and showed up ready to paint. I was very happy when the instructor said we didn't have to paint whatever the rest of the group was painting and that it wasn't frowned upon to go rogue. This was the perfect opportunity for me to paint something that I could hang on my bare living room wall, which is desperately screaming out for some artwork. I found an image on google images and began painting away. Now, I wouldn't necessarily recommend you do this if you don't have any artistic skills. My friend will be the first to tell you she has no idea how to paint/draw so she needed the paint by numbers, step by step they give you to create the group piece. I finished painting early and since there were a few no shows I was allowed to paint on a nearby canvas (it had already been paid for). So I ended up painting a two part piece which now hangs above my couch in the living room, complementing my color scheme perfectly. I only have one left to go. I liked the flexibility of the instructor and the atmosphere was very nice albeit cramped. We were painting in a restaurant/bar. The only downside is that there was a large group to our right that was very noisy and disruptive. It seemed to make it difficult for people to hear the instructions and follow along while this rude group was talking over the instructor and he never did put them in their place. Anyway, I had a great time and will be back to complete the final part of my borrowed masterpiece. read more

I love the instructor, she was hilarious and helpful. We did painting a year ago at a studio type environment, and this time at a bar and we loved it much better at a bar, more relaxing and hell, boozing and painting? Best combo ever! Don't be scare if you are not a great painter, because many of us are terrrible! Such a great time, came here with a group of 3 to celebrate my cousins birthday. It was held at Room 53 and the bartender was very sweet and made my mimosa how I liked it. Our paint instructor Daniel was very precise with the instructions on how to paint the owl, the ceiling had paint of black I think someone had a little too much to drink in the past classes definitely a laugh within my group. read more
