My friend and I booked a trail ride with Cyndi. She met us with the horses . It was colder than I expected that morning, and she let me borrow a jacket. We are experienced riders, so we followed her up the Mingus Mountain. I loved the trail. I rode a beautiful horse named Nosara. She responded well and she loved to trot! Cyndi was a great guide! We could have rode with her all day. I would definitely recommend doing this trail ride!!

Enjoyed a late afternoon ride in the early autumn sunshine. Cindy and Steve run a friendly outfit with horses that step out nicely.

Foothills Ranch Horseback Riding in Mayer, Arizona, deserves every bit of praise I can give. From…read morethe moment I first spoke with the owner, Phyliss, I knew we were in good hands. She was flexible, accommodating, and genuinely committed to making our adventure special. I brought my two grandchildren along, and they had an absolutely wonderful time. The horses themselves were beautiful, healthy, and easy to ride--clearly well cared for and well trained. Our ride through the Prescott National Forest was nothing short of spectacular. As we followed Big Bug Creek and made our way deeper into the forest, both Phyliss and Janice shared an incredible wealth of knowledge. Their understanding of horses, combined with their deep appreciation for the area's history, made the experience unforgettable. We learned about the region's gold mining past, Native American history, early settlers, and even the geology, plant life, and wildlife that make this part of Arizona so unique. It was an education wrapped inside the best trail ride we've ever been on. Foothills Ranch offers far more than a simple horseback ride--it's a meaningful, memorable experience led by people who truly love what they do. I can't recommend it highly enough. Jim H

The trail is beautiful and diverse, we also got to ride the horses in the water. They took amazing pictures for us and even had a cake waiting at the end of the ride , 10/10 experience .

So glad we chose the Hat Ranch, as it suits our outdoor style to a "T". The directions in were very easy to follow, and our Toyota Tacoma picked up a beautiful red patina of Arizona dust. Sharon, our host, greeted us at the main house and then escorted us to our quarters. As this was our first time here, she took extra time explaining all about our stay, which included a home cooked breakfast today. You can Google the Historic Hat Ranch for all the cool details, but suffice to say there are some very presidentially mended fences here on the expansive 2,800 acres. Our room was very nice, twin beds and a nicely appointed bathroom. Also a spacious deck to view the open Ranch space. We opened the windows and breathed in the fresh air...scented with juniper and noble fir trees right out our door. We didn't see any, but Sharon told us Elk frequented the area often. Many other wild creatures to see too, including javelinas. The baby colt on the way in made my wife's day, and he quickly posed for some pictures and romped away. This has been a perfect cherry on the top of our anniversary Sunday. If you love the outdoors and crave a rustic Ranch experience with warm hospitality, the Hat Ranch is the place for you.

Nice scenic ride. Wish they would provide more instruction. My daughter had never been on a horse…read moreand they gave her no direction and when the dang horse started "grazing" in the trees and trying to brush her off by taking her through the trees, the guide said not to touch the reins or try to maneuver the horse out of the brush/trees and she would just "follow the herd" which was a bit ridiculous. She had no control over the horse, and was told not to try to gain any kind of control over her. She was told not to touch the reins, which was stupid he said she would be fine as long as the trail ride kept moving but then would stop to talk to everyone, and this horse would go off trail through the trees again and he would yell at her telling her not to touch the horses reins. He also told my mother in law that she had to kick her horse harder to make him go faster, but the horse was either lame or had an injury on his hoof and couldn't go faster probably because he was in pain. We hadn't noticed this until reviewing pictures I took while on the ride his hoof was bandaged up maybe from an abscess. My mother in law said I have been kicking him he isn't going any faster, and the guide said "you're meaning to tell me you have been on that horse for 30 minutes and know him better than me, and I've been around him for 3 years?! I guess we all learn something everyday don't we?! Ha!" It was a nice ride overall, just wished they gave some more instruction to first time, younger riders about how to ride a horse and not just sit on one. I used to barrel race and not having control of your horse and being told not holding the reins of a horse is just a dumb and dangerous idea honestly. They literally just put my daughter on a horse and didn't give any instruction. In hindsight this was my fault for putting her in that situation but it luckily went ok, and I'm glad she wore a long sleeve shirt and I tried to instruct her and she was able to back the horse up out of a tree, towards the end of the ride because I had to tell her not to listen to him grab the reins and pull that horse back! Great ride if you are an experienced rider, but I would advise against this for a newer or nervous rider.
