Personally, I've had nothing but good times. The food is good and cheap. It's typical Wetherspoon stuff; but it works and I'm never disappointed. They have curry nights, steak nights and god knows what else; so there's always a bit of variety to what you can order. I've been to this place for a quiet meal with a girl, I've been here for a loud drink up with my friends, I've been here with my family. It seems to work every time. The pub is big enough to have a different personality on different sides of the bar. In the summertime, the beer garden is pretty nice too. I recommend it. Decent food, decent staff- although, unfortunately, I do often find I am standing at the bar FOREVER, especially when ordering the food.

I don't get out of Hoxton much..... Well first up I get change from a fiver for a beer.....a lot of change....almost feels like too much change....and the bar staff were friendly.....almost too friendly - they chatted - not really used to that in Hoxton. This pub is big - with a large garden - not too appealing on wet and miserable night but I guess in summer it could be pleasant. It is a Weatherspoons - which pretty much says it all. Cheap beer, cheap food, a certain clientele (if you read between the lines). Lots and lots of locals - who did kind of look but then again I am probably the last man in shorts in Fairlop. It's loud with the backdrop of banter and the kerching of fruit machines. Rather shockingly the range of cask ales is extensive and ridiculously priced - in a good way. Would I eat here - well no - it's a Weatherspoons. But lots of people were and looked happy with it. Would I drink here again - well yes but only if I am at another gala round the corner. Busy busy - Weatherspoons know their market and deliver what they want - I guess it just takes more than a hanging basket to do it for me.....

You kind of forget that you are in such a big city were people are usually anonymous. There is only one thing I can say about the pork, mash and apple sauce: get it! The pork has its crackling bit that mixes well with the texture of the mash. It was my mum's birthday when we went and it was a saturday (t.g.i saturday) the early bird special from 5pm-7pm meant our bill was£25 (with a bottle of wine) instead of £50. They even placed a candle on our shared dessert on my request. Their cocktails are something you mustn't forget, have a mojito, perfect amount of sugar, perfect amount of lime and mint.

It has a typical british pub menu with all the usuals and no real surprises. The ales are pretty usual with Fullers and the usual pumped beers, again nothing special. I can see why my friend likes it here though because it seems friendly and has a well local feel to it. It is off the beaten track so you get more locals in here and less passers by. There is a nice area outside where you can sit in the sun but it does allow smoking so avoid if busy.

Literally I could spend hours and hours walking round this pub looking at all the posters and quotes layering the walls. Highlights are definitely the Marvel wall and don't even get me started on the Elvis toilet and the female icon wall in the toilet (yey). Sadly, we didn't have a full meal but we did try the chips and cheese and the apple crumble which we're both good. Shout out to their creamy homemade mayonnaise, seriously give it a try! I will be back to try their roast and spend another merry Sunday afternoon here.

Even from the…read moreoutside it is easy to appreciate the atmosphere the owners have cleverly created as large round windows are filled with candles and framed by purple velvet drapes. Inside this great style is continued as The Alma makes a use of its cavernous structure to create several distinct seating areas littered with sofa's and old wooden tables. A walled patio area outside offers even more seating as well as a bit of comfort for smokers. The Alma also fancies itself a bit 'gastro' and has a great food menu which changes regularly. Though I found it a bit expensive for breakfast, my Eggs Benedict were lovely. With food like this and such a buzzing atmosphere The Alma is a must try for everyone!

One amusing thing - ordered a dish that was supposed to come with sautéed onions. The serving girl came out to apologise and say they did not have any but could offer me raw chopped onions with it! This pub was unlike most of the chain in that it was purpose built unlike most Wetherspoons which are buildings taken over and renovated. Like banks, post office, cinemas etc etc. This one was a previous department store and had little character. Having said that, it was very clean and tidy with good service. I use their app which gives a more improved service (the previous service was difficult to beat). Ordered at the table, paid at the table through PayPal or card, and delivered to the table at a very quick rate. We ordered two jacket spuds with tuna mayo and the other with chilli. Both came with a drink in the offer. A little extra and I could order a Stella, my preferred drink, which wasn't on the offered beverages. I normally give Wetherspoons four stars because they are so brilliant but, unfortunately, a star was lost because although the meal was extremely tasty and cooked through and through, the potatoes and the chilli were tepid and not hot. Not a complaint as the food went down very well but......... Doesn't change my views on Wetherspoons. I still think they are the best pub chain.
