On the positive side. Very nice ambiance, and portrays what one would expect from a Pub. Could…read moreeasily be use as a setting for a TV series. As one other poster commented, the place has recently been renovated, so it is very clean and in good order. The selection of beer is nice and I personally enjoyed making my way in trying out the line of Sam Smiths brews. The price of the beer is also "extremely" inexpensive... so a little money goes a long way here. On the down side and due to the prices, this place can get busy and there is a good number of the people who've clearly had a pint or two too many. From the few times I visited here, it seems there was a group of seniors which were getting themselves pickled and if they were to die that very night they probably would not need embalming. I also didn't find the staff to be very friendly. They were not mean, but not overly sociable either. In the end, if you are with a group of people and in the neighborhood, then this is the place to come for a round or two, and then move onto your your next location.

George is a great guy, looks after my nan as well(not in a kinky kind of way, as a good neighbor kinda way).. Prices are really reasonable. You will not be short on conversation, and aesthetically, it's a stunner. Beautiful little pub tucked away on Norfolk St.

I hear that those visiting the Peaks this is the pub to be seen on.. The food is amazing and it's…read morealways packed so if you don't book early you might be going home hungry! Visited this for a wedding dinner and it was delicious.. Every course was well presented and staff are attentive and ready to provide you with whatever you need.. With parking available and only 20 mins from the city of Sheffield there's no reason to eat in town if you eat here with the most beautiful scenic views around you. Highly recommend!!

We meant…read moreto go for a long walk but it was cold, very cold and we got settled in and the three course meal seemed like a good idea. And it was. We drank Black Sheep bitter. We ate possibly the best whitebait I have eaten - certainly recently - flash fried and delicious; chorizo & lamb kidneys - an inspired combination; 2 full roast lunches, one beef, one pork with roasted root veg, Yorkshire puddings, gravy and mashed potato (oh, and a piece of broccoli - got to have greens - well, not me, obviously) - juicy pork with crackling & rare English beef - dribble. Then, quite a lot later (the staff kept on asking if we were OK) we had dessert - apple suet pudding with blackberry soup - excellent and a Bakewell tart of perfection with crème anglaise (by this I mean the custard was of a slender consistency) and poached blueberries. Truly, perfection. A cafetière of good coffee served with a jug of milk & one of cream, if you please, helped us to digest before we tottered back to the bus. Comfortable, friendly, excellent service with well considered, well presented food of gastronomic quality. There are bedrooms - maybe next time. Apparently they have won awards for their breakfast...

When I'm not gallavanting around in Manchester, I can most often be found in Sheffield, as it is…read morewhere Momma and Poppa F. live. Sheffield is a city that I know almost as well as Manchester, and it has some wonderful little hidden gems, such as The Howard. It's a proper pub, with a good range of food and booze available, both at very reasonable prices. For entertainment, there is a pool table and quiz machines available, a Monday evening Happy Hour which drops the already low prices to circa £2 a pint (depending on what your tipple of choice is), plenty of big screen T.V.s if you fancy watching the football, and they are no strangers to having live music from some of Sheffield's local talent. I was last in on Friday night, and it was super quiet, which was a shame as usually there is a great weekend atmosphere in The Howard. However, I got chatting to the manager whilst waiting for a friend, and he informed me that unfortunately their refurbishment has been pushed back, so lots of the regular faces weren't aware they're still open! I love coming here for a quiet pint, either on my own while waiting for a train, as a pre-club watering hole, or meeting people for a catch-up. The staff are friendly and chatty, and the location of the pub makes it a great little spot to visit. I highly recommend it!

I'd say it's a very short walk from the train station, and therefore is the place to stop when you have a layover in Sheffield, rather than staying the in station's shops :o)

This is perhaps one of my favorite places and make sure I come here at least once each time I visit…read moreSheffield. This place is very spacious with plenty of elbow room. As others have mentioned, the food here is not your standard pub type food, but what they do server here is top notch and always tasting great! They are accommodating and will adjust the plates to meet your requests. The only down side is the serving size is a bit small, but going with a few extra starters solves that problem. The beer line up here is outstanding... page after page of beers are listed here and my guess is it would take some time to come here and go through all the beers they offer here. Some of which have very high alcohol content to boot. This certainly is not your rowdy pub, nor is it a stiff suite place either... its relaxing and always offering something different. Can't wait until my next visit!

Walking along division street and being turned away for being too late, we jumped in out of the rain to The Old House. Having been very impressed with The York we were looking forward to trying the same owners offering on Division St. The Cajun Chicken Pie was delightfully cooked, with pastry breaking apart with the sword of my fork. The chips and peas struck chords of Nan's cooking on a warm, summer eve. The burger topped with bacon and cheese oozed with moisture and some fresh salsa complimented the meat with its sharp edge. I will always go drinking in The Old House. The atmosphere, plethora of drink choice and well thought out furnishing makes for a brilliant watering hole. I'll eat there too now.
