Everyone who works at this library is very friendly and they update their Facebook page frequently. They're very in touch with their community and they do a lot of out reach to encourage reading and socialization for local children. There are also always flyers of events going on. I come here at least a couple times a month and I also feel comfortable letting my son play on the reading carpet in the children's area and nursing him in a quiet corner of the library. I don't know what I'd do without this library! I wish that they could get more funding so they could run more programs and do more stuff.

We'd heard great things from my mother-in-law, but never really thought more about it until she mentioned that they now have a collection of birds eggs and nests (Jimmy's family hobby is birdwatching). We stopped in on the Friday after Thanksgiving, needing to get out of the house. The space is clean and new, bright, and well-lit. The collection seems pretty impressive to me for a small town library. There's a whole children's room, with picture books, juvenile fiction, YA fiction, DVD's and more. They've got crayons and craft tables. They've got a couple of bins full of costumes. They have either white boards or lego boards on the side of each set of shelves, providing additional creative space. They've got a rug with teepee and stools for story time. There are fliers advertising several community activities - craft nights, bedtime stories (come in your pajamas), and even a visit from Santa. We will definitely be back on our future visits!

But also be aware that libraries have so much more these days. The Batavia branch has games you can borrow, stem kits for kids, a seed library! On top of that check out the events on their website or social media, they have so many free activities for adults and kids alike, from art activities to movie nights to so many more. We have been to paint nights for both adults and even my 1 year old, they had a cool baby race my daughter participated in, we gave been to trivia and always participate in their summer read program. There is something for everyone, and I could seriously get lost combing the aisles for books all day. They have a media section as well, one that my friend sings praises over as she binges on new music and movies. Whitby Public Library has all the bell and the whistles and anything that I want in my dream library... I think I can even organize my "dream" wedding here! The only problem is the limited number of parking spots. Only around 15 or so for a large library this size (it has more computer terminals than parking lots!!) Of course there are some reasonable municipal parking lots right next to the library at 50 cents a hour and free on evenings, weekends and holidays.

It also has a cafe in the building, which was neat. I haven't seen a library with a cafe before. I had chosen the couch spot to do some work and sit by the fireplace since it was cold outside. It was quiet and I was able to finish a lot of work while I was there. I would definitely recommend this library to groups as well, since they have rooms you can book to do group assignments. The only thing I would say sucks is the parking, I wasn't able to find parking near the library so I had to park at a P lot, which wasn't too expensive. $1 for 1 hour.

You get the charm of the original building paired with the modern beauty of the Bausch & Lomb structure both are worth seeing. The library offers a ton of programs for kids, teens, and adults. Definitely check their website, because there's so much going on. Becoming a cardholder is easy, and once you are, make sure you look into their VIP section, you can snag free or discounted tickets to local attractions. You can check out physical books, audiobooks, and ebooks, and they're great if you need computer access or printing. They also have plenty of study areas and quiet spots to get work done. Honestly, they offer more than most people realize (myself included until recently!). The only downside is parking and it can be a bit tricky. I'm not sure if they validate or offer any vouchers, so it's worth asking. I was lucky enough to find street parking... but yes, you do have to pay. A great library with so much to offer. A coloring station, a small play greenhouse to read in, and a "secret room" hidden behind a bookshelf, providing another quiet area to play or read.
