You know what? Yates ain't so bad. Sure, it's not glamorous, it's not classy and it's certainly not somewhere you take your date. But I have something to admit - ok, yes we all know I don't drink and therefore party very little - but I don't use Yates for its W.I.L.D. (Partaaayyyy ! ) vibes. No, I go here because it's huge, it's quiet in the morning and I can sit quietly in the corner with my book and my orange juice and not be disturbed by the chatter of a couple of Brighton College mums outdoing each other on the size of their 3rd living room. It doesn't give me social anxiety. It doesn't make me feel I have to be someone I'm not. There is no pretence here. It's a safe bet, it's comfortable, and it is what it is. And it has a garden. I feel that we as consumers should use these venues as tools - don't pull your sour face at something that is consistent country wide, use them as what you need them to be. In my case, this is a quiet, spacious, cheap and consistent place that no one would guess to look for me. And to me on this Monday morning, that's absolutely perfect. read more

Yates - Pubs Near Me - Brighton, BNH

Yates's is a classic in terms of West St, and it's clear to see why: it embodies everything about this cultural eyesore, and the worst side of Brighton, and is thus a no-no to anyone with half a brain cell. Still, if you really fancy a very cheap pint, a fight, and hanging out with the lowest of the low, this is your money shot right here. If I could make one suggestion: you'd be mad to come here out of choice. Having actually been in Yates's, it is actually very nicely made out. The drinks are cheap, there's pool tables, lots of seating, the space is nice and open plan: this shouldn't be this tragically bad! However, the clientele is what makes this the awful, sinking ship that it is: everyone's young, everyone's loud, most are too drunk to do anything except vomit their way down to one of the clubs at the end of the road and find a similarly unattractive woman to mate with... it's despicable, a disgusting part of Brighton's culture and one to be avoided. The whole of West Street suffers from this: Yates's is the hub. Just leave it well alone. read more

I know a number of people who dislike this place simply because of their perception of this places image. So, as someone who has been in this particular Yates a number of times, I thought I should just clear some things up for the misinformed. Firstly, yes, some of the characters found in here aren't members of the Upper Class Gentry. Some of them may even be undesirable accompaniments to your evening's bar experience. However, they are generally not loud, nor are they violent or especially rude. So don't be worried that entering this abode might result in a knife wound. It won't. The people here aren't looking for a criminal record. They, like you, are simply trying to have a good time out with friends. Point two, the decor. Yes, it is not amazing. Yates is never going to win any awards for interior design. That said, this is not an upmarket establishment. If you want to relax in a bar, that spends more money on sofas than its alcohol selection, and where every drink costs the best part of a fiver, then head elsewhere. What Yates offers is a cheap and cheerful place to socialise with friends for a few affordable drinks. Point three, drinks and food. Both are reasonably priced, there's a fairly good selection of beverages, including spirits, beer, wine, corky's, and alcopops, and there are some 'ok' promotional offers. A Jager-bomb costs £4, four shots of Antica Sambuca £8, and on Saturdays selected shots go for a £1. There's good, friendly service, and you can pick up a plate of scampi and chips here for just £2, or a burger and a beer for £5.25. Furthermore, if the staff forget to offer you a side when you order, you can get one free. Finally, the music is quite good, there's a beer garden for all you smokers, fruit machine's for gamblers, and live football is shown here on a semi-regular basis. I've come here with friends a number of times and had numerous good evenings, without ever experiencing any trouble or bad memories. Thus, I would assert that if you come too Yates with an open mind, without any preconceptions, then I'm sure you can have a pleasant evening here. read more

Avoid avoid avoid! Infact avoid the whole of west Street! Its a hive for fighting and really bad bars and is an awful advertisement for people coming to Brighton on a Friday or a Saturday night. The only plus point of this place is the cheap drinks but personally, I would rather go to Tescos and buy a bottle of White Lighting cider and sit on a park bench in Baghdad than enter this place. read more

Yates's is a tough one to call; there is no denying that on the wrong night, you run the risk of being present at one of the most sordid and horrible places in town, but to many people, this is actually part of the charm. Bill R refers to vomit and urine with regards to Yates, but i'd ask you refrain from such snap judgements. Yates's is extremely cheap, offering things like vodka and red bull for the shocking affordable price of £1.50. Not only that, but Yates's is lively, with music cranked up from 7/8 o'clock at night, going right in to the small hours of the night. Entry is free, which for many people is another plus point. This really isn't my type of place at all, but I feel I should at least offer a few potential positives. read more

I didn't realize the full name included 'Wine Lodge'. Don't let that fool you into thinking that this place is anything other than a dive. This is just a shittier version of Wetherspoons, something I didn't think was possible. I ate here once and the food was acceptable but the place just isn't terribly clean and attracts a less than stellar crowd. It's best to avoid this place after dark, else you face the wrath of a high volume of chav's and other undesirables. read more

I really don't have much to say on the subject of Yates. This is just another soulless, West Street-based booze hole. Another chain pub specialising in cheap wine, cheap beer, lethal cheap cocktails and cheap food, every time I've been to this place it's been packed with incredibly drunk and rather unpleasant people. I just feel sorry for the staff, who are actually very nice. Even though I'm generally not a fan of chain pubs, you'd be far better heading to the Wetherspoons across the road or The Font around the corner if you're after a cheap night. True, you cannot fault Yates' mass appeal or pricing and there are people that really enjoy this type of place, but I'm most definitely not one of them. read more

Just the same as any Yates, with cheap and easy grub and booze. This one's decked out in funky felt wallpaper, with comfy sofas, canvas art work and big gold painted mirrors on the walls. Sports are played on the big screens, and unlike neighbouring Wetherspoons, it's not muted so you can actually hear the game. By day the pub's filled with families, screaming children and footy fans, and by night it becomes one of Brighton's busiest nightspots, getting packed to breaking point on weekends. The 2 for £5 cocktails on Fridays and £1.50 shots on Saturdays might have something to do with that, though. To be honest, Yates isn't one of my favourite places to go at night; Brighton's got so many more characteristic pubs, even if they are much more expensive. read more

On paper you might be forgiven for thinking that this is a lovely, cosy, warm Lodge selling lovely wines. Unfortunately you couldn't be further from the truth ! Situated in West Street (a haven for underage drinkers and hen nights) it is a relatively large branch of this chain pub. Always packed and always noisy. Always has drink promotions and attracts a predictable crowd (young girls and lairy lads). To be fair I'm just not the target audience for Yates anymore and can't deny that I have been in their in my younger days. I used to own a reasonably nice pair of shoes. They weren't particularly expensive, and I don't remember getting too many compliments on them, but I liked them. That is until I went to Yates'. I didn't see any signs advertising a pool party, but from the 1cm-2cm puddle of overturned £5 sex on the beach pitchers on the floor (the cheap drinks are the only reason that the dreaded one-star was avoided), it wouldn't have been out of question. Also, most of the girls were wearing little more than bikinis, so you'll have to forgive my confusion. So rest in peace, shoes. Your death by suffocation in booze, vomit, and urine will not be soon forgotten. And Yates' will not be soon revisited. read more

This place has really improved over the years. When I last went in I was quite impressed with how they had redone their decor. It now looks a lot nicer than it did before. It's just such a shame that it is located on West Street as it sadly attracts a lot of lairy people which I guess comes with the territory when the drinks are so cheap. read more

Perfectly pleasant pub/bar with good service, cheap drinks and fairly decent fast food. I went in the middle of the afternoon, so I can't attest either way to the rowdy nightlife crowd, but when I went, it was quiet and pleasant, and the decor was kind of edgy (well, generically edgy) and interesting - everything seemed generic in the same way the Wetherspoons and other such chains are, but the quality was a lot better than a Spoons and so was the atmosphere. Thoroughly recommend if you're looking for a quick drink/bite to eat and don't mind generic bar food. read more

What is there to really say about a Yates smack in the heart of a centre? Any pub that has bouncers on the door pretty much every night speaks volumes. Full of 18-25 year olds sloshed up on cheap promotions wearing same clothes as each other. It just has nothing distinctive about it and lacks class. But it is what it is, and if you don't know what to expect when you choose this as your drinking spot for the night then you soon will. read more

Visited Yates at 730 on a Tuesday Evening. We went in here solely for some cheap food as the kitchen in Wetherspoons across the road was closed due to refurbishments. The food was actually ok, Unfortunately this could not be same for the rest of our experience. We were served our drinks is plastic glasses. The toilets should be condemmed. The smell was unbearable, filthy floors, blocked toilets, dirty toilets, no loo roll, shabby decor, dirty sinks. Will defineately not be returning! read more
