It seems to me that people don't fully comprehend how other programs (especially those in government-run facilities in states outside of California) really take away the agency of the patient. I felt like I was in the driver's seat regarding my care from the moment of my intake to the minute of my discharge. Personally, I received nothing but the highest ethic of care and respect. The number of comments complaining about the urine testing seem especially misplaced to me. Is it inconvenient? Of course, especially if you have never had an issue with substance abuse. However, my background includes working in medical offices, so please understand that the urine testing is for more than just the detection of drugs; it's also vital to detecting anomalies within your body that could be missed otherwise. That background in medical offices has also taught me to understand that mistakes happen, and even the best offices still need patients to advocate for themselves. That's the reality of living in the society that runs managed healthcare the way it does. That's not to excuse rude or invalidating providers (and, in my experience, psychiatrists tend to be particularly short on bedside manners) but I think that's a far more legitimate issue to hold against this place, even as I have never experienced it myself. Without a doubt, the office isn't perfect--but no office is. And when it comes to mental illness, which is particularly unique to every individual, it's virtually impossible to expect any program or facility to be the solution for every potential client. For me, it worked, and I will always be grateful for that.

I called to reschedule an appointment and was told the provider was 4 months out. Luckily they had a telehealth spot that day. I entered the video call and the provider joined. But I was unable to turn on microphone or video on my end but I could hear and see the provider. I messaged him through the chat that I was having trouble. After a moment he stated her still couldn't see me. I messaged aging wanting to know if we could talk over the phone instead. After a moment he hung up. I called the office stressed and upset but couldn't reach anyone so I left a message. That was on Friday. A week has passed and no one from the office has reached out. I understand the office is busy with chico growing and more clientele. I am not blaming the provider. But mental health isn't something you can wait 4 months for to get checked out, especially when something sudden comes up. There is enough anxiety and stress associated with the sudden issue and need to reschedule, but then the office doesn't even call you back.

Please do yourself a favor and do NOT try to get therapy through this place. I went through being subjected to a series of unprofessional and even unethical issues trying to get in with this place. The first person I spoke with to book an appointment, Dana, was highly unprofessional in the way she handled my intake. Here are the issues I had to deal with when trying to go through this office: 1) I made an appointment with Dana to see Kyla on a Tuesday at 6:30pm. Less than 2 hours before the appointment, I still had not received a link for the TeleHealth visit, and had not received ANY communication from Dana. I had to reach out to Dana via text at 4:40pm, less than 2 hours before the appointment, because they did not answer the phone due to being in a meeting. Dana was texting me while in a meeting and telling me that they no longer wanted me to see Kyla due to them not wanting to have to do "intake all over again" (quoting directly from the text I am looking at) if I were to eventually see Kyla in person rather than through TeleHealth. She stated that she put me down as a "Pending Insurance and Appointment Verification" appointment. That doesn't matter, I never received any notice before my appointment to let me know that the appointment would not work. The entire time I had been expecting an appointment with Kyla that evening at 6:30pm. At 4:56pm, about an hour and a half before my appointment with Kyla at 6:30pm, Dana informed me that she would like to get me in with another provider (Kaela). Again, this is all an hour and a half before my appointment after COMPLETE radio silence and zero indication that my appointment would need to be rescheduled. The appointment with Kaela would have been while I am working, so she stated that she would reach out to Kyla and that Kyla would reach out to me directly. 2) Kyla DID reach out to me directly via text...at 5:19pm...just over an hour before my appointment. She stated (again, quoting from the text): "I was not expecting you today, due to the short notice." This "short notice" was because Dana NEVER informed Kyla until an hour and a half before my appointment that I had created an appointment with Kyla. Kyla then stated that she would have to see me NEXT Tuesday AND that Dana had given me the incorrect weekly time and that the opening was at 5:30pm and not 6:30pm. 3) Then Kyla told me she would send me the paperwork that evening, and never did. I had to text her TWO DAYS later to let her know I never received the paperwork. I didn't get a call until the next day, letting me know that I did not get the forms yet because I had never been set up with a portal. Dana NEVER told me I needed to set up a portal. I don't know how Dana got this job, but she is unprofessional and unethical. I gave her the benefit of the doubt, but it just got worse (see below). 4) I called and told Dana that my insurance was Anthem Blue Cross PPO. She got my membership number and looked it up and saw that I had a deductible. I mentioned that mental health visits do NOT apply to the deductible for my plan, and would only pay the $45 co-pay per visit. She looked at it and said that I am right and even said "Wow, you're on it, that's rare"! She never told me that it was out-of-network. Later on, when I spoke to the intake person, Britney, who was going to set me up with a portal, Britney told me that they are NOT in-network with my insurance and that I would not have a co-pay of only $45, and would instead need to pay $115-130 for visits until I meet my out-of-network deductible. I told her what Dana had told me, and she put me on hold and spoke to Dana while I was on hold. 5) Dana LIED and claimed that she never told me that the co-pay would be $45. I can handle a lot of things, because mistakes DO happen. But blatantly lying is unacceptable. I am now looking into potentially filing a complaint with the BBB and/or relevant State authorities.

I think Patrick is mostly interested in leasing his space to other therapists. In the seven or…read moreeight sessions we spent with Patrick there was zero response from him. He recommended a commonly referenced text and even broke out one of the worksheets from the text. But Patrick never made our appointments on time; not once. His office is upstairs and is locked. So when Patrick sashays on in 20-minutes late, you've been waiting in his parking lot for those 20-plus minutes. Then he walks in with you and opens up the office. Eventually you sit down and start to talk, and you're outta there before the hour is up. Our last meeting, I had to focus our discussion which was at least moving the ball forward some. Catharsis, which was good -- but not through any effort on Patrick's part. Nonetheless, after 8 sessions, finally progress. You know what? After arriving in his signature-late fashion for that session, at the end of the session he had left the building (locked up, the whole kit-and-kaboodle) before I could even get in my car in the parking lot. No notes to quickly scribble, nothing. He was out of his office before I was, and on such a cathartic appointment; that was reasonably odd. Finally, taking the hint we arrived 15 minutes late for our unplanned-final session. No Patrick. We contact him and he gave us the ol' "traffic by the airport" thing. This community doesn't have traffic problems like that. And wouldn't you know it, we didn't. We fired him on the spot. For a therapist, this is astounding. We'll be filing a complaint. I'm a little worried about billing seeing from other commenters. If it comes to that, we'll defend our insurance company from his billings. Evidently he is only interested in leasing his office space (that he will tell you he owns) to other therapists.

Started seeing him based on his status as an in-network provider with our insurance. After months of seeing him, he finally decided to bill my insurance but had become out-of-network in the meantime (which he failed to tell us). Attempting to resolve this issue with him initially, failed due to this complete lack of understanding of the actual issue or listening. After contacting the insurance, I quickly had a better understanding of what was going on than he did. It appears that he is either trying to bill insurance himself and doesn't understand anything - or he has the worst billing service that fails to keep him in the loop on things. We are now in the process of resolving this with the help of the insurance and the DMHC. Save yourself a lot of money and work and find another therapist!

I don't understand why it's so hard for people to get help especially when they are seeking it. There's more to this but seriously I'd look for a private practice for help. Not Butte behavior health!
