Delicious! I visited here recently with my sister who attends Purdue. We arrived around 7:30 on a Thursday and were seating right away. The interior is super cute with short tables and stools. We ordered octopus balls for a starter per our servers recommendation. I was a bit skeptical by the description but rest assure they are super tasty!! I also had the miso ramen which was super flavorful and full of silky noodles. I would definitely recommend Yatagarasu for anyone visiting the West Lafayette area! read more

Soooo good. Loved everything I tried. The calamari was great, and so was the takoyaki. The tonkatsu ramen was top notch

We've had ramen in Japan and throughout the United States and Asia and we like this place. Perhaps that makes the price premium (everything on the menu is about 15% higher than equivalent places in chicago etc.) worth it. We had both pork broth ramens and they were good, not too salty and the eggs, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, etc. were on point. These were the small servings of Ramen I have ever gotten anywhere but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Most places give you way too much. Their noodles are served barely cooked (al dente) which has its fans, but my wife's ramen was undercooked, still clumped and raw in parts, which is not optimal. (See pic) I was excited about Sapporo on tap, even for 7 bucks, but ours was sadly served in a freshly cleaned piping hot pint glass. I think this was an error rather than policy, but it did dampen my enthusiasm for the place a little. read more

Love their broths, gyoza, & chicken! Make reservations & ESPECIALLY IF ITS OVER 2 guests.

This restaurant just recently opened and today I tried it for lunch. I guess my hopes were too high, but I found it pretty disappointing. The atmosphere is cool and trendy. The place is very small and narrow. It was almost full when we arrived, so we sat at the bar-top on the wall. It's got a very industrial feel with unique lighting. The food was just OK for me. For $13 I would have expected homemade ramen noodles, considering how little toppings you get. I had the spicy miso ramen. The flavor of the broth was delicious, but it had two small pieces of pork in it. The other toppings were not generous either. The menu is very small and I just wasn't super impressed. read more

Highly recommended! Went here for a weekday lunch with a group of friends. It's a small place, but we quickly got seating. The service was fantastic. They have a funky variety of sake which I really enjoyed trying (the sparkling jelly berry one was yummy!). I had the Tonkotsu ramen which was delicious and the spicy miso ramen was great and true to its word - spicy! Definitely worth a visit. read more

1/3 food wise- I ordered the Garlic ramen and the tuna hand roll, The ramen was very good with the only problem being that it was a bit cold, the hand roll on the other hand had under cooked rice in it, making the overall roll chewy and unappetizing 1/1 customer service- When I did not know how the door worked to get into the dining area, a lady instructed me on what to do and was very nice about it 1/1 Dining experience- I loved the overall atmosphere of this place and the private little cubicles you sit in to eat your food. read more

Wow. I never really liked ramen, but also never had ramen at what I would call a ramen-specific restaurant. My meal was excellent. The restaurant is on a corner downtown. It tightly seats about 50, so it's a small place. We arrived at 6:00 on Thursday and got the last table for 2/4. All that was left was a huge 8-person table and two bar seats. As we ate, more and more people piled in and waited inside and out. At one point 12+ people were waiting. At a 50-seat restaurant that's a lot. Service was pretty fast and we had a great meal. They have a small menu consisting of Japanese appetizers, grilled meat sides, ramen bowls, and a few rice based dishes. I ordered pork tonkotsu with chili oil added. My wife also ordered pork tonkotsu but with spinach added. We both loved our meals. The pork was so good it's hard to describe. No idea how they do it. Soft boiled egg was also excellent. Really I generally dislike soup because it's boring and watery and I feel like I'm filling myself up with nothing. This soup was *totally* different. Depth of flavor made it seem like I was actually eating, not drinking soup. The noodles were cooked properly, which makes a big difference - overcooked noodles are just the worst. We also ordered the crispy brussels sprouts appetizer and a grilled chicken heart. Brussels sprouts were similar to what I make at home, but cool to have them at a restaurant. Chicken heart was seasoned with a dry pepper mixture. Was pretty good. Mostly just tasted like meat, but no complaints. The major downside to this place is it's size. You may have to wait quite a while. But if you can, I would suggest doing so. Excellent, excellent meal. Oh, also the chairs are effectively backless so if you can't sit on a stool-like seat, that may be an issue for you. read more

I'm not sure what the rave is about, perhaps limited options? The broth is bland and all dishes are over priced. Ordered beef tongue appetizer that delivered after the ramen and it was dry and lacked any seasoning at all. I will say my wife is less picky than I am and she rated her dish a 2.5. I rate it a 1.5 at best so I rounded up. It's a college scene and atmosphere with relatively cramped seating. Service was subpar and slow for drinks and as I mentioned I assume the late appetizer was her fault. The best part of my dish was the soft to medium boiled egg. Sorry no pictures to offer. We may give it another shot but really I can make better at home and there is no other draw to revisit. read more

Great food, speedy delivery, the atmosphere of the place is fresh and interesting and comfy. The restrooms are super cute. The food is expensive and that's the only thing I could complain about - but the food is worth the price so the price is not detracting any stars for me. You want authentic ramen? We love ramen. Every time we travel new cities, we always stop by ramen place. This is a hidden gem in Lafayette area. We were so surprised the fact that we haven't come this place for the last two years. We just underestimated for some reason. However, this place got us! We planned to try all the manus this Summer! One thing to improve is the cutting direction of lemon in fried calamari in my picture. This cutting direction makes us harder to squeeze properly. You can find easily from Google search. read more

This restaurant just took the fun out of eating ramen. I am on a low carb diet, and requested for my Tonkatsu Paitan to have more vegetables instead of noodles, the server refused to do it. I said I will pay for it, like what it says on the menu, and she said ok. I paid for two additional vegetables, do you know how big the serving was? A small dollop of each. So imagine eating, two very thinly sliced flavorless pork with the small portion of mushroom that they have a few pieces of bamboo shoots, in a tall bowl of very salty broth with a few strands of steamed spinach and a tablespoon of wilted sprouts (mind you it's cold and already wilted down) albeit the eggs were perfect. It was not worth the $15 I paid for, I couldn't even chug the broth as it was too salty. read more

If you are Asian, you will be disappointed with so called Ramen which is a salty soap plus instant noodle, costing you $14. When my son and I had a dinner there, our order was misplaced making us waiting for one hour. This is the worst Raman ever in the world, from Tokyo to Shanghai to Paris to Seattle to San Francisco to LA to New York. If you really miss ramen, go to Walmart buy a instant noodle and cook it well with Miso soap. read more

Parking is actually pretty hard to find a lot of times. They have a parking lot behind the building but I believe it requires a permit to park there. However, the place was easy to find because it is located at the corner and has a big sign on the entrance. Food wise... I would say this is the best ramen place in Lafayette-West Lafayette area. I always come for the garlic tonkotsu because I really love the broth. But, I do think they could add more meat to the ramen and make the noodle more chewy to make things better. read more

Got spicy veggie ramen and it was delicious! It was one of the most savory vegan dishes I've had. The first time I got this the noodles were green in the veggie ramen and I didn't like the taste or texture very much. Last time I went I asked for the regular noodles and it was fantastic. read more

4/5 for taste: Went there last night with friends for carry out. The cold udon with shrimp was Delicious! And the udon itself was perfectly cooked. YUMMY 2/5 for service: They took my order, and 2/3 of my friends. One was totally ignored and they started taking the orders of the people behind him. Also we were waiting just outside the door, in order to not crowd the place. After waiting quite a bit (for reference, ignored friend walked down to Bru, ordered, came back with his take out) before I went in again to see where our orders were, and they had been on the take out table for well over 5 minutes. We would go back again, however next time we will make sure EVERY one gets their order in. read more

Just get the garlic ramen. That's all. Have a good day. Haha, no, seriously. However, beware that it IS very garlicky. BUT if you're a fellow garlic lover, you'll find yourself craving it at 3am, too! Loved the little basket to the side of the table for purses. Such a thoughtful touch that I'd never seen before. Service was top notch, and they quickly accommodated my husband & I as a walk-in on a busy Friday night. Although it was a bit pricey, it was well worth it & we can't wait to return! read more

A gem among downtown Lafayette's restaurants. It has a relaxed atmosphere and a truly welcoming feel. Plenty of options to choose from, including choices for those who are vegan and gluten free. The saké list is impressive and all choices are delicious. My favorite ramen is the volcano ramen with added chili oil. The menu has many options to choose from and are all delicious and authentic. If you haven't eaten here, it is for sure worth the stop! read more

To be honest, this is the only ramen restaurant I have ever eaten at. That being said, I have visited twice in the past month (once for lunch and once for dinner) and have not been disappointed. I have had two different ramens, tea, sake, and crispy Brussels sprouts (which are an absolute must). The thin pieces of pork are sweet and savory, the broths are beautiful in their umami quality, and their menu makes Japanese food very approachable for any interestednon-foodie. The only criticism I have for Yatagarasu is that they are too successful for their new-ness. They sometimes run out of food/tea, and last week their phone was out, making it impossible to make a reservation. I do look forward to coming back over the next year and see them grow into their success! read more

I love this place! You have to get there at the right time or with a small party because the place does fill up quickly. The service and wait times for food are incredibly fast and my water cup never dips below half empty, which is greatly appreciated. The Miso Spicy Ramen is so delicious with just the right level of spice. I don't usually eat pork but the chashu pork that comes with the ramen is so incredibly tasty that I always make an exception and eat it. The gyoza and edamame are my go-to appetizers and they always come out very quickly. I love this place and can't recommend it highly enough. read more

Wow. As someone that loves all ramen, I've never been this disappointed. I've been around ramen since young, and lucky to have been around people who made ramen. I will say this straight up, somewhere in the procedure of making broth, they're missing steps. The chashu as well, you can tell it wasn't tied tight enough. The texture, the flavor, it's all off. And not to mention, the price! These are city prices. I was so unsatisfied, I had to go and buy ingredients right after and go home to make my own. 8 hours into boiling bones, decided I should prolly leave a review. Not trying to sound like I'm some special gourmet or chef, but I just couldn't imagine getting the very basics wrong, *as a restaurant!* All the equipments are there, you can even look up recipes online. My reasoning for them is that maybe I'm there on a bad day? But then even the garlic oil wasn't done right. Just put in a little more effort and do things the right way. Oven the garlic, peel on till burnt, then use a mixer (or mortar and pestle). No matter which style, Japanese black garlic oil has always been made this way. If you gonna make Japanese food, follow the tradition, the proper steps! Japanese food is about following the tradition, the intricate steps, and there would be no surprises! I apologise for sounding harsh, but the product was exactly what it is. I've never given such a review for any place, but again, no place has shocked me with food like this place did. Great service and atmosphere though, don't take credit away from the people that work there, it's definitely seems like a great place for date or to hangout and grab a drink, but I wouldn't go for ramen. Added 1 star for the great service! P.S. My judgement is solely tied to tonkotsu ramen. P.s. roommate adds : if y'all wanna come try some tonkotsu broth, shoot us a message and stop by hahaha. Also for those who wanna try making your own, all the ingredients can be found at Better World Market. You can buy a pound of pork bone (knees), pork fat and also pork belly for Chashu. read more

Easily the best ramen in town. Mostly because they have their soft boiled egg down to perfection. My only complaint is that the soup always comes out half warm. It may be because the veggie toppings are cold and it drops the temperature of the broth but when I think of ramen (or any other noodle soup), I think of piping hot broth. It's part of what makes the dish so comforting. Otherwise, the service is fantastic and the ambiance feels authentic. read more

I could have came at a bad time, but the food was missing flavor, the fish cake in the Ramen was rubbery, and Gyu Don was also missing flavor (and overpriced). One of the best places to go eat ramen in Lafayette. I love all the options they have for their different types of ramen. The only thing that has consistently happened that I am not a fan of is when I ask for a certain ingredient be taken out, it still comes in the food. This has happened multiple times, but other than that, the food is really delicious and I really enjoy it. I also love the atmosphere of the restaurant and how it's laid out. read more
