Xian Gourmet Food Company @Unit #1100 Yaohan Centre Food Court.  This place specializes in Northern Chinese Cuisine. I went there for an early supper & ordered Wonton Noodle Soup (#31) & the Pork Hamburger Bun (#22).  The bill came to $15.  The friendly lady who took my order charged me  a refundable soup bowl levy of $2.00 at the start of ordering.  That means you get $2 back for returning the bowl to their kiosk when you finish eating. When I went to retrieve my order after 5 -8 minutes, the bowl of  wontons (11 in total - maybe 12 - I may have miscounted as I was plenty hungry and started eating)  were plump & the soup was mild tasting with baby bok choy & seaweed accompaniments.  I preferred my order to be mild & not spicy but condiments were available at the counter with chili sauce/oil for those who wanted more flavor. It was well worth the purchse. The best part was the wide, thick flat noodles. I have been this mall over a decade. But, I never thought to write a review for it. I used to buy my shampoo and conditioning on 2/F and get my foreign exchange at Kingmark currency exchange shop. But now, I only sop for groceries shopping at Osaka Supermarket and I guess they are most cleanness and busiest T&T supermarket. read more

Parking aside (always a personal gripe) this place still rocks for Asian whutevah ya need. I'm still wary of some of the ingredients in some of the packaged foods but the fresh veggies are always good here. Espeically for the mushrooms and the organic salads that come in those containers. Most of they time they're cheaper than what you pay for at Safeway. Usually because Asians don't really eat raw salads? And those lovely as American as Apples can be imported from China. and sold for consumption in Canada. Sometimes I miss the home grown fruits and veggies, which if in season,you can still buy. At least here you can get the exotic fruits and veggies that you can't get at thier sister chain Loblaws/superstores or a Save-On or Safeway. This was an unexpected but very pleasant find within walking distance of my airport hotel. I was stuck at the hotel which does not have its own restaurant so was looking for something to eat. My immediate easy choices were fast food across the street or ordering a pizza to be delivered, neither of which sounded good. I'm sure glad I asked the front desk where they would go as they steered me down No. 3 Road about half a mile to the Yaohan Center. It is not that easy to find because the signage and the building are largely obscured by the elevated train platform right in front of it. Probably best to find it by following the line of Asian drivers trying to turn into the congested parking lot with many circling cars looking for a parking spot. I walked inside and the first thing I noted was a food court to the right, a vendor directly in front of me selling electric rice cookers, and a great grocery store to the left. There was so much to take in from the front door that I had to stand there for about 5 minutes just to understand all my options. I finally noticed an escalator and decided to explore the center which turns out to really be a 2 story small indoor mall. The 2nd floor is all shops, a medical and dental office, a travel agency and the restrooms. The 1st floor is really all the interesting stuff for me, especially the large food court! There were many options at the food court, almost all Chinese except for the lone Korean vendor. I also noted that sushi and sashimi is available for take away in the market but other than that, you had better like Chinese food if you are coming here to eat. I would say that the food vendors and things that I ate were above average but none were over the top outstanding. However, they were all also under $8 CAD which makes them about as cheap as a Happy Meal in the US and this was so much better than that. It is cash only in the food court so come prepared and there are signs all over the place to pay attention to your belongings as there are apparently a lot of hoodlums that wander in for snatch and grab opportunities when you are not looking. Probably the best part of this experience is that the central area to sit is very heavily occupied by ethnic Chinese so as you sit down to eat you can watch and listen to an entire foreign culture all while enjoying a tasty meal. There are rolling racks scattered around that you are supposed to bus your used trays to when finished but there are also workers coming by to clean and they came and cleared my tray for me before I had a chance to clear it myself. I ended up getting a few things to try and sat there for a long time feeling like I was on an immersion trip to mainland China. It was a really satisfying experience when I thought about how I could have been sitting alone in my hotel room choking down a whopper instead. read more

We had a quick bite at this food court which has at least 13 or more varieties of fast food restaurants. Prices are not expensive at all. We also ordered a rice wrap filled with 4 kinds of food at your choice for $2.99 inside the supermarket (Osaka?) there where we picked up lots and fresh bakery items (T&T?) including many loafs of the square breads, wheat, multigrain, some with red bean filling, onion and ham...............just came out from the oven. This is a small center as compared with other bigger ones. such as Metro Town in Burnaby which is more newer and huge that has more up scaled shops...... that was where we were heading to shop next....................... read more

Seriously, this place must get so many fender benders. But the stores are great, bathrooms are clean, and it's the place to go for food and shopping. Yaohan contains what is easily my favourite grocery store! The food within the centre also reminds me of what you can get in HK. Let's start with the grocery store, Osaka. The first "station" I usually go to is the rice roll (fan tuan) station. I usually buy 2 for breakfast and one to eat right then and there. So delicious! It is a bit pricey, but considering how much work it is to make your own, I would just pay them. Another station that isn't always there is the Peking Duck hand rolls that they make. Absolutely delicious! Then I usually wander into the beverage and snacks aisles as they have beverages that are not available in the states. They are definitely cheaper than online, so I don't mind lugging it home. They just have such an array of snacks that I can't get over it. So I always end up with at least one beverage and one snack to take home with me. Now onto the food court area. Had some, but not everything. The most amazing thing you can actually get there is the chinese desserts/herbal foods shop. It is the one with a very traditional old school gold Chinese letter sign. I remember as a kid, going to a place like that, I would love their Chrysanthemum tea and eat the guilinggao. It is super detoxing and takes many ingredients to make some of the drinks they offer, so they are of great value to get. Not many people appreciate that stuff, but truly it is a hidden treasure. So don't forget to try all the stuff here. I am a definite FAN! read more

Where the Asian girls/guys hang out! I love this place because this is considered a a mixture of Japanese and Chinese shopping mall in Vancouver and it's great because I'm half Japanese/Chinese too :) If you're from Los Angeles, this place is like FOCUS PLAZA in San Gabriel, but better in my opinion because I like how it's laid out and it's easier to navigate around and also because the supermarket has Japanese food and Japanese bookstore on the second floor. I think that Focus Plaza caters mostly to Chinese people. I didn't try anything from the food court on the first floor, but it looked really nice and it was spacious. I guess it is a great place to go for CHEAP Chinese food/delicacies that reminds you of food from back home :) A great place worth checking out in VANCOUVER! PS: I came here with a white guy and he was the only Caucasian there so there were some stares but we had fun anyway! So be prepared to get stared at, but that shouldn't be a concern :) read more

I arrived at the mall early and decided to park and wait outside until it opened. When I got back to my car, I found a "parking notice" from Imperial Parking charging me $80. It read "PARKED BEFORE 8:30AM NOTALLOWED". They claim I was parked at 8:14am, a whopping 16 minutes before the store opened. There were maybe 6 other cars in the entire lot at that time of day (it's pretty quiet in the morning). So I'm not sure what problem they're trying to solve here except needing to gin up extra revenue, at the cost of alienating their most motivated customers. We're visiting from the United States (Bienvenue au Canada!), so I don't really have the time or energy to fight this. I tried to contact them via their website, but they ignored me. So if you want to shop at Yaohan, I'd recommend the following: - Don't arrive early. Check the website to make sure you know the exact hours. - Make it clear to anyone who might be watching that you are going straight from your car to the mall. Don't wait (as I did) outside the mall. If the mall happens to be closed, return to your car immediately, leave, and only return after it is open. - Get your stuff, get a receipt, and get out. Keep the receipt until you are safely back at your car. While at Yaohan, don't linger, mingle, or Facebook. Or, if all this sounds like too much of a hassle, you can just take your business somewhere else. read more

Visiting Yaohan Centre is kind of like being dropped in the middle of a buffalo stampede. I am always surprised that I make it in and out of this store alive because I typically expect to be ran over by a minivan or have grandmas knock me upside the head with moon cakes. Its only redeeming quality is the fact that they have the best deli selection out of any grocery store I have ever seen. Forget everything anyone has ever taught you about common courtesy and you'll fare just fine at Yaohan. No one here really cares if you were waiting patiently in line first. No one cares if you get customer service, either. Whatever anyone will do to slight you at Yaohan, you may as well get over it now. However, it's the best place to find Asian goods, cold eats, and hot foods in the Vancouver area. I am partial to their buffet line of baked goods and it's good to note that some are made better than others. I don't particularly care for the ones with too much bread like their pineapple bun. However, I do recommend their freshly baked toast, taro breads, and savory pastries. I can't say anything for their produce. The only thing I've purchased from their produce section was frozen durian and it was the best durian I have had to date. That fact alone is worth noting because durian is the fruit of gods. Walking around, they also have random Asian crap thrown about in different aisles, from cosmetics, to packaged goods, frozen items, and different specials depending on the season or holiday. Their hot deli never bores me. They have everything from your basic Asian goods like tea eggs, sashimi, BBQ pork buns, noodles, sandwiches, to more adventurous eats like vinegared chicken feet, tripe salad, chicken liver, and other intestinal goods. Beyond having an array of food items, all of them are made fairly well. If you grow tired and weary, you can always walk to Aberdeen Center to refresh. read more

We went here specifically for the foodcourt... and man, was the food horrible! I don't even remember the names of the stalls we bought our food from... but everything was greasy and very unappetizing. One of the stalls we bought from was between two other exactly-the-same stalls, with piles of food in warmer trays... and you can pick three things with rice/noodles for $5.99. Just gross. The other stall we bought from also had food in warmer trays (but not piles... mostly stuff that actually belonged in warmer trays), and I ordered deep-fried pork cutlet. So what do I get for $5.99 + tax? A thin pork cutlet, hardly breaded, fried in days-old oil, drenched with some sour liquid, atop a bed of beansprouts and rice drizzled with hoisin sauce?! The entire dish was several shades of gray! Not even a free drink, nor a dash of colour. I can't speak for any of the other dozen or so food court stalls... but still, this is two stars for me. read more

*This review is based on the food court inside Yaohan. Great selection to choose from with all the different Chinese food offerings from one stand to the other. There is a total of about 10 different food stands here and they mostly have their own spin on what they offer. When we last came here this past weekend, my gf and I ate here twice due to the convenience and nice selection they have here of fresh and tasty food. On my first meal I tried the Chinese BBQ stand and it was one of the best BBQ I have had in a long time. I had gotten the 3 meat choice which consisted of BBQ pork, roast pork and BBQ duck. The 3 were all great and tasty. They even added a complimentary cup of soup if you ate there. The second time I went there I tried one of the stands which served just Chinese entrees. The choices were more than your standard Panda Express and more authentic. I had gotten sweet and sour pork, soy sauce chicken and Chinese broccoli. For a 3 choice entree it cost only about $7. Yaohan supermarket is convenient. When I'm too lazy to cook and I can pick up the meals at their hot deli. Lucky for the people in Richmond. There are a lot more choices! They have a Western bakery which isn't too bad (3/5) Including cakes, breads, cookies and pastries. Or I can also dine at the food court. My favorite is the guy who sells congee and noodles. I don't like the Curry and Korean food stall. Like Asian malls they have gift shop, boutiques, CD shop. Located upstairs and it's pretty quiet. Nothing exciting up there. But, I come here to browse for kitchen appliances. Or to look at real estate in the BC area that I may consider purchasing. It seems that I always run into some old friends in Yaohan. If you're bored like we were and looking for something to do at 9pm on a weeknight, check out this grocery / shopping center / food court in Richmond BC. There were definitely some good eats there (check out the other reviews) although most places were closed by the time we came through. The huge grocery store closes at 9:30pm so we spent most of their time in there eyeing all the Asian goods, seafood, meats, produce, etc. The bakery had some nice stuff and I picked up some stuffed mochi balls which were great. read more

OSAKA SUPER MARKET! I've been coming to Yaohan Centre for as long as I can remember. I used to come up to Vancouver all the time when I was younger. What I love about this place is how affordable and great quality all of the produce and food is. The Osaka Super Market is full of fresh fruits, veggies, snacks, take out, meats, drinks, and a full bakery! I love to get the specialty breads here, as well as the Asian toast. The egg tarts here are also really, very good. I really like the take out food here, including the sticky rice balls! They are custom made with your choice of purple or white rice. I like the purple rice with pork sung, tea egg slices, pickled vegetables, and sausage. Yum! The pig ears and bean curd threads are also yummy. I haven't been back for a while, I hope to venture out to here as often as I used to! read more

I love this place!!! I come here every time I go to Vancouver. You have to go to the supermarket and get some of their cold items that they make on the daily. If you like pig ear or all that good stuff most people might cringe when thinking about, then this is the place for you. You can also get some pretty awesome pastries here. Also, I love the food court. Some things are ok, but if you want bubble tea or egg waffles, this is a great place to get those asian/Richmond staples. The whole 45 minutes I was in there, I was captured by this thought: "There's a small mall dedicated to Asians!? " It was just hard to wrap my mind around honestly. This place has a food court which I would give as standard food court quality. It wasn't amazing, but it was food. It was only cool, 'cause it was all Asian foods. They have a grocery mart inside and other little stores which sell typical quality of items that your would find in Asian. There was a whole store dedicated to herbs. Parking is really tight. Very good Asian shopping mall, beside Toronto, Vancouver has the next best Asian shopping malls in North America. You hear that California??? When I was working in Washington (Bangor, Bremerton and Seattle), I would frequently drive 2.5-3 hours to Vancouver. I would stop by Yohan Centre and see what they have. On the first floor, half of the Yohan Centre is a big and clean Asian supermarket. They have all kinds of fresh Chinese groceries and yummy pastries. Once, I bought a 12" Hazelnut cake and flown it back to Ohio. Yea yea, they put my cake thru the Xray machine... sigh. The cake was really good minus the radiation, not too sweet, just like the one in Hong Kong. Very impressive with the stuffs they sell. On the other side of the Yohan Center, it's a very large food court. A lot of small vendors selling Chinese deli... BBQ pork, Congee, many many things. Cheap and good eats. Second floor has few shops... but not as busy as first floor. Not much to see. I usually just hang around the first floor... yummy food court... and food sample at the supermarket. Parking can be a pain, but luckily there's a parking garage next to Yohan Centre. read more

Excellent location in the heart of Richmond, BC. Across from Aberdeen Centre. This Asian mall has quite a bit of shops and food vendors inside and also has the T&T Supermarket inside. There is free parking outside of this mall. However, that gets drastically busy especially during the weekends. Come early in the late morning to avoid long crowds if possible! Lots of Mandarin and Cantonese speaking staff and customers in the mall. Even for tourist, I highly recommend coming to this mall. read more

T&T market rocks. I love it. I wish we'd have one in the Bay Area. If we did, I'm sure it would become run down and dirty like Ranch 99 in no time. The shops upstairs are nothing special. There's a Japanese bookstore (the only one I know of in the GVA), but it's a bit pricey compared to Kinokuniya in SF. The food court is pretty decent. Unlike the other area food courts, this one stays open late -- until 9pm. My one complaint is that there are far too many steam tables offering the same thing for the same price -- 4 items on rice for $5.50. It's a pretty good deal, but it's extremely MSG-sy. Closer to closing time (after 7:30pm), the steam table vendors will start liquidating their offerings for a ridiculously low price of 4 large orders for $10 (a large order is comparable to a family-style dish ordered at a Chinese restaurant). That's right, 4 for $10, or $8 USD! read more

We've been coming here for the past 9 years. We would always stopped by and get our currency exchanged. I love the grocery store inside, especially their deli. We would grab their sushi and some dim sum to go. The baked goods inside the grocery store are so fresh and good! I'm so addicted to their mango gummies. Their food court is like heaven (if you love eating Asian dishes like myself) and many to choose from. A girlfriend of mine drove to Canada and picked up some lunch for us on her way back. How do you rank this thing, based on one section, or on a whole? I finally, after a long, long, long time came back here with my partner to waste some time and decided from top to bottom, to walk the entire mall to see what has changed. The what, as in change, is the top floor, with the over saturation of 'Asian' influenced malls in this area, there is only so much money to go around and people always flock to the next new thing which has really left the upstairs of this place in shambles, it's a former image of itself. I use to remember a huge Japanese book shop, a mini video arcade, a puzzle shop, a toy shop, just to name a few from my childhood memories. Now, no more, they are no where to be found, you still have some of the old businesses around, from an portrait shop to some very tacky wedding dress places, to a hairdresser, but there is no life up here, as most of the patrons are downstairs, it's sad to see. The real things that are keeping the 'Centre' alive are the Osaka Supermarket and the food court. If your looking for a place to shop for groceries, this is one of the busier ones in town, and most people who park in that lot there are coming for this. Multiple entrances into the centre from the lot, whether cutting through the food court, or the front and back entrances, this main centre is very accessible. If you want the better 'T&T' in Richmond, this is the one, and it's only a walk away from President Plaza. The other star here is the food court, with it's cheap bubble tea vendors (one has buy one get one free for their regular ones still going on), congee specialty vendor, a Curry King, Want Want is here (yet I don't see their lamb buns that I so love from Crystal Mall), a place that shows they serve organic turtle jelly (wtf?) and 3 vendors that are side by side by side to eachother serving practically the same crap of rice and 3 - 4 selections (how does this work). This food court is not bad, good variety, good food, another reason I'd come to Yaohan. You maybe scared from the picture you saw of the car that was trying to park and hit the parked car, but really you don't see that everyday. It's not a bad place to catch a bite, or to buy some food for home, it's just a little bit more quiet than what I was used to from before. read more

Anytime you get a chance to visit Vancouver BC. Always visit Yaohan Centre in the heart of Richmond No.3 Road. This mall is filled with endless amounts of great chinese food. Also there is a huge grocery store that sells everything. The food court is the best around and withstanding for at least the last 20 years. read more

Yaohan has a Osaka market (which is bascially a t&t.) I prefer this one to the one in Metrotown. Everything seems to be a lot fresher here. The food court is awesome as well. Decent prices, authentic and usually you won't have a problem getting a seat. Best to come early though. read more

The grocery store downstairs is good. Has most things that you might want. Although it is run by TNT, the food stuff seems to be a better selection. BTW, never ever buy TNT house brand anything, they are truly awful, awful...tried many. Their meat is ok, their seafood is ok, their veggies are ok. Somehow, I always end up stopping by here everytime I visit Richmond. I think, wait, I know its because of the bakery they have here. Fresh breads, pastries, buns, and whatever carbs you want! Tasty stuff, but go earlier as they tend to run out of certain things by the end of the day. On the upside, they have end of day specials on prepackaged fresh foods. I got some dim sum sticky rice and froze it one I got home. Everything is fresh, not overly salty or sweet. Good stuff, but it can get packed. read more

Just got back from Yaohan Centre. This place is a sure bet if you're not sure where to go around Richmond. There's a huge food court on the ground level selling a variety of Asian food fare. We got there around 8pm, and a few Chinese stir-fry stalls were dishing out specials: a $10 meal fit to feed a family of four people. We chose fried rice, sweet and sour pork, mixed vegetables and tofu. OMG, the two of us didn't even come close to finishing it. Definitely value for money, and reasonably tasty too. If lunch or supper isn't what you're looking for, then head on over to check out Osaka Supermarket which is essentially the upscale counterpart of the T&T supermarket chain. There's a bakery attached to the entrance where you can get your typical Asian pineapple bun, egg tarts, red bean pasties, creamed sponge cakes, the works. Today, the place was exceptionally festive with Lunar New Year decorations and festival items on sale. Visiting Yaohan Centre is like going back to Asia. LOL. read more

I came here for the dragon whisker dessert and I got it! THAT made my weekend. Aside from that, great food court and supermarket filled with good eats. My friend was able to find both the custard egg tarts and Portuguese egg tarts he was looking for and I was able to enjoy three boxes of my much-missed dragon whiskers.
