The store had OK products in it and most of the staff are friendly except for an employee named Juli. Juli is extremely rude and mean with customers in the store. The way she talks down to people is very condescending and degrading. She is very argumentative and combative. She is short, probably in her 30s or 40s, has glasses, with brown shoulderlength hair. She should not be upfront checking customers out with this type of personality. She may be a good worker but should not be at the storefront representing the Vermont Country Store/Yankee Surplus with that type of attitude. She should be in the back room stocking shelves with no communication or interaction with customers. read more

This place has stuff I didn't even know I wanted! There are toys from my childhood here; toys I didn't even know we're still manufactured. Things such as: Fisher-Price record players and Chatter phones (you know, the ones with the DIALS...rotary phones, for those who prefer the more technical term. :) ) There are Wooly Willies, little green army men and those plastic parachute guys. So many memories to be had here! I found a cat treat shooter. ..don't bother. For $15 bucks it doesn't shoot well enough to buy it. They were having a tent sale when I was there. You MUST know prices or you will be unhappy with your over-priced purchase. I got a couple of pair of pajamas for $10/pair and felt I got a bargain. Other things were not as well priced. This place is just a natural beauty with flowers everywhere (in the summer). Loved coming here and spending time and money in this store. They have great products and items that you certainly will not find at your local Walgreens. However, the prices are a bit on the expensive side so don't come here looking for a bargain. Deceptive practices regarding shipping: excessive shipping charges, failure to deliver items in a timely manner, not delivering products when stated. I ordered a gown and robe from Vermont Country Store. One of the items was available for immediate shipping, the other item was on back order. At the time purchase was made, $18.95 shipping charges were added to the total. The robe, weighed 6 tenths of a pound and took 13 days to be delivered. This is their "Standard Delivery", and was the cheapest shipping option. No further information was provided regarding the status of the back order. So now I have a robe with no gown, that I paid $18.95 to be delivered, and it took 13 days to get it here. In California. When it was shipped from: Vermont. This is insane! Nearly $20... To ship something STANDARD DELIVERY... That weighs a smidge more than half a pound, is a normal mail item requiring no special handling whatsoever, and is a domestic shipment. It's pretty clear to me that not only is Vermont Country Store vastly overcharging for their merchandise, but is making profit on shipping fees, as well. These folks are deceptive cheaters. A friend ordered some retro shampoo they advertised as exactly like the original. $15. For a small bottle of shampoo. NOT INCLUDING shipping charges! Never will I order from these people again. It's clear their schtick is luring people in with difficult to locate items, then charging insane "shipping and processing" fees. Buyer beware. Even after you agree to pay their exorbitant shipping charges, that delivery date keeps.... changing! 20$ SHIPPING...HALF A POUND... 13 DAYS.... Then... The icing on this rotten cake? Website change! Mobile site only available now from iPhone... CANNOT EVEN ACCESS ACCOUNT OR ORDER HISTORY ANY MORE, with their "new site". So clearing up issues now means, yep... Ordered poppyseed roll on Tuesday.Was told it would be shipped on Wednesday and paid for 2 day FedEx delivery, which translated to it arriving before 8PM Friday. Nothing. Called them. After a long time on hold I was told it would probably be there tomorrow. Remember this is a food product that goes bad fast when not refrigerated. I said tomorrow wasn't acceptable and that I wanted a complete refund given they didn't live up to their delivery promise. I have never visited the store but am reviewing the store's online business. I am surprised I ever paid the shocking prices this store commands for it's merchandise. It's marketing approach is appealing primarily to the nostalgic consumer by offering items that haven't been generally available in years. What has prompted me to write this review is not the unreasonable prices but the store's reluctance to publish negative reviews by it's customers. I purchased an item online and was requested to write an review. My review was polite and intelligently written but was NOT accepted and published because I rated the product negatively rather than positively. In my opinion it is deceptive not to provide consumers with all available information most especially honest reviews by their customers. I ordered three things that I wanted before Christmas. I placed the order December 7th. Two items they had sold out of and told me a week before they were due...a Christmas balsa centerpiece and some fancy cheddar cheese. I will never order from this company again. I ordered old fashioned candies for the children for Christmas. I ordered them on the 13th of December.. a full week and a half to get to Texas from Vermont. I tracked it and for whatever reason the shipper used some ungodly slow method utilizing both FED EX and USPS. The package as been in Texas for over a week now but still not delivered., Christmas was 2 days ago. I'm so disappointed. I just want to talk about how nice these people are. My mother-in-law died last week and in her last year she just went crazy with catalogue orders, ordering all sorts of stuff that just sat in the closet and that she never used. Some of that was from Vermont Country Store and when I called to explain the situation they couldn't have been nicer, more helpful, or more understanding. They said that it was fine to send their items back so long as they were in the original condition we'd received them in, and that I could then get it credited back to her credit card, which the bank would then refund. My wife and I are just immensely grateful and how they responded. They just couldn't be nicer people. read more

I want to rate this higher but a bad experience with an employee ruined that. I've been going in here for several years and my girlfriend & I always drop around 100 bucks a visit. For rural Vermont this place isn't cheap!! Dogs are allowed in the store on a leash on hot days & I had my blue heeler with me. As we were walking through the store a woman in her 50's (?) approached us & snapped at me that just because dogs were allowed in the store doesn't mean we could walk around in the food section!! She delivered this message with the dirtiest look. I'm in retail and we have a meeting EVERY morning on customer service!! This woman has no business working with the public. These folks at the Country Store have the worst return policy I have encountered !!!! I paid $13.95 shipping and handling, and the return costs are....$8.95. Insult to injury. $22.90 down the drain. Life is too short. Zappos has the same products and a NO COST return policy and a no cost shipping fee. ZERO!!! I feel like a fool, and now I know better. Live and learn. Beware of ordering products on line. I'm a huge fan of the Vermont store and whenever I'm in Vermont I never miss an opportunity to visit their store to buy. So I was very disappointed with my experiences ordering night shirts on line. When I placed the order I was surprised by the length of time it would take, 6-8 weeks but placed the orders anyhow because I love the product. The first order took 12 weeks and the second one was delayed because they were out of the item and having problems with their on line ordering web site. I was told it would be another 3 weeks and today I received a letter informing me they no longer are carrying that product...after 4 months of waiting. Hopefully this review will wake them up to fix their on line web site and the long delays getting items shipped out. read more

The product I ordered from the Vermont Country Store, a robe, is of good quality, so I have no complaint about that. The reason for my negative review is because Vermont Country Store spams their customers with unsolicited catalog mailings. I run my business through my postal box, and my postal box is small. It is quite irritating when my box gets stuffed with large bulky catalogs that I don't want. And the Vermont Country Store is aggressive with its mailings; their catalogs are issued with high frequency. They don't ask your permission to send catalogs, they just spam you. So I wrote to them and asked for the mailings to stop. Their email reply was revealing. No the mailings will not stop immediately. There are a bunch of catalogs still in a queue, they've passed the mailings off to another firm, so I'm still going to get a bunch more spam. But eventually, I am told, the spam will cease. Then I was enthusiastically given details of how I could sign up for more spam at any time! Not one word was expressed in their email about whether spamming their customers is an appropriate business tactic. My conclusion: The marketing department at Vermont Country Store is completely out of control. What Vermont Country Store needs to do is the following: Ask customers first whether they want to receive catalog mailings. That is basic courtesy. I would have given Vermont Country Store 5 stars, were it not for the horrible and stupid spam policies of this company. read more

Products are great but I just tried to reorder my Dad's fav bacon as a father's day gift and it was a nightmare! 45 mins to place my order (once online and once by phone). Valid coupon code didn't work and I never did get it. Confirmed order did not actually get confirmed. I was completely irritated that after "chatting" on live chat for 20 mins I was told that they had just done updates to their website that were obviously having problems, and that I should just reorder everything by phone. A few weeks ago I placed my first order with this company. I was looking for two rugs for my kitchen, placed the order the received an email saying order was being prepared..I was very happy until I noticed they did not change my credit card. I called and was told the item was sold out, the lady said she would have someone call me on Monday, I had placed the order on a Saturday. I got a call on Sunday from John (wish I had gotten a last name), saying he found one rug, I told him I really needed two. John said he would try and find another one. In about 20-30 minutes John called me back and said he had found another one in one of the stores and they would ship in a few days. They arrived yesterday, color was more orange than the red I was looking for but will work. Thank you John for going above and beyond.
