I have been coming to this restaurant for years and this is my favorite in Gothenburg…read more I often choose the Dim sum combo which is composed of 5 dishes, each full of flavour. The chef has managed to find a fantastic harmony out of flavour I am not used to. My favorite is the spring roll from shiitake mushroom and many other herbs wrapped into a lettuce leaf, the mix of flavour is just breathtaking. As far as the rest goes the place is clean the atmosphere very good (somehow the decor matches very the menu but it's hard to explain). Overall I would recommend this place to anyone.

They also have seating downstairs…read more The tables are tiny and we had a hard time fitting all the dishes on one table including bottles and glasses. The food is so called Asian fusion - mix of Japanese, Korean and Chinese - but not the Chinese you know. Dumplings and Dim Sum - not fried shrimps, chicken or banana. It is very tasty, beautifully served and I would suggest ordering one of the sample menus for best experience. I find it a bit on the pricey side (250SEK for 9 pieces when having the sample dish) but if you are looking for a different Asian experience I would recommend you to go here. Friendly staff, but a bit inattentive. Save some in your glasses before asking for the bill. Remember to sharpen your chopstick skills! They accept AMEX.

This is THE best sushi place I have been to in Gothenburg hands down. It may not be the cheapest,…read morebut the sushi is delicious. I came in here with my boyfriend on a Saturday afternoon, and was surprised to see that it wasn't full. It's located right on on the water by the fish market, and I figured there would be more people there on a weekend. We weren't too hungry, so we each ordered one roll. I got the Salmon Roll, and he got the Rainbow Roll. Each roll was 100 sek. The presentation of the rolls was very cute. Each roll came with some seaweed salad, red onions in a sweet sauce, ginger, and wasabi. Each roll was drizzled in sauce. And the presentation in no way affected the taste of the sushi. Also, each meal comes with free miso soup. I'm not sure if this is during lunch hours, or all the time, but it definitely helped fill me up :) One thing I would like to note about this place is that the menu differs from many of the other sushi restaurants in Gothenburg. It isn't like the typical menu with 8-, 10-, 12-, or 15-piece order of assorted sushi pieces. It is more similar to an American sushi restaurant. Of course, there seems to be some Korean influence, and part of the menu (labeled "East Asia") is noodles, or bi bim bap (korean for fried rice or mixed rice i think). The other part of the menu of course is sashimi, sushi, and rolls. If you're American (like me), I would definitely recommend this place, because it is more like what we are used to back home. And we can be more picky with the rolls we get. ALSO WARNING TO WASABI HATERS: it seems that a lot of the rolls (at least, both of the ones we ordered) come with wasabi mayo in dollops on some of the pieces. I would recommend asking before ordering any rolls. Or at least asking them to make it without that sauce. :) You're welcome.

We called here later on a Friday around 7pm asking for a table, they said to come right in, and when we did they have a perfect patio table (with English menus!!) already waiting. We ordered the tasting menu with a bottle of red wine, and it was a perfectly cozy and delicious date night. The tasting menu starts with this spicy dip, followed by fresh nigiri cuts of sushi, and eventually some really tasty bao buns sandwiches, shrimp lettuce wraps, and what I think was a sauces grilled chicken. The kinds of food was a wide diversity but all done really well and with lots of rich flavors. The service was super friendly and fast. The ambiance is really cozy with an outdoor (covered and heated) patio and inside options, and the outdoor patio had candles and blankets.

The menu has clear signs of great care and finesse once you manage to get past the front of the house with its many opportunities. The service is not the highlight of Hello Monkey, nor was it high on my priority list. This is not a staff issue, they are attentive and know the menu. What missing is structure in the seating arrangement and the lighting can use some professional assistance. Having a conversation was next to impossible as the "Club" vibe sets in not too long as you are enjoying a dessert course of a three course meal. I found it fairly priced for a couple with drinks and experimental freedom in crossing multiple dishes from the menu. I am looking forward to a return visit to Hello Monkey, I will however suggest the first location on Magasinsgatan over Linnegatan. The overwhelming reason is environment and interior. I can imagine a great lunch at the second location, specially on a sunny day.

The bibimbap bowl which I was skeptical ordering from a restaurant called Mikado, but they literally had it backwards and upside down. I'm used to seeing the various veggies and shredded meat arranged on top of the rice. It was at the bottom of the bowl with the rice on top of it, a lot of chicken strip sized pieces covering the large portioned bowl and a raw egg on top. I supposed the egg was like the Japanese odonbori style dish where you mix the egg with the hot rice. The people working there were Asian, but not Japanese, I'd guess Chinese, dont know, but I dont think they know what bibimbap should be. The chicken was over sweet and salty... The rice was sticky in a bad way, because it was starchy and gluey tasting without the fluffy chewy quality of good sticky rice. The bowl was huge, so if you are really hungry, I suppose this is a good place to fill up. Most every place you can order it in Hawaii is hands down better. If you have access to real Korean food, save it and go to a Swedish restaurant instead or try a Swedish pizza.

For the food: The Bao with Tempeh was SO good. Would 100% recommend this if you're doing à la carte. The Jiaozi were lacking in flavor a little bit. They gave sauces to go with it, so we made good use of those, but it was a bit disappointing that without them they weren't the most tasty. The Shiitake Wontons were really enjoyable. The sauce they came in was SO good. Their Pac Choi in sweet garlic sauce was both of our favorites. The sauce was SO delicious, I found myself dipping other things in there even though I probably shouldn't have LOL. Would absolutely recommend. The Carrot & Daikon and Cucumber Salad were both really good albeit small, and the mushroom salad was alright (the pac choi sauce helped here). The service was really good, and the guy who helped us was really friendly and had a nice little conversation with us. The time between our baos and the rest of the food felt like a little while, but as soon as the food came I completely forgot about it. It also seemed like there was only one person in the kitchen so I wasn't mad about it. Interior-wise, it was pretty cute! They had some nice decorations and I would echo a previous review that the music was "funky," in a good way though! Would be back!
