I had low expectations about Japanese cuisine in Gothenberg but MMMM blew me away. This is by far the best bento box I've ever had! It was everything I could want. It had a fried option, a fresh option, a flavorful option - all around an amazing dish. The tempuras were all cooked perfectly - crispy and light. The sushi could have been fresher but again, amazing execution so I can't complain. I was shocked at the beef roulades. The most tender bites that melted in my mouth! Overall, absolutely delicious and despite getting lost on my way here, I'm so glad I found my way and stopped by. Do yourself a favor and get the Bento!

This place is a gem! We were hankering for something fresh, warm, and light nearby our stay in…read moreGöteborg, and the internet's promise of hot udon led us to Mikado. We eat a LOT of Japanese food in the States, and with that prior experience, here's what stands out: The portions are super generous. When our server brought the food, she mentioned she assumed we are sharing. We were expecting smaller, one person portions but the sashimi and udon in particular were huge. Both the sashimi and gyoza meals came with miso, salad, and rice, too. The sashimi was very generous with salmon, which is usually the fish we find ourselves wishing we had more of, so that was a nice surprise. The service goes out of the way to be child friendly. They surprised us with an extra, kiddo friendly salad on the house for our 4yo child, and at the end of the meal offered her a free scoop of ice cream. This was super kind and our daughter loved both! The flavors are fresh and unique. Even the salad was more interesting than typical for a meal set - a balance of slightly spicy and tart,,filled will a mix of greens, corn, edamame, several seaweeds, and cucumber. The gyoza came with a dipping sauce that seemed like it might contain Szechwan pepper - I felt like I noticed a few Chinese culinary influences in the seasoning and techniques - which worked really nicely. The seafood in the udon tasted incredibly fresh and perfectly cooked - some of the best I've had. We loved the gyoza too - the wrappers were tender and the fillings flavorful - everything seemed really well executed. The server mentioned this was Göteborg's oldest sushi restaurant - we can see why!

The bibimbap bowl which I was skeptical ordering from a restaurant called Mikado, but they literally had it backwards and upside down. I'm used to seeing the various veggies and shredded meat arranged on top of the rice. It was at the bottom of the bowl with the rice on top of it, a lot of chicken strip sized pieces covering the large portioned bowl and a raw egg on top. I supposed the egg was like the Japanese odonbori style dish where you mix the egg with the hot rice. The people working there were Asian, but not Japanese, I'd guess Chinese, dont know, but I dont think they know what bibimbap should be. The chicken was over sweet and salty... The rice was sticky in a bad way, because it was starchy and gluey tasting without the fluffy chewy quality of good sticky rice. The bowl was huge, so if you are really hungry, I suppose this is a good place to fill up. Most every place you can order it in Hawaii is hands down better. If you have access to real Korean food, save it and go to a Swedish restaurant instead or try a Swedish pizza.
