This time around, the food and service were again good, but the prices were outrageously expensive - $220 for 7 people. I get it... JB has has run the U.S. economy into the ground like a 737-800, but businesses (namely restaurants) are price gouging the hell out of customers like it's going out of style. This is Martinsville not St. Louis; there's no way to justify a $220 bill at any restaurant in town - Pretty irritating when I see businesses take advantage of customers, hence the 3 stars. read more

The chicken hibachi was flavorful. Plenty of veggies as well as chicken cooked perfectly. Fried rice was well seasoned. Needed a bit more egg and things like peas and carrots to be considered fried rice. Person that brought out the to go order was friendly. I recommend the ginger sauce. read more

I found what appears to be some kind of paper product in my food. When this was brought to the attention of waitstaff, management responded by offering 10% off of entree and stating that they would not make it over since the plate was more than half gone before foreign object was discovered. So, I ordered on sushi Thursday at 430p, when they reopen for dinner. I'm immunosuppressed, so I don't eat inside restaurants. So, I ordered online. My order was confirmed at 445p. I received my order at 550p. They had allowed all my hot food to sit for the entire time, claiming they were waiting on sushi. But meanwhile... The hot food got cold. The steak ended up rubbery, not to even start on the shrimp. Ever had cooked shrimp that you've allowed to go cold? My gyoza was so cold that they remade it for me. My soup was so cold that they gave me new. All in all... I didn't get to eat for two hours after the order. Also, my fiancée wouldn't even have his remade because who knows how long that would take? And here's the kicker, you can tell which sushi roll was made first, because they were allowed to get actually warm. So, now I have Luke warm food that was supposed to be hot and Luke warm food that was supposed to be cold and it's falling apart. Additionally, my spider roll, the shrimp inside, that was fried, wasn't even peeled. So it was inedible. I paid $60 for $5 gyoza and some soup. This is absolutely absurd. If you can't do take out right, don't do it. $60 just gone. Just sad. Really sad. Two hours of my life for a poor meal I paid a fortune for. read more

This place was terrible. We went on a Tuesday night at 5:00, sat until 5:40 when someone finally took our order. There were only 1 other person there at the table. We ordered alcohol drinks and had to go to the bartender to get them because they never were even made. It was poor service. The guy who waited on us wasn't even in a hurry, didn't once come back after they made our food, we had to get up and go to the front for our ticket. It was piss poor service and we will NOT be back. The food was decent, but not worth it. Also, it was disgusting, like they had never cleaned the place before. I'm surprised they aren't shut down by the health inspector because it was that bad. Sometimes a chef will cover unagi with a lot of sauce if the eel is old. This was the case for the unagi that we ordered on my one trip here. I eat sushi on a regular basis and this was inedible. We are a long ways from the ocean and it is raw seafood. It happens. I get it. But this bad review is given because when I brought this to the attention of the staff and returned our entire three portions to them, they only gave us two dollars off the bill. The rice was hard and crunchy and tasted like it had been cooked in old grease. The steak was cooked fresh but tasted old. The vegetables weren't cooked thoroughly and your feet stick to the greasy carpet when you walk in. The only reason for 1 star is because the employee's were very nice. read more

First word that comes to mind.. SCARY.. as in I'll probably get food poisoning later! Went to get hibachi with the fam and called ahead of time for a reservation. We showed up promptly. (still waited 10 min for a table) Walking in the restaurant we all looked at each other like "Oh shit, what have we gotten ourselves into?" Half of us wanted to leave before we were even seated. This place was very outdated, run down, and without a doubt un clean. First thing that caught my eye was the hanging drinking glasses above the bar. It had an inch thick of dust on the rack they were hanging on. After that observation I then decided I would order a bottled beer to be safe. We were seated at the hibachi table and it was caked with grease and food remnants. The couple across from us persisted to staff for it to be cleaned before cooked on. The dumpster out back would have been cleaner to cook on. The full table of three separate parties stated their concerns about the restaurant before drinks were even served. But for some reason we all stuck it out. Fast forward through the weird show the "chef" put on.. let's talk about CROSS CONTAMINATION! With everyone's order it consisted of a variety of proteins (shrimp, beef, chicken) the chef put all meats on the grill next to each other..touching one another. Yes. Raw chicken between the shrimp and beef. After putting the raw meat on the grill he used the same spatula to scoop the cooked rice and veggies on to everyone's plate. Oof! I ordered medium rare filet mignon & it was cooked well done. Honestly not even sure if it was a filet considering it came out to the table pre cut.. big no for me. Very hesitant to even eat any of the food after the whole experience, I only ate a couple bites. I promise I'm not self righteous! Yamato is the pearl of the orient of the us south. The food and atmosphere is unbelievable. As an Asian brother of Asian descent I must say this was a delightful culinary experience. I was in town from DC visiting my family and we went here to celebrate my sister in laws birthday. The wait was only 5 min and we were taken right back to our table on a Saturday night. First came the soup, I'm used to eating at these kind of places so I got 2 soups instead of salad because most other places put a peanut dressing on the salad but not here you get your choice of dressing. The soup was good, a little salty but good. I ordered the chicken and shrimp both of which were great at tastes and quality. I think the prices here are a good deal. My plate cost about $15 and in DC it's $30 for the same plate and I actually like the flavor here better. I will be going back when in town. read more

This restaurant gets more disappointing every time we go. The chairs have been needing to be replaced for over a year now and they are a law suit waiting to happen. The bathrooms always, without fail, smell like dirty mop water has been used to clean them. The bar tender is the most despicable thing about this place. I hope the owner reads this review and realizes how much money he could make by replacing his employee who calls himself a "bar tender". Not only are his hands filthy, but the way he and his buddy (who is at the bar every night) look at women coming into the restaurant, makes it very uncomfortable for the patrons. We have witnessed this lazy man let others go behind his bar to get their own drinks. NOT GOOD!! Very disappointing. The sushi tasted off- it just wasn't very good. I was also the only customer there (at 5:30) and yet no one ever came to check on me- there were a few employees nearby socializing and when I ran out of water I had to leave my table and go up and ask my waitress for more. I only gave is rate of one star because I had to give something. This restaurant is disgusting the floor, food, and bathroom. My appetizer arrived with a hair in it and when the chef arrived he reached down to straighten out a filthy rug on the floor under him and was then going to cook immediately. This was my first time dining as a vegan, so I ordered two relatively simple vegetable rolls: the avocado and sweet potato/yam tempura roll, thinking it should be same as any other sushi restaurant. I was wrong because they weren't very yummy. My friends enjoyed their hibachi lunches, but I was sad to see the vegetables cooked in butter, so definitely ask for no butter if you're vegan and ordering the vegetable hibachi. With Chopstix possibly providing better sushi in town, I see no real reason to return. read more

The food here was delicious! And there was lots of it!! Noodles are served with the hibachi meals on Monday and Tuesday nights (in addition to the rice, soup, salad and even 2 appetizer shrimp)! Was in town for business and wasn't impressed with the dining choices in the area. Someone suggested this place. Wasn't expecting much, especially once I saw it was in a strip mall in a Walmart parking lot. I definitely underestimated this place. Much bigger on the inside that it looks, and the mood/lighting was wonderful. Server was great suggested some of her favorite items (Dynamite roll), which was excellent! The staff at yamotos is the worst I have ever had the displeasure of being served by. They are extremely rude and act like you're torturing them by asking for anything like a refill or more sauce. Just horrible. The girl at the front register is the worst of all. I have called previously for a take out order which ended up with her hanging up on me. The food is mediocre. The rice is kept for days and not make freshly everyday. Do not go to this restaurant. Update Aug 2017: There is a new boy hire at the front register who is great! Very friendly and respectful.
